Ok, tried it with the family's Sky router (Which is a DG834GT with custom firmware) and it worked fine on that as well.

Next suggestion is to try it on WPA1 rather than 2. I know the DG834GT is set to WPA 1 and works fine.
haven't bothered updating my dg834G to support wpa2 as it works fine as it is.

Oh, and 802.11n hasn't been out at all. it's just each manufacturers own implementation of how they think it should work. but i think someone else already said that....

check which version of TCPMP you are using. bear in mind that TCPMP has not been updated in over a year.

I think Mr Vanx at XDA-devs found a version that worked well with the pro, but the next update of coreplayer should be pretty good, once they've had a chance to test and update it for the diamond and the pro.

This is normal. If the file is open by another application, it will not automatically sync.

No (unless you have one of the hooky ROMs installed, in which case, Yes. It has been activated.

Don't Know. Have a look at www.tm-phonedownloads.com for the UK updates. The Ameo is in the 'Other' section.

depends. What price can you get the Pro for??

I can't believe this problem hasn't been address yet...or has it?

have you ever bothered to check the settings for the calendar??
Hmmm.....?

start>calendar>menu>tools>options>appointments
change the default reminder time!
Alternatively, once you have created the all day event, go into it and change the reminder time.
it's been like since wm5 aku2 at least.

I can't believe you've been complaining about this for three years without figuring this out....or did you?

P.S. Yes, I'm in a bad mood. It's nothing personal.

I notice it is the DG834N

Have tested it with my DG834G and it works flawlessly.
What speed do you have the router set to operate at?

The Touch Pro does not support any sort of N mode, or any sort of turbo mode that Netgear are partial to putting in their routers.
have you manually set any minimum speed?
have you got the latest firmware on the router?

Basically, make sure that any turbo mode is turned off, and the speed is set to b/g and see if that works.

It's on it's way, but HTC support say that they don't know when at the moment. seems no-ones told them any dates yet...... dry.gif

Oh, and most diamonds (yes even european ones) have the 1.93 update on the e-club now. They haven't bothered adding a new update notice, they've just replaced the file. So if you download it it turns out ot be the 1.93, NOT the 1.37 that was there before.

WWE, French, Danish, Swedish, German, Italian, Dutch are already there
(don't ask, i have to deal with loads of them for a living.....)

No SD card slot that I am aware of.

4GB storage internal, so i think they decided to do away with it.
Raphael is to have a microSDHC slot i believe.

seems to work well on my Ameo, although opera doesn't seem to like it. Open it in Internet Explorer and away I go.

Can't say I'm blown away by it, but it's free and i might as well give it a go while i live in an HSDPA area!

yeah, the SIM is reachable through a little slot on the side. Should be fine to pop it into there.

Out of interest Paul, what make of laptop did you plug it into?

it is indeed a sweet little bit of kit.

It's actually a huawei E220, tha same as 3 Ireland sell.

Just know that you take a chance on it working if you happen to have a Compaq laptop.
So far we've been overun by calls on this thing at work...seems on the compaqs, it appears as a mass storage device and then a few seconds later it disappears again.

been playing with the 3 Ireland one at work and it seems to be nice and quick!

i found that if you hold the battery cover out of the way, and press down hard on the edge of the SIM with your thumb and then flick, it comes out quite easily.

it was at default settings on the athena (3mp, fine quality, auto white balance) under dodgy flourescent lighting.
the quality can be turned up to super fine, but it think that just means less jpeg compression once the picture is taken.

No doubt coolcamera will make it even better.

It is by far the best camera in an HTC device so far!

first off, turn the aqdvanced network stuff in USB to PC OFF!! this sets the connection back to serial over USB and solves crap loads of firewall and AV problems.

If you do leave it turned on, check the following.

You said that the S710 shows in device manager as a Windows Mobile Device #5. That's good. it means that the drivers have installed and the computer can see the handset.

Next check in network connections. You should see a new LAN connection called Local Area Connection #2/3/4/whatever. This is the connection used by Activesync.
Look at the properties for this connection.
You should see three protocols ticked on the general tab:
Client for microsoft networks
file and printer sharing
Internet protocol (TCP/IP)

If they are not ticked, then tick them.
Once you have doen this, highlight the Internet Protocol and hit the properties button.
Make sure that all settings are set to Automatic or Server assigned and then click OK a few timesand close the control panel
re-connect the S710

if they were already set to that, then the drivers and the connection are fine, but something is blocking the connection to Activesync. Then we get into the firewall area of things.

You say that the windows firewall has the ports open. Open the firewall and make sure that the box marked 'Do not allow exceptions' is not ticked. this will block activesync, even if you program the ports on the exceptions page.

Personally from work, it seems that turning the advanced network functions off tends to cut down the number of problems immensely.

you would need a registry editor to do this. Search the forums for a reg editor like resco and install it to your device.
Then follow the instructioons for how to add the details you need.

I know of no way to shorten the Vibrate time. 5 seconds is a little long!

Map 4 PDA defaults to the centre of San Francisco when it hasn't got a fix.
Press Menu and then GPS
Tap Search GPS and when that finishes, tap Start GPS.
menu location will tell you when you have a good fix when the long/latt appears at the top.

Then tap menu map and you'll see it zooming in to where you are.

