Sounds like you got a faulty/incorrect one.

I have one which also has a microphone call button and mini usb socket for charging which works perfectly when plugged into an external amplifer.

I've been using this script for a while now. The core file works by setting Cradled value to zero every minute. When nothing is cradled, no synchronization takes place.

For info purposes, this TechNet article is a good start for the simple desktop solution that I'm working on which automatically disables 5-minute sync feature once a WM5 or WM6 device is connected via the USB cable. No more manual changing of registry value.

The script helps a lot, but I still get the sync on initial connect, which means waiting until its finished before copying stuff to my phone. I am still looking for a manual sync solution.

I started to take a look at the registry on the windows PC.

By setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]

"GuestOnly"=dword:00000001 I can get it to not prompt for a guest partnership when connecting my device.

Then if I remove the Partners key - Leaving only the one for Guest.

I can connect my device as a Guest allowing me to transfer files and music as a "Guest"

The if I restore the registry key for my partnership, it will sync with outlook again.

Next step is to write a small program to change the registry settings between the two options, which will then give a guest - no sync connection or the normal partnership with the sync enabled.

Hmm.. changing the registry everty time I connect the phone is not really all that practical.

Its about time microsoft put back in the manual sync feature. What ever posessed them to criple the application by removing manual sync - why would anyone want to have their device synced every 5 minutes?

The major problem is if I want to copy a large number of files to the device (podcasts, music etc) then the outlook sync starts up whilst the file transfer is in progress - slowing down the transfer, usually the device times out and disconnects. so I have to re-connect and start all over again.

Why not go to "clocks and alarms" and select Visiting and set that correctly for local time where you are. The base time of the phone remains UK so no problem with active sync.

I have no experience of this I am just assuming that is what that function is for.

Visiting? where do you find that option? I only Have Option 1 Date and Time and Option 2 Alarm

Damn I always miss out
As an aside you can still get them from the states for $67 and delivery to the UK is only $24

total price if ordered from the US website is $92.90 so only £11 more than Paul was quoting last night

I just ordered one from expansys.nl for 39 pounds (49.95 euro + 12 euro P+P) - So did a colleague of mine also!

When I first got my S710 last year it started suffering from the re-boot loop.

Removing my SD card allowed it to boot normally.

If I ensured that nothing on the homescreen accessed the SD card - plugins and the MRU list - and that nothing accessing the SD card was in the startup folder then it would boot without having to remove the SD card.

This meant I had to change the homescreen (to say windows simple) before any reboot, and if my phone crashed crashed I was having to remove the sd card, reboot, change the home screen, put bach the sd-card and reboot again (otherwise the sd card appeared as sd card 2 and confused smart tool kit which I was running) and change the homescreen back.

However since updating the rom to the latest release from HTC, I have not suffered with this problem again.

I tried it on some of my DVD's. Some caused the program to crash, some did not record the video correctly and some worked really well, good quality video, audio ok. It just depended on the DVD I was ripping.

However I have managed to get a few good videos to watch on my HTC S710, and they play perfectly.

OK I guess for a free application, but it wastes a lot of time trying to find DVD's that will copy correctly.

At the start of this month I noticed that I was not getting any more points from Navizon when running CamaraAware or the Navizon App.

I was suprised that I was not seeing any new AP's. At the weekend I went on a drive to someware I had not visited before, and still no points.

As a result I contacted Navizon, and they said there was a problem with their application and would release a new version, which they did today.

Does this mean you need to get an update to the API so that the problem can be fixed in CameraAware also??

I download the podcast with iTunes and this week (10) Paul was missing from the audio - I think you fixed this and I need to re-download.

The main problem is that I get both the mp3 and m4a versions - it would be nice to be able to choose which to download.

That way when I auto sync my HTC S710 I would just get the enhanced version - Active sync is slow enough without having to send things twice!!

QUOTE(barfoo @ Feb 1 2008, 16:01) *
Is it like reformatting/installing new windows on a pc or more like a service pack (replace system files only)?

Im wondering if all added applications and settings will be lost (most of my applications were installed directly with a .cab on the mobile - not activesync)? Configurations (ie speedial configuration, wireless networks), Flash hack, etc. What about stuff installed on storage card?

Thanks!

Its just like reformatting/installing new windows on a PC (You get the same if you do a hard reset on the phone)

You will loose everything stored on the device - The storage card is not affected - you could remove it as an extra precaution before flashing.

You will need to re-install any application which makes registry changes - even if they are on the storage card - they might work without a re-install but its not guranteed.

I made a copy of \Application Data\Home \Program Files & \windows\Start Menu (as I had changed it a lot) before re-flashing mine.

After the re-flash I re-installed all the applications from the cab files I had saved on my pc from the time I first got the programs.

Then I copied back the folders I had saved.

This got it back up and running as before including any data from the apps which was lost during the rom update.

I also ran sprite backup before flashing - but I did not want to restore it as it might mess up the registry - but usefull for getting back any files found to be missing later.

In total it took me a day to get the phone back to how it was previously.

The phone seems to be much more stable with the update - including the fact that previously I had to remove the SD card before a re-boot - now it boots op without problems.

Ran CamerAware.3.080130.CAB today (after updating the rom on my HTC S710 and reloading all the software yesterday) and the autonight seems to switch ok, plus I did not get the hang on disconnect.

I will keep testing smile.gif

Here are the details from my Orange E650 purchased end of October '07 which has not been updated:
CE OS 5.2.1236 (build 17741.0.2.1)
Radio Version 4.1.13.41_02.88.90
RIL version 2.002

It seems to be running without any noticable problems so I guess this version of the ROM works OK.

Do I take it that any ROM updates would equally apply to both HTC 710 and the E650? Would I be able to safely run the debranding tweak?

I suggest you make a copy of CommManagerRes.dll (in the windows directory) before running the de-brander. Then if it breaks the comm manager display, you can copy back the original file to put it back to how it was before, with the green background.

I had to do this to fix mine after running the de-brander.

Apart from that after running the update and reloading all my software, everthing seems to be working fine. Including re-booting without having to remove the sd card, which I had to do with the old version.

it messes up the display - so its usuable if you know what keys to press.

I had to copy back the original CommManagerRes.dll file to fix it.

Yes, Auto Night Mode 'ticks that option' if it thinks it is either before sunrise or after sunset on the current day at the lat / long of the current GPS fix. Note you won't get a state change until you get a GPS fix, because it needs your position to calculate sunrise / sunset times.

P

I haven't got a fix (in the office) at the moment, but It had a fix at 9:00 this morning, on my way to work, and it did not change then.

It did not come out of night mode for me either (GMT+1) at 11:55 its still in night mode - but if I untick the night mode setting, it stays in day mode - how did the night mode setting get ticked - is this controlled by the auto night mode setting which is on?

Been running 3.080126 over the weekend on my S710 with no major problems. I did manage to crash it, by starting it up whilst connected to my home wifi connection. If I start it up with WiFi disconnected then it appears to perform without any noticable errors.

I will let you know if I get a problem.

Ive removed WMWifiRouter, which causes all sorts of oddness on my TyTN II, and it seems to be much better since. I shall keep you advised if it happens again.

I found that my S710 would not scan access points when the WMWiFiRouter device to device connection was active.

I got it to work by selecting "Only access points" in the Networks to access setting of the WiFi settings.
Then if I want to use the router I change the setting to "Only device-to-device" and it works fine.

After a re-boot the value for off is 0x1 and cameraware does not turn it on.

If I manually turn wi-fi on and off, then the off value is 0x5 (on = 0x7) and cameraware controls the wifi power.
