'H' is displayed when you have an HSDPA connection. This is good.

Also getting this problem using smtp.gmail.com (tried other smtp servers aswell) as you said removing and recreating account fixes it but obviously not an ideal solution, anyone got any better work around / reg fixes?

Must admit, I have not had this problem for several weeks now.

I have set my Vario III up to sync with my home PC (Vista Ultimate, WMDC) and my work PC (XP PRO SP2, ActiveSync 4.5). It will sync fine to both separately, but will always give me the dreaded "ActiveSync has encountered an error on the desktop" when syncing to one after syncing to the other. If I delete the partnership and re-sync, it works, but then it will fail on the other PC and I have to delete and re-sync again. This is a pain.

Has anyone had the same problem and found a solution?

Thanks!

My WM6.1 (TLR ROM) Vario III updated automatically, but my wife's WM6.0 (Black Majik ROM) Vario II did not. Is there actually an option for enabling automatic updating (like in Windows)? I couldn't find one in the Settings.

I've been running this ROM for a few weeks now with no major problems. The only issue I have (and may not be ROM related), is that about once a week, my e-mail account fails to send e-mail (I'm using smtp.t-email.co.uk as my outgoing server). A soft-reset will not fix it, but deleting the account and re-adding it (with exactly the same settings!), fixes it.

Anyone else noticed this? Explanation? It's a bit of a pain.

Maybe because on a screen the size of the Kaiser, the Remote Desktop is just too small to be of any use?

It was just about workable on the Universal, but I haven't ever felt the need to try it on the Kaiser.
It worked for me... i think you have to say initially that your email address is at something other than Gmail, set it up with Gmail's IMAP servers, then go back after that's done and set the email address back to what it should be.

I don't use Skype, but Outlook in TLR 6.1 ROM works fine with IMAP.
  1. Tools->New Account...
  2. Enter your e-mail address and password->Next
  3. Uncheck 'Try to get e-mail setting automatically from the Internet'->Next
  4. Your e-mail provider: Select 'Internet e-mail'->Next
  5. Enter account details as usual etc.

Care to "hook a brother up" as they say? Or is this a "usual places" job?

You can get it from Jasjamming's wmblack page. It's one of the "enchantments" cabs.

I have my e-mail set to download messages every 5 minutes. Before I flashed to WM 6.1, this would occur even if the phone was on standby (i.e. screen off). Now it only happens if the phone is "on". Is there a setting or registry entry to turn this feature back on? Thanks!

I've got it to work by deleting the account from Pocket Outlook and re-adding it. I'm using an IMAP incoming server, and the only difference this time is I have not set it up to sync to my Sent Mail folder. I wonder if that is what was confusing it?

Yes, if I'm connected via WiFi. However, T-Mobile will only allow relaying via their own SMTP server over the network.

My Vario III is currently failing to send e-mail. I have set my account up to use the T-Mobile SMTP server (smtp.t-email.co.uk) in a configuration that has always worked before. In fact, it was working earlier this week, which is why I am wondering if it might be a network issue. Anyone else using this setup had any problems?

I am running The Lone Ranger's WM 6.1 ROM.

Thanks!

I've just flashed my Vario III. The process was straightforward and no problems so far. I haven't installed any of the optional CABs, but I've copied to my Storage Card, so I will try them tonight.

I'll post any issues or observations. Thanks, TLR!

I'm writing a Windows mobile app to do just this. My plan is to use polynomial curve-fitting to determine the time at the speed to be measured. My app will also measure other acceleration increments and lap-times.

hello phil uk,

you seem to be an expert in programs for ppc.... i was just wondering if you are able to edit and add a feature for the camera to tag pictures with gps position after a picture has been taken directly to exif files?
I just miss this feature from my old hw6915 wherein everytime that iam on holiday and away all i need to do is take a snap of a particular points of interest and it automatically turns on the gps and tag the position where the photos was taken.. so when i get home all i need to do is upload those picture directly to LOCR and presto photos with positions.

thanks,

dennis

A tenner? It appears to be £25.95:

That's the one, isn't it? I've ordered one anyway; should arrive today.

I use an HTC RC-W100 remote. I specifically chose the model of Shures I bought to ensure they had the split cable so I wouldn't end up with 2m of wire hanging around my knees. It works a treat.

That looks like the perfect solution, as it means you keep a mic too. I'd not seen the RC-W100 before. Just ordered one and a set of Shure SE210s.

Thanks!

The price isn't that bad when you consider the fact that a Kaiser contract-free costs £470.

I downloaded the user manual and i am a little confused by "SnapVUE". It looks like Windows Mobile. Are HTC running a WM emulator inside Vista? Why?

How are you guys connecting your Shures to your Kaiser? Are you using an adaptor, or have you doctored the cable?

I have the HTC ExtUSB to 3.5m phono + USB adaptor, but i still find it a bit bulky. I'm tempted to buy some Shures and adapt the cable with the ExtUSB connector from one of my sets of HTC 'phones.

CAB files are (usually) native Windows Mobile installers (i.e. you run it on your device, not on your PC). Copy the CAB file to somewhere on your device (I recommend the StorageCard). Then, on your device, navigate to the CAB file using File Explorer and tap it. That's it. Follow the prompts and it will install on your device. Once installed, you don't need the CAB file anymore (except to reinstall) so you can delete it.

I currently use IMAP from my regular ISP. I have my Vario III set to check my mailbox every 5 minutes, so I am notified of e-mails very quickly. I've considered moving to a hosted exchange service, but I'm wondering if it is really worth it. What would I gain?

As I understand it:

Kaiser is HTC model name. TyTN II is HTC-branded version. Vario III is T-Mobile-branded version.

As far as accessories are concerned, they are all the same.

Can I ask why you have to do this? I just turn my BT headset on and it starts working.... no settings change necessary

That's a good question, actually. For automatic connection, the connection has to be initiated from the handsfree device. My previous handset (Hermes/Vario II) would not respond to connection requests from my BT handsfree (actually a Pioneer BT-enabled stereo), so I had to initiate the connection from the Vario II instead. This worked, but meant that I had to manually make the connection every time, which was a pain.

I have connected my Vario III using the same method, so have the same problem. I never thought to try the initiating the connection from the stereo, but I will tonight.

The D-pad still doesn't work on the Bluetooth settings page though! tongue.gif

In most apps, holding the centre of the d-pad has the same effect as tapping and holding with the stylus. However, this doesn't work in the Bluetooth settings app where tap-and-hold on a paired device should bring up the context menu.

This is particularly annoying for me as when I want to connect to my BT handsfree kit, I have to tap-and-hold the device in the list when it would be much easier to hold the d-pad.

Does anyone have a solution to this? Cheers.

Still on this bugger.
So I can use my normal POP3 account for incoming mail and the t-mobile SMTP for sending? Simply cannot get this to work at all. Will try deleting the account completely and trying again.

The t-mobile SMTP server works for me when I am connected via 3G/GPRS, but not when I am on WiFi. So, I have set up two accounts, e.g.: "email" and "email WiFi". Which highlights an old annoyance of Windows Mobile whiche is still a problem in WM6: you can't move e-mails between accounts. Why?
