nope, no legal way to upgrade to 2k5 considering there wasnt an offical rom made for the mpx200. if u were to change the imei, then the vodacom sim might work. but i believe thats against the law for you. in the us ive never seen or heard of anyone getting fined for using a phone w/out a valid IMEI. i have heard its illegal over in certian parts of europe. not too sure where tho. i was able to do it to mine, but i dont know how i did it. LOL |

another thing, i saw a post on here that someone said to try, i think it was you take out the battery, hold down the left key, plug in the usb cable, then insert the batter all while holding the left key. not too sure if it was the waiting that made it work, or using that method. |

i had a similar problem. i just left the phone alone for like 5 months, and used another one, and left the battery out of my mpx200. then one day i was like, ehh... what the hell, so i tried it and it worked. |

then again, in that sense, i used to not be able to detect it on any of my usb ports except one, that one doesnt work now after a reboot, but i used a usb hub/card reader thingie, and when the phone is connected to that, it worked fine. |

are there any differences between using an sd card, as opposed to a mmc or rs-mmc in terms of battery life?? cuz ive got two mpx200's. one with the original rom, and the other with a "modified" rom. when i have my sd card in either phone, i get like 3 hours of battery life out of it, but when i use my mmc card, i can use the phone all day long like normal. ive been tryin to read into this a lil more, and i saw that there are low-voltage mmc and rsmmc cards out there(as well as sd). would there be much of a difference if i was to use a low voltage sd card as opposed to a mmc or rsmmc(with adapter, of course)?? |

i have been doin some thinking, i havent had a chance to try this, but my schedule for the next few days is open, so i might give it a shot. my thought is that its the ribbon cable that isnt making proper contact. so... by putting a small peice of paper, or even card stock(if necessary), inbetween the ribbon and the closing thingie(as in the attached pic), that might fix the problems. im not too sure on this, i only speculate. ![]() EDIT: i proved myself wrong, that doesnt fix anything. im stumped on this one now. |

*bump* I know it can be done, i did some research on that chinese MPX200_backup program. i found out that the creator of it is named marsgod. he is a poster on www.01outlet.com forums. he speaks chinese, do i attempted to send him a message. i used Google Language Tools to convert from english to simplified chinese. asking him what settings should it be set at. i have also found that inorder to backup the whole rom, it will take upwards of 2 hours. but i dont know what settings it needs to be at. if anyone on here knows, please help me. |

i did find a short remedy for this. but this remedy causes another problem. what i did was i took the little rubber screw covers from the screen, and put that inside the phone, right under where the M is. it worked for a couple days, but then, the screen cover starts getting pushed off. im sure theres one certian spot where you can apply a lil bit of pressure inside and make it work right. what i did was i took the screen apart, had it plugged in and turned on. i pressed on the ribbon cable of the external lcd and the internal one lit up. so thats how i determined where to put it. but after more messin around, im thinkin thats not the exact spot where pressure needs to be applied. about this being a common problem. i think it is, look on ebay, u will see lots of mpx200's for sale with defective backlights. i got one off ebay. with a bad backlight, and thats the one im using now, it lights up. so thats a simple but ghetto fix to this. not an absolute fix, but a quick fix for now. |

u know when you are looking online for more roms for the phone, how that theres a 30mb file that is what you flash onto the phone. is there someway that i can take my current phones software and create a 30 mb rom, so that when im done "experimenting" i can restore the phone back to how it was??? if not, thats cool, cuz ive got a spare mpx200(my old dead one got working) that i can "experiment" with. |

i have used this tutorial, it worked perfect for me. but, one thing he doesnt mension on there. he says save it to c:\oldsim.raw to keep it simple. he doesnt say that u need to have the program file on the root c: drive. so if the app is in like c:\tools.... u would need to save the file to c:\tool.... |

Yeah, my settings are the same as yours. I think w/e connects power to the screen is faulty. Today the screen came on couple of times and went out, and when you hit the back of the screen it sometimes comes on. thats how my screen is, but it doesnt go out fully, it just dims a lot. i bought an mpx200 off ebay that had a screen that didnt light up, i might try to see if i can figure out what the problem is. but i know for sure its not the phone itself, its just the screen. something on the screen. EDIT: Ok now, Mike55( or anyone else with this problem). i need you to test sumthin out. follow these diagrams and instructions hold the phone with you thumbs on the screen as so..... and with your fore fingers on the front as so... ![]() and push with ur fore fingers. see if the backlight flickers, or even better, turns on. |

yea, like tech said, its not a good thing to do any upgrades on the phone unless theyre from the provider directly. i tried something simliar on my old mpx200 and it wouldnt turn on when i was done. |

QUOTE ' date='Apr 29 2005, 02:32' post='578009']Here you go thanks to member greenwood for the image this might shed some more light onto the topic, then again it might screw everything up. that diagram that u posted awarner. i tried that. it didnt work out that well for me. i took an old cd player that has the headphone and line port side by side. took all the resistors off the board, and cut that section off the main board. then i went and wired up the wires to the connectors as per that diagram. heres what i found. NONE of the wires on that diagram are right. as far as i remember, here is how it should be. ![]() i spent about 3+ hours trying to get it working right, i had just about every single problem with it as possiable. then i finally got it working, put it all together in my little project box, and tested it. and it didnt work. so i ended up scrapping that plug set. made a second one, with just the headphones. that one took me like 30+ mins to put all together, and it works fine. like i posted before, i think thats how they were. not too sure at this exact moment, im posting this after like 6 hours after fiddleing around with this stuff. lol. i just wish i would have really documented this as i was doing it. oh well... now i know better for next time. then again, it might have been me.... not being able to figure out which pole on the headphones was audio L, audio R, and ground. lol. |

its been a while since i used my previous mpx200. as far as i remember, as soon as the phone would start ringing, it would display who was calling. with the mpx200 i have now, it takes it like 2 seconds before it will display the number. is that normal?? is there a registry tweak i can use to fix that?? could it be cuz im using the caller id program that came on the disk with the phone?? |

1. do it without a sim card in the phone. 2. the way the program makes the *.raw file, is only in the directory where the program is at. ex. C:\mobile unlock toolss\bin\mpx200_backup.exe is the program. in step 3, save it to C:\mobile unlock toolss\bin\*.raw |

it seems the only way it can be done is through linux. http://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Multip..._a_CF_/_SD_card i read on a treo forum somewhere, someone did this and their treo will only read one partition. chances are its the same for the mpx200. but it wont hurt to try. |
