QUOTE(flywest @ May 8 2007, 03:23) *
I have now owned my Qtek 8300 17 months.

Do you wish you got the 8310 version though. I do as the button layout looks much better. The music buttons on the 8300 are useless and make the rest of the buttons squashed. Plus I think the 8310 looks a lot cooler. I went for the 8300 because I was young and reckless and thought the music buttons looked cool at the time. Also I too have problems with the joystick and its the main reason I went for an upgrade rather than keeping this good'old compact high tech phone for a bit longer.

cool.gif

One thing that I enjoyed about the tornado was that no one else had it yet it was a very, very cool phone. Nowadays if theres a cool, top of the range phone, lots of people have it (I have already seen a few who have the N95 and lots of people with that 3.2MP sony ericsson).

People who looked at my phone had never seen it before, and had usually never seen windows on a phone. This made it very exclusive and cool.

I do wish there was an update though, better processor and an amazing camera + all the features it had anyway, same form factor perhaps smaller...I would definately have waited for such a device sad.gif , this is why I have had to make the switch to symbian ohmy.gif

I havent posted here for some months now. I have owned my Qtek 8300 for 16 months and have just got a new phone, the Nokia N95. It has made me realise how advanced the phone really was.

Gps, 2GB phone memory capable, WiFi, great screen, EDGE, Normal headphone jack (with my 3.5 adaptor anyway), powerful and can install very cool apps (tcpmp player, usb storage thing, office opening tools) all in a resonably small package.

I guess am just having some emotions parting from it. I am keeping it as a spare and will still be using it for GPS until tomtom comes out for the N95.

Of course a year in phones still means a huge leap in technology and the N95 has plenty of it, but thats not for this topic.

How great do you think the HTC Tornado was/still is?

I have spent quite a bit now trying to get the right 2.5 to 3.5 adaptor that works. I have been through 2 that both require me to slightly pull the adaptor out and push it at certain angles to get the right sound.

mad.gif

Anyway I have bought this from ebay:

Ebay tastic

It just...works.

You plug it in phone, plug you male ended 3.5mm device in the other end and it works. Everything plugs in easily and securly, no missing speaker coverage and will play all sound options you get in tcmp player (mono, mono left, mono right, stereo, stereo swapped - the best option).

It plugs into my car casset mp3 plug thing and works, works on my tv speaker adptor, works on my laptop speakers and finally, works be-utifully on my 3.5mm sony headphones.

It just works. And its cheap at 99p+£2 delivery. It did take a couple of weeks to get delivered because its from hong kong but that didn't bother me. I have 2, one for the car and one for the home.

Is there a way to use a timer on the camera. (Qtek 8300)

Eg: I want to click capture and then I want the phone to take the picture in the amount of time that I specifed.

Time delay? blink.gif

I think you get the idea by now rolleyes.gif

While am here are there extra picture themes you can download for it...or even better is there a way to make your own and add it to the cameras theme sections.

Finally, if I smash a light bulb in using a hammer will it give the camera a flash?

Just for the record.

I use mobymemory.com, they sell both official cards and there own branded cards. Back in Feb I bought a 2gb mini sd mobymemory manufactured card and I have had no problems with it.

I have found there only ever £5 deerer, if that, than the cheapest cards you find on ebay which I think is pretty good.

Scary how fast cards go cheap. A 2GB mini sd card will now only set you back £38. Back in Feb I think it was around £80.

Will Facade communicate with the standard calendars and task programs that you get with WM5 or is it better to buy papyrus in order to use Facade?

I would like that. You do a bit of basic at A-level computing. It would be good if I could run my apps on wm5 smile.gif

QUOTE(pavankp @ Jun 9 2006, 22:36) *
Is your entry method showing as "T9" or "ABC" instead of "t9"/"abc"? If so, just press and hold the * key and you will see a list -- select "t9" or "abc" and you will have normal letters.

I know how to select t9 or abc. What I don't know is how to switch from capitals to lower case and from lower case to capitals.

Hi, I am trying to rename a device using captal letters and I cannot find out how to do so.

