I put together a post a while back at xda-developers that summarizes how to remove/modify the forced device lock, I think it may be what you all are looking for...

QUOTE(JohnnyG_69 @ Jun 7 2007, 08:58) *
Hey there Paul,

I confirmed the problem is that Mobile Office is installed in the \Windows\ directory on WM6, however the installer that's being used for WM5 puts it in \Program Files\Office6\.

One solution is to change the installer being used for WM5 to put Mobile Office in the \Windows\ directory. I've tested this, and NewDoc will work then.

The other solution (which I'd prefer) is to leave Mobile Office where it installs on WM5, and change NewDoc to point there for launching Word and Excel.

I would be more than happy to modify NewDoc to work with the WM5 install if you'd be willing to share your source code with me.

Thanks Paul biggrin.gif

The reason it's now working on a WM5 device is the way the DoNew app is launching the apps, the code looks like this:

Process.Start("pxl.exe", path)

So in other words, the Office Mobile executables must be in the \Windows folder to work, this is probably because WM6 has the Office Mobile apps installed in the ROM, so on a WM5 device it'll consume precious system RAM versus the preferred method of running off the Storage Card.

I have been trying to find a way in Windows Mobile to set the Environment %PATH% variable like you can in regular Windows. If you could figure out a way to get the \Storage Card\Program Files\Office6 into the system path variable then theoretically the launcher should work.

I just cleaned out my phone over the weekend (coffee spill). Cleaned out the dust while I was getting all the goo out. There is a pretty detailed guid on coolsmartphone: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php?op...rtid=4&Itemid=3

One note: when prying open the case through the SIM card slot, just pry up enough to slip a credit card into the seam on the outside, then slide the card around the outside edge, it'll snap right open without any breakage!

2nd note: use a camera lens cleaning cloth (~$1 at any local camera shop), this will prevent smudging the anti-glare coating on the screen, and the introduction of more dust (lint).

Good luck!

I am using the T-Mobile "Free Unlimited T-Zones" plan which costs $0.00 with my SAP. works great (still no messenger, but Agile works fine.)

I had the Unlimited T-Zones for $9.99, which I switched down to the free one last week, I have noticed no difference in speed, or connectivity.

I don't think there is much need for the $20 internet plan when using the SPV since there is no VPN connectivity from the Smartphone OS.

If you insist on the Unlimited Internet plan, check out the Howard Forums for the T-mobile GPRS settings.

This appears to be very misleading. Yes, it's a free download, but you cannot actually use the software without registering. And in order to register, you must purchase their software/service. Yet, there is no apparent way to purchase this service. After some digging I found an item on mobileplanet.com for PocketPC that is a 2 year service plan for Smart Traffic at $89.99!! Great, what if the service sucks the first time I use it? A Trial would sure be nice.
