correct me if i am wrong , I do remember reading somewhere that if u are on a call and you pull the stylus out of the Diamond it pops up the notes app .. it may do it in a call, but i was tlaking about in general. for example, if you see somehing when wlking about or browsing in a shop and you want to make a note of it quickly, and your phoen is off and in your pocket when you see whatever you wan to make a note on |

http://www.euro.dell.com/content/topics/to...&cs=ukdhst1 Dell do a few laptops where the broadband card is built in ... however they are partnered with Vodafone ... but Im sure you could stick in a three or t-mo sim too. from that page it looks like they want you to sign up to a contract at time of purcahse, which completely eradicates any use of other networks unless you're very good at manipulating the 14-day rule (which would nigh-on be over by the time dell actually deliver) |

lol just something to note though is that i noticed on the website that in at least 3's case, the more expensive tariffs might get you more off the price of the laptop, but don't actually give you anythin more in the tariff, which ends up in a rather rubbish deal really however, if you can, try to stretch to the £35 a month 18 month 3 tariff, as although it'll cost you 90 quid more over the course of the contract for the same 3GB a month, you'll get another 150 quid off the laptop, which will mean you're £60 better off by the time the contract finishes that to me seems like the best deal (and i think is pretty similar to the ones you mentioned in your first post). just make sure you choose a laptop that costs at least the amount of money you're gonna get taken off, otherwise it starts benefitting them more than you ah, and as usual make sure you pick a decent laptop and don't let the salesman force you into buying what he wants you too (and i would reccomend going away and thinking about anything you're about to put 18 months of your money into, inlcuding reading reviews, before shaking hands) |

yeah the pc world deals are interesting because they just knock off about 200 quid from the price of any laptop in the store...its certainly a better iidea than the "here. its this laptop or nothing" that others offer |

knowing a computer administrator who deals with a huge number of computers in schools, I would personally reccomend the acer myself both my current computers are acers (including my new laptop, see my sig, and two desktop machines bought last january). none of them have ever, ever, gone wrong, and i've never ever had any software problems either (except with programs i've installed, and when i screwed up the vista upgrade on my desktop) hp however have proven to not be so reliable. nigh-on all of the hp computers have had some sort of problem over time, and quite frequent problems include hard disk failures which require a new hard disk and re-installation of everying, although with one laptop a teacher had the motherboard just completely failed one day, and we ended up just binning the laptop (hp support were predictably not interested) personally, if you are taking up one of the free laptop deals, i'd say go with the acer if it makes no difference to you, especially considering you'll be in contract and want to keep it for at least 2 years if, however, you are thinking of buying a laptop outright, i'd personally reccomend either dabs.com or laptopsdirect.co.uk, and go for a lenovo or a fujitsu siemens (i like the value of the 3000 N200 Lenovo). You should be able to get a finance deal from somewhere, and these are the 2 makes that i've found provide the best value at the low end of the market combined with the best build quality and support (fujistu siemens even give you actual recovery disks!) |

not a problem yeah bluetooth and wifi really do take a chunk out of your battery, though bluetooth a lot less than wifi in my experience hopefully said tutorial should help out others who're in a similar position to you were (it didn't seem to me like a very easy setup process to be honest, although I am yet to get bluetooth PAN working proerly on my vista pc....) |

QUOTE(Thox) Change between two input keyboards. A finger friendly version when the stylus is in, and a fast typing full qwerty keyboard (the MS default one is my preferred) when the stylus is out. Now theres a good idea! I wonder how easy it would be to determing what application/state the phone is in at the time of stylus removal, that way you could have all sorts of actions...another one i've just thought of is to put the phone back into standby if you've finished writing a note like i said earlier |

this would be the perfect feature to solve a problem somebody had a huge moan about a while ago on modaco as the touch diamond is basically designed for finger-only use, why not setup the phone so that when the stylus is extracted, the notes application (or something similar but more powerful) automatically pops up and starts a new note. that way you'd be able to very easily note down your thoughts as you have them, instead of having to faff around getting the stylus out, navigating to notes, forgetting what you wanted to note down, starting a new note, going back to wherever you were in a vein attempt to remember what you wanted to note, and then noting it... whos up for the challenge...? |

