My psychic prediction: it'll never happen wink.gif

QUOTE(shootydogthing @ Aug 16 2008, 11:15) *
Not sure if this is the place for it, but... I've got a thought. The solution to one of Windows Mobile's biggest problems.

ROM updates are great and add many features, but are often hard to locate. However, AppToDate provides over the air flashing. I believe we should push to have HTC and other makers, and even Microsoft themselves, put AppToDate into EVERY ROM, either set up to check for ROM update's weekly or something or you could sign up for an email with each new one.
This would mean that updates were sent easily and with minimum fuss, and available in one place.

And, since every phone would have it on, many more developers would be likely to support it. It would quite possibly become a standard for Windows Mobile software.

In the long run, perhaps it would be possible to create something similar to the app store, but that's not as important.

I'm sure Paul would be perfectly happy having AppToDate used like this. I think we should work to try and make it a standard part of Windows Mobile

No... the iPhone is a great device and for the user who wants one, it's pretty much a no-brainer that a HTC Touch Cruise would >not< be an acceptable substitute... While I am enjoying mine, I can't see it swaying a potential iPhone purchaser.

QUOTE(Cal472 @ Jul 25 2008, 07:33) *
Do you think this could be giving the iPhone a run for its money?... Its more customisable, large storage capability etc...

Strange... mine loads quickly, much more quickly than it did on my HTC Touch. Maybe it's something to do with the O2 ROM as opposed to the HTC branded one?

I've noticed the difference in responsiveness and accuracy with this screen as well. I've tried the reg-hack mentioned here, but it made no difference. My regular Touch is better when it comes to using the HTC keyboard. On the Cruise, there are a lot more typos, the wrong key gets registered surprisingly often. I've recalibrated numerous times, so that's not it. I've noticed this screen has a bunch of 'dots' if you hold it sideways, so it's using something different -- or something I just can't see on my plain Touch. I've also noticed the Cruise screen has a slight light brownish tint to it, which I'm assuming has something to do with it being a 'anti-glare' screen. Viewing it at an angle greatly diminishes the tint. I inquired with HTC support, they told me to do a hard-reset, the general keep-busy response.

I've only had mine a couple weeks and am hoping it just needs a breaking-in period...

There is an update available from T-Mobile (US) but it isn't a 6.1 upgrade. Are you referring to a cooked-ROM or something?

Not sure why the 'Free and Fun' caption now appears, separately from 'Up to Date'. If something appears under F&F, does that mean it's an older version? Google Maps appeared under the new heading the first time I ran AppToDate, so I updateded it. The version installed is a newer build, however, Google Maps still appears under the 'Free and Fun' heading.

It's a bit confusing -- ideally, there would be just 2 headings -- one for Up to Date and another for New Version Available. Maybe I'm missing something, but what's the purpose for this new heading?

Must be a hobby of yours, as that would be the only reason to pursue this product. Even in it's day, support and development was inconsistent -- and that's putting it politely wink.gif

MobilePlanet.com (Expansys) carries the HTC Touch protectors for a lot less than the price you mentioned -- even less if you get the 5-pak. Kind of a pain to get on, but once in place they're an >exact< fit...

Ive just had my display screen replaced and need to buy a new screen protector. I was really pleased with the original one that came with the phone but these are £15 each (inc. posting) via HTC. Could anyone recommend a cheaper alterative of a similar quality ?

IMO -- Sprite Backup isn't that great. Have purchased it and tried to use it several times. By the name, you'd think you could just backup the device completely, and restore it as it was when you backed it up. Turns out not to be the case -- it backs up some stuff, but not all and you need a bit of luck if you want to restore what did supposedly back up. Sprite Backup involves a lot of time and frustration, and doesn't always work. Unfortunately, I know of no other solution sad.gif

I tried it, lots of issues. The product is still available, though not actively supported by the author.

I like this one, no errors, looks great -- large touchable buttons: Spb Time

This is a nice basic one that also works well and without errors: pTravel Alarm

And then this one, pretty good -- no errors, but I prefer the other 2: Gentimer

QUOTE(gianmarco79 @ Jul 16 2007, 01:17) *
Ok so nobody uses this app on the Touch ?

What alarm software do you use then ?

Thanks

I have this one: Proporta Case & Windshield Mount

It's a great leather case, with leather 'brackets' on the left & right that hold the Touch securely in place and let you keep the flat-screen functionality of your device intact. What I mean is there isn't leather framing the screen, creating a ridge that detracts from the 'touchfullness' of the screen. There's a magnet inside the layers of leather in the back that grabs on to the magnet of the matching Proporta windshield mount. Strong magnet, my Touch stays in place even over a stretch of cobblestone.

Both are reasonably priced, and the case is great...

Just a FYI in case you haven't run into it already... I tried a progam called 'Slide-to-UnLock' or something similarly named -- S2U maybe? It's a screensaver type program that gives you a slider screen button to unlock the phone. It also has a setting that blacks out the screen once a call connects, incoming or outgoing. A tap of the power button on my Touch would turn the screen on if needed during a call. It worked great, but would be better if there was a utility that did just that, and no other 'overhead'... Anyone run into something like this yet?

The larger 'E', which means that EDGE is available whether you're currently connected with it or not, is the one they removed. The little 'E' that is combined with the signal bars is what remains now, showing just when you're EDGE-connected.

I gave up on my Touch. pTravel Alarm on the other hand looks and works quite well on the Touch, and gives you a status icon on the Today screen. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of CityTime -- but sometimes less is more...

QUOTE(kromega @ Feb 6 2008, 00:15) *
Hi,
Was there any update on the cityalarm.exe error notification ? I just installed the appli, it's great asisde of that issue.

On my Touch, that usually start when I connect to ActiveSync, and when I reboot subsequently.
Appli is on main memory, so message looks /program files/...

Thks

It's no different for the Shadow than any other WM device. T-Mobile has for a while now been working at implementing stronger enforcement of subscription service levels. Some users can still jury-rig their devices to get full access at T-Zone pricing, some can't. Seems to vary by region, and to some extent by device. i.e. -- your luck might be better with an unbranded HTC ROM than it would with a T-Mobile one. It'll either work or not -- good luck!

Thank Y ou.

That's what happens when you stream via EDGE -- not an issue if you're streaming with WiFi. No way around it sad.gif

QUOTE(SWEET GT @ Feb 3 2008, 19:47) *
I was streaming a local radio station..and noticed that when I stopped the stream, a few alerts/voice mails came in.

So I did some testing and called my phone while streaming audio, and my phone never rings, after 2 rings it goes straight to voice mail.

Is there anyway around this? I dont want to miss calls while streaming audio. Im not sure if the call doesnt come through because of bandwidth issues or what..but was rather suprised when I tested and noticed it never ringing.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Any solutions?

You probably found this out, but if you haven't: The PPC and Smartphone versions of CoPilot are both on the DVD and the MicroSD card, you can either opt to install them from your PC or just copy the CAB files over and run them. After you install on the PC, the CAB files are all there as well, in the CoPilot directory.

Your serial number will work on both PPC and Smartphone versions, however, only 1 at a time. Prior to activating on your new device, you must first navigate to the lisencing screen and deactivate on your old device. It's covered in the documentation if you have additional questions.

I discovered this when I ditched my Shadow in favor of the Touch and wanted CoPilot on it...

I have a Touch Cruise on pre-order and have just read that as shipped, the device won't work with T-Mobile USA's 3G service once it's implemented, something about it working on a 1700 band as opposed to 1900 or 2100...? Is this something that could be changed at some point via a firmware upgrade? Thanks
