Hey folks, I've picked up a VPA 1605 which I want to use on O2 - I chose the Vodafone because I like its looks plus O2 don't have their variant out yet. The problem I've having is that although I can make and receive calls ok, sms no problem sadly GPRS and MMS are eluding me. I've copied all the GPRS and MMS settings from my XDA Mini S which works fine but MMS gives me errors (it doesn't even try to start a GPRS connection) and GPRS seems to fire up a connection, think about transferring data for a while and then die. When I was having a similar problem getting the Mini S on Vodafone someone pointed me to a Vodafone cab which did the GPRS settings automatically, if I can find them would these work on the Hermes? Also, are there any restrictions aside from the ones mentioned for Vodafone that might be causing this issue? Thanks for any help, between not being to use GPRS, no MMS and the totally unresponsive keyboard I'm starting to think I've made a serious mistake...I really want to like this phone though as it pretty much every thing I wanted that the Mini S lacked. edit: Ok, my V1605 seems to have sensed my distress and guided me to the advanced section of the networks and I've managed to get MMS working. Now to test GPRS and try and work out what's up with this keyboard. Thanks, John |

My main complaint about the C600 is the lack of wi-fi, other than that I'm quite pleased with it. I wasn't a big fan of the C500 though, hated the rocker in particular - the C600 has a much better screen, I find the joystick better and in general it feels as if it uses better plastics. John |

QUOTE(fluffcat1 @ Feb 15 2006, 15:23) Which handsets are you basing this statement on? Richard p.s HTC don't make the camera modules - Agilent Technologies make them for HTC. And for Compal's SonyEricsson handsets. And Shenzhen's Motorola handsets.... I think you know what I meant, but if you want to be pedantic HTC don't choose great camera modules for their devices. I'm basing this on each HTC device I've seen or used, the cameras are appalling - other companies are using cameras which are actually fairly reasonable. John |

Hey Advent, had a look at your link and not quite sure what you're referring to? Bought one of Boxwave's screen protectors for the Wizard, excellent piece of kit. John |

Thanks for the response, I have seen that one but it's not really what I'm looking for as it's designed to work with phone remaining in the case. More along this sort of line (this is much like the Wizard one): http://pdaden.com/shop/images/CLC4dopod818...ni_bf_front.jpg John |

I'm looking for a case for the C600, so far most of the ones I've found are those which the phone is placed in and then remains there. Ideally I'd like something like the HTC Wizard/P900 case where you just slide the phone in and then take it out to use it. Not looking to spend a lot of money as it's just a case, any suggestions? Thanks, John |

HTC don't produce good cameras, just the way it is. Although I don't expect camera phones to replace a digital camera there are quite a few phone cameras now which produce acceptable quality. HTC obviously go for the business side more but hopefully it's something they will improve in time. John |

Doesn't sound like the Mini is suitable for you, I've been impressed with the responsiveness of the Mini compared to my X50V but so far I've not had much luck with video playback. I didn't expect it to be able to match the X50V at all but dropping the resolution and framerate doesn't seem to help much. I've only had the Mini a couple of weeks so I perhaps need to experiment more with settings. I was also toying with the Exec as I like the VGA screen on my X50V but I just found it way too large to be practical for me day to day, even the Mini is quite bulky for holding up to your ear. This isn't strictly on-topic, hope this is ok. My C500 contract is about to run out, it was an off peak crossnet 25 pound a month from Onestopphonehop with nine months line rental cashback - obviously a great deal. I've been left an answermachine message about upgrading; looking on their site with my tariff the current deal is seven months line rental free on the C600 and the crossnet tariff - I'm wondering what sort of upgrade deal they could offer? Originally I planned to just churn the contract by disconnecting it and starting a new one on that deal. I'm curious, are they likely to offer an upgrade deal with similar levels of cashback? I realise it's highly unlikely, but nothing ventured, nothing gained John |

I've brilliantly managed to leave the charger 162 miles away, will the C500 charger work ok with the Mini S? Can't see why not, but no harm in checking first John |

Just to be clear it's not the warranty I'm asking about, I've bought the phone on contract from O2. If not happy with the phone/contract then you can return the phone and cancel the contract. O2 are not clear about the condition it should be returned in - I don't want to rip off the screen covering, pop out the sim and so forth then find I can't return it if I decide I don't want to keep it. My O2 Mini S has arrived and so far I'm very pleased with it - I am a little wary of the problems I have read about though so I want to be sure I can put it back ok. According to O2 it must be in original condition but what does this mean exactly? Basically can I rip the screen cover thing off (the thing that says you must read the EULA) and break out the sim? I know this sounds a daft question but I would like some reassurance! John |

I faced this decision as well, the Exec really wowed me but in the end I didn't think I could use it on a day to day basis because of its massive size and weight, plus I have an X50V which I can leave at home when I just need a phone, and not the bulk. Initially I dismissed the Wizard because of its slow processor and mini SD but after O2 dropped it to 50 quid and I like the size/weight after trying one in store I've ordered a wizard, it seems a good P900 replacement. Time will tell though. John |

Just as the title says I was going to go for an XDA Exec but I'm thinking the Mini S is a better choice, I have an X50V as well but I'm just wondering if it's unlocked on O2 as the Exec is? Searched the forum, but no luck in finding info on this. John |

This sounds a bit alarming, any progress on it? I knew someone with a Treo 650, who had it configured to check for e-mail every ten minutes or something as he had plenty of available data on his tariff. However, he went abroad for a month and forgot to turn this off, came back to a 4,000 pound bill or something crazy like that. The worst part was that in all that time he only received ten e-mails! QUOTE(Confucious @ Jan 3 2006, 07:30) Check with TomTom but they sell it for the C500 on SD and you have to copy it on to a mini SD (so I believe) The Vario (HTC Wizard) is a nice phone but 3G and the bigger scteen mean it's the Universal all the way for me. Horses for courses and all that. Good luck The 640x480 screen is definitely one of the main factors for me, I'm currently using an X50V for my PDA so I don't know if I could go back down to 320x240 on the Vario. John |

The Vario looks a very neat little device, much the same size and weight as the P900 but it's quite pricey (two thirds the cost of the Exec) and doesn't take SD. John |

Happy New Year all! I'm still using a P900 as my day to day phone for a couple of years now (a record for me!), although I've bought various phones in the interim I've always come back to the P900 as it's such a solid, reliable phone. Being a bit of a gadget freak the XDA Exec has me tempted but I've found my X50V to be fairly unreliable as it often needs soft restarts, especially after using TT5. For my phone, I don't want to take it out of my pocket to find it's locked up, or something has crashed - in day to day operation, how have people found their XDA Execs as a phone? Thanks, John |