you can get it working over bluetooth (i managed to last night with my friends macbook), but you can only use the bluteooth to connect to the internet or to transfer files to connect to the internet (and these arent hard-and-fast guidelines as i'm doing this from memory, not being an osx fan): before you start, i'm assuming that the bluetooth function on both the mac and the kaiser is turned off, and that you haven't created any pairings so far - make sure that you delete any pairings that you currently have 1) open up comm manager on the kaiser and turn on internet sharing 2) make sure that internet sharing is using your usual internet access point for the internet connection (mine is T-Mobile Internet) 3) make sure that the communication interface for internet sharing is set to bluetooth, then tap connect - at this point it will probably complain that bluetooth isn't turned on (if it isn't, obviously), in which case tap yes to turn it on 4) tap ok to get back into the comm manager, and click Settings>Bluetooth 5) in the "Mode" tab, make sure that the "make this device visible to other devices" is activated (ticked) 6) click ok, and close comm manager to return to the main screen. You should notice in a seperate section at the bottom a flashing bluetooth icon - this indicates that the kaiser is ready to recieve a bluetooth pairing request 7) go back into comm manager, and tap internet sharing again to make sure that the internet sharing on the phone is still ready (it should state at the top of the screen "Device setup finished. On the PC, connect Bluetooth PAN") 8) on the mac, click the bluetooth icon on the top right of the screen, and turn bluetooth on 9) click the icon again, and select the option to setup a new bluetooth device or pairing (i can't remember the exact phraising) 10) the mac should start searching the bluetooth area for devices - once your kaiser pops up, select it and click next 11) the mac should provide you with a passcode that you'll need to initiate the pairing between your mac and your kaiser 12) on the kaiser, you should see a popup telling you that your mac is requesting that you create a new pairing. tap connect, and you should be prompted to enter the passcode that should be displayed on the mac setup screen 13) enter the passcode and click connect 14) the kaiser should now say something along the lines of connection successful. just click ok at this point, you don't need to worry about the advanced setting unless something goes wrong 15) on the mac at this point, it should be showing you a list of all the "profiles" that the kaiser and mac support - as long as "Bluetooth PAN" is selected and activated, we should be alright, so click next 16) the network settings window should now pop up annoyingly on your mac. we don't need this just yet, so minimise it for now 17) back in the bluetooth window, click on the pairing with the kaiser and make sure that its connected 18) once the kaiser and the mac are definately connected, go back into network settings and at the bottom there should be a new option for "Bluetooth PAN" 19) you shouldn't need to change any of the settings for a Bluetooth PAN connection, so just go ahead and click connect to setup the internet connection on the mac 20) once the mac shows that it is connected and has an ip address, the kaiser should also say "connected" in the internet sharing dialogue, and you should be succesfully connected to the internet through your mobile providers mobile internet connection as ever, make sure that you are allowed to connect to the internet using your phone as a modem before you setup a bluetooth pan connection, as many mobile broadband packags that are "add-ons" to standard price plans have a fair use policy deeming that using the phone as a modem for a computer is disallowed, including the standard version of web 'n' walk, although in reality it is highly unlikely that you'll ever get caught using your phone as a modem - if they do catch you, however, you're in for a stonking great bill at the end of the month hopefully this is the information you were after....thats what i thought you wanted from what you said anyway... any problems or queries, post back in the thread and myself or somebody with more experience of macs will do our best to help you out andrew edit: many many spelling mistakes - must get used to my new keyboard...woo:D 150 posts makes me an enthusiast |

i would imagine that considering a new software version has been released by htc, that t-mobile would be recalling all of the stock that they currently have ino rder to preinstall the newer firmware on them , considering that the vario 4 is currently a flagship device that would then mean that once done t-mobile could start rolling out the update to customers who have already got the device that would probably also help to explain the rather short wait time until the new stock and the huge number of people waiting (as well as the presence of stock in the stores) it would be proposterous to recall a flagshpi product for a simple software update - much better to leave it and just deal with the relatively tiny number of people who are likely to not be able to upgrade the handset themselves by upgrading current stock and simply replacing units |