TomTom is good i agree, but i wouldn't say it is the best. Going up to a business meeting it told us to bear right, when actually it meant take this slip road, go round the roundabout and turn onto the fourth exit. Co Pilot is not as easy to use but it seems to pick up a bit quicker. And besides, TomTom isn't exactly quick in Landscape VGA....

depends what you want the GPS for. If it is for fully fledged Driving and sat nav for directions, tomtom 6 works fine, and is certainly cheaper than tomtom5 used to be.

Co-pilot theoretically should work fine.
Map4PDA seems to be working fine on mine, although Google maps doesn't.
I should imagine the others like route 66, destinator and Navigon etc should work fine. Although I have heard that there may be problems with I-go.

for stuff like orienteering and geocahcing (maybe this thing is a little large for taking on that sort of trip) Fugawi and ozi should be ok i suppose.

I personally use tomtom and Map4PDA and both works superbly. Although tomtom is horrendously slow to pick up a fix, whereas Map4PDA picks up in under 30 seconds.

Map4PDA is free by the way.

the key quote in there is "to carriers around the world...." first paragraph, third line. As blackberry conect is usually locked down to the network in question, it is usually added only at the request of network operators, and if you have an unbranded version of the device, the network should provide you with a copy of the software so that you can use their service.

Being that Orange still seem to regard Blackberry as mainly a business service and seem ridiculously reluctant to offer it to anyone on a consumer contract, i should imagine they will only offer it on business devices or likely not at all....seems a bit daft to me really, but then they also like to charge for MS push mail as well!!

TomTom works great. If you want to test the GPS, Map4PDA works great. GPS port is com 5.

it is indeed a sirf star III chip inside so the accuracy and pick up speed is great. When I stick it in the window of the big metal cube i work in, it picks up in around 20 seconds!

Not tried using it to my head yet, cos I have access to an HTC S100 at work and have been using it with that so far, which works great apart from the normal Windows Mobile bug of having to set it to hands free every time you turn it on. The HTC S100 is based on the itech r35 clip so lasts most of two days on standby and use for phone calls between charges, but you do still get a bit of distortion on the high frequencies same as on all devices with that damn microsoft bluetooth stack on them.

It comes with opera already installed so no need to worry about that.

Battery life so far is not so good, it runs from full to flat in around 3 hours, but then it is a new toy and has spent the day going around the office as everyone wants to see it. And besides, any PDA will go in around 3-4 hours if you are sat there using a2dp, wifi and using it constantly! even my Orbit only lasts 3 hours 40 when i use it real hard! If you're using a device hard enough to drain a hermes in 7 hours this wont give you any improvement I imagine. I'll find out what it is really like once the novelty has worn off after a day or two.
When charging, the USB port can charge it fine, but if you are using it hard while plugged into a USB port, it is just about enough to stop the charge going down. You really do need to charge this beast on an AC charger.

on the upside the screen is a beautiful thing to see, the sound is pretty good, and i have not noticed the bass problem present on the Trinity.
the reaction of anyone in the area that is into gadgets, and even that of many who are not is sheer wonder at what it can do.

No problems so far with the microdrive which seems to be stonkingly fast, especially with WM5torage installed so it shows as a USB hard drive on your PC. 500 meg file transferred in about 60 seconds. Obviously you dont want to be dropping this thing as apart from any other damage you might do, it will really screw the microdrive up.

The G sensor is undeniably kitsch when used for vueflo in the browser, but still it makes me laugh and the peeps in the office seem to be transfixed when I turn it on.

Overall this may not be the perfect PDA/Phone combo, but there is nowt on the market this powerful, this beautiful (a personal choice i grant you) or quite so cool IMHO. I think I'm in love!

I have 5 more days to decide whether or not to send it back, but i can see me putting this thing in a jacket pocket and wearing a bluetooth headset round my neck all the time!

oh, and it does have a 3.5 mm jack on it so in go my sony headphones whe using it for music!

I very much doubt that they would take the GPS out. In fact, according to the training material and manual, it mentions both Wi-Fi and the GPS module. But mine should be arriving Tuesday morning. I can confirm then whether it has it or not.

Give it a few days and i bet it appears on the TM UK site for sale with co-pilot software for a premium.

All very silly I know, but i was bored and in the mood to make it as annoying as i possibly could and figured it out with my mate at work.

HKLM\Software\HTC\SlidingSound

Here you see the standard 3 sounds as 3 folders, 0, 1 and 2
Either edit the contents of these or create a new folder.
I created a new key called 3
In here, three string values were created,
(default) which defines the name of the sound
in - sets the sound when the keyboards closes
out - sets the sounds when the keyboard opens.

For instance, in the key 3 i have
(Default) set as a string value of Dogbark
in set as a string value of dogbark.wav
out set as a string value of dogbark.wav

Now I can select the dogbark as the keyboard sliding sound.

Sound files need to be in the Windows Folder in wav format.

Right now, Mine is barking. Gonna see what I can find to change it to later.

Not a great deal of differece that i have ever noticed, except for programs that load at startup, like today screen plugins.

When the phone boots, the card is not accessed until a second or two later when the drivers activate, and so this can slow down the boot times a tad, but other than that, I have never noticed a difference.