The device needs to be renamed because its case sensitive. What feature do I enable in order to rename this device with capital letters. I sware it can't be done. huh.gif

Such a simple requirement. I can't sync the phone with my PC and rename it using the file manager, as its a seperate bluetooth device and has to be renamed with my phone.

Perhaps theres a keyboard app out there that allows a caplocks button to be enabled?

EDIT:

Thanks sporkguy

Looks good. One of the few up coming phones that meets my demands. However the size maybe an issue (is it bigger than the HTC tornado?). Move that joystick up to where the logo is and stretch all the buttons upwards and we have a winner (if its not too big).

1.3megapixcel camera is not good enough. It should be at least 2 and take a good picture. It should also have flash.

If it had those features that phone would be a certain purchase for me.

Microsoft seems keen in including extra gaming options into its windows based mobile phones as announnced at e3:

QUOTE
The games will be accessible via the Xbox Live online network. This is now being extended to PCs running Windows Vista and mobile phones using Windows.

I will be looking for a powerhouse wm5 phone next which is still small and sleek and has a hell of a camera. TBH I would rather get a phone with a 3MP camera at christmas which will be possible and I doubt there will be a smartphone for some time that has that.

Are there any WM phones coming that match my power house but small and sleek criteria yet?

I bought my 2 gb sd from here:

http://www.mobymemory.com/1GB_2GB_mini_SD_..._MobyMemory.asp

Moby memory.

Guess what I bought it only 3 months ago and its £30 cheaper allready. The rate memory has been going down is fricken amazing.

Oh, by the way I use it in my Qtek 8300 and I have had no problems whatsoever (the moby made version).

I use it to store music, pictures and futurama episodes. cool.gif

Phones2udirect are crap. But I got my Qtek8300 off them. The amatuers couldn't carry my old number onto my new contract, even though it was the same operator. Also they where suppose to tell O2 that I had used the pack code I requested off them and they didn't, meaning my old contract didn't get cancelled. Fcuking noobs. mad.gif

But I've got it now. There phone service is crap...but I ordered and it got delivered at a record price, in record time. TBH this phone has been out so long now it should be going cheaper and be more available. Instead its becoming more rarer and more expensive. rolleyes.gif

I went for phones2udirect because I wanted it on contract and out of all the websites I looked at they where a lot cheaper and they had it in stock. Other websites that offered contracts where at stupidly high prices, and I didn't have £300+ to splash out in one go for PAYG. This contract all together works out slightly more than PAYG but I get to pay it off monthly and I get 100mins and texts.

Turns out the new number I gots better anyway, a lot easier to remember tongue.gif

I'm happy, but I can't say switching from a soundly working sony ericsson to slightly lackluster windows mobile 5 phone has been all that...groovy.

One piece of advice when choosing your HTC TORNADO. DO NOT PICK THE MUSIC VERSION, THOSE MUSIC BUTTONS ARE A COMPLETE WASTE OF SPACE AND TIME.

Can someone remind me how I claim the cashback offered on this phone?

Thats a very, very good program. But theres a problem.

I have only had one go with it. It produced a very good convertion, very quickly. A futurama episode converted into a 70mb filesize. But this was with all of the quality levels on max. I am pretty sure the HTC tornado can handle more.

Shame the program writers put so low quality limitors for smartphone on it, and with no contact email address or forums I cannot make a suggestion.

I know increased resolution will mean increased file size, but I have a 2gb card behind it.

Take this video for example

http://uk.media.games.ign.com/articles/693...580/vids_1.html

IGN Weekly. 40 minutes or there abouts, 320x180 resolution, 128mb file size. While it looks great and the audio is fine the frame rate is terrible.

Ideally I want a program that will convert most video files into the perfect format for my HTC Tornado and play on the media player.

I probably have a program already installed on my PC that can do it. But what numbers would you people reccomend?

Resolution, format, fps, bitrate e.t.c.

The HTC Tornado screen was built with widescreen in mind, it would be such a shame to miss out on its excellent video playback capabillities.

Is this the best calendar/to do list app out there?

better than these

This looks like it will solve all my current problems with the pre installed calendar/to do list.

Its just I want to buy the right one. It would be a nightmare buying one and then finding out 'this other' is better.

This one looks good.