do you mean the ordnance survey grid of the UK, or some other grid system like a map or something? there are hundreds of different grid navigation systems in use in the UK if you mean the OS national grid, then you can buy/download a program called Memory Map (memory-map.co.uk). The cost depends on which maps you buy it with, but the cheapest version is the national parks in 1:25k, which is £20 from amazon, but this will only give you the OS coordinates if you are within the boundaries of the maps you have installed on the phone. the only other program I know of that might be able to calculate OS grid locations is Quo by Mapyx, which is cheaper but I don't think there is a windows mobile version |

yeah....i've noticed that the kaiser (and opera and youtubeplay) seems to underwhelm rather when on wifi...in the most part, my kaiser actually works better when its on the hsdpa network... although....as a hint, i have found that opera 9.5 is ridiculously slow - so much so in fact that two speed tests taken directly after each other typically show that PIE will load the page roughly 5 times faster than opera (last time PIE reported 1.2MB/s, but opera a measly 286KB/s) |

i never could understand the point of last.fm (never seemed to work for me) just to let you know, you now need the recompiled TCPMP (which comes natively with the flash video compatibility), which is on xda-devs somewhere...otherwise it doesnt start properly i'd also reccomend a program called vTap - its quite a good video+audio streaming and finding program, and also lets you read wikipedia entries easily |

lol...yeah xda-devs do seem to reserve a particular hatrid to people who just want to ask about something...they're useful for just reading info and downloading things though infact, if you do a search on xda-devs for "youtubeplay", you should find an excellent youtube player (although for some reason it only displays 5 results for each search. brilliantly, you can also download the actual FLV videos using it and play them back in TCPMP (ask if you cant find the WM6.1 comptible one and i'll fire it across to you) if you're on a slow connection |

Hrm, I've tried the keyboard on a diamond, it's good but I didnt think it was a hardware replacement just yet. I have to say I agree Now that I've got used to the keyboad on the kaiser every soft-keyboard I try just doesnt seem to work well for me..I think I just like the feedback and reassurance that a hardware keyboard gives, as I often don't look at the keyboard when I'm typing, so its nice to know my keypress has been recognised still trying to figure out whether I should spend all that much on a phone that will only reallistically give me slightly faster internet...I suppose it depends how much it's going to set me back |

http://www.modaco.com/content/htc-kaiser-k...d-cf-3-5-more/# Thats the one you want then! Its basically the generic HTC rom, but with a whole bunch of improvements (including native AppToDate installation) the ROm should sort out your touchscreem problems, I haven't had any out of interest where/what did you use to get your phone unlocked? |

that rom form the htc site won't be 3 branded assuming you do want an unbranded rom (it really makes no difference, except maybe making the phoe a bit faster), I would reccomend you use the TLR rom that can be found on this thread - this is based on the ROM you mention but adds and modifies useful parts to generally improve the ROM |

cancel that, sorry.. ...it does seem it is only 3.6:( still, has anybody noticed any significant change in speed between 3.6 and 7.2 devices, considering the network is the limitation? i currently get around 1mbps at the moment, which is alright but i'd prefer better as i'll likely be using it at uni I'd go into a shop and ask but they'd just talk b***s*** ... |

This one has been confusing me for a while - I'm trying to figure out what the theoretical max of hte hsdpa modem in the tytn ii is - i keep reading conflicting reports I'm sure HTC quoted it as 7.2mbps, but when I bought it (its a Vario III bte), t-mobile quoted 3.6 Does anybody know what the max actually is (i.e. did t-mo only say 3.6 because thats what their network had at thetime)? Also, obviously I know theres no hope of ever getting the actual theoretical max, but does having the faster 7.2 modem on the (now) faster network actually make too much of a difference to speeds?
