hi. Finally managed to convince someone at the local o2 shop that they can do it and got my xda mini s on data 5 total cost £172. Absolute bargain, they must be making a loss on these. Interestingly they are still saying £199 for the exec on data 5. Managed to get all the o2 crap off it using a hard reset and then using corporate settings. To anyone setting up for the first time I highly recommend three bits of software. First Pocket Informant to replace the standard calender, tasks and contacts software. Next install Pocket spb+ to setup some useful stuff on the homescreen (and also as it then makes progs actually close) and finally try out Resco Explorer, within minutes I had that mapping my network drives and wirelessly streaming mp3s to the phone. So far, very impressed. Stu |

I found i got an error when i tried to run the prog first time. I worked out that if you do the hard reset with the phone still connected to the usb then although it says usb on the screen it fails when you run the program. Leave the usb disconnected until you get to the white screen then connect it, it comes up usb and the prog runs with no error message. Stu |

wasn't there a post somewhere else pointing out that htc in the uk will replace the casing of the unit for about £30? Surely that would be a better option than getting rid of it. |

Hi How good is this. Just downlaoded a prog called nyditot virtual display (available from pocketgear). The program lets you create virtual display resolutions within the normal 320x240 display. Here are a few examples. This is standard 320x240 landscape display This is virtual display 640x480 Then putting it up to 800x600 Which is great as you can hop between resolutions on the fly, so you can navigate pages zoomed out and then if you want to zoom in to read something more comfortably then you can do that as well. Here is my programs list at 640 x 480 Must say that this is a very useful prog. Stu |

Hi Been setting mine up for a few days now and I think I am about happy with the software i have now. I have installed: On the serious side of things: Pocket Informant Pro 5.6 (Fantastic replacement for the standard calneder/tasks/contacts/etc..) Spb Pocket Plus (Very very useful today plugins and real close app feature) Betaplayer (For some movie play back) D9 (To replace the standard dialer - though I think I may go back to the original) Full Screen Keyboard (Kinda does what it says) PhatNotes (more advanced notes replacement) TomTom 3 (For use with bluetooth gps module) Set as ring tone app (Give the option to set any audio file as ringtone by hold tap on it) And on the fun side of things: Antelion (Great 3D sace shoot em up - a bit like wing commander) Bubble blaster (futuristic bust a move) Flux Challenge (Futuristic tunnel racing thingy) Morphgear 2.3.0.2 (Multi system emulator - now have snes/megadrive/nes at full screen, full speed). Microsoft Arcade Pack (Pac-Man!!!!) Snails (great worms like game, superb) Tomb Raider (complete 3D conversion of playstation original) Virtual Pool Mobile (Greatest game I have - 3D pool game) ZioGolf 2 (Pretty good 3D golf game) Then filled the rest of my gig sd card with movies/music and roms. Hi Service from scancom is excellent. I took the drive out to Leicester to go get it in person. Took 10 mins in the shop and then I walked away with it. Can't get over how great it is. Stu |

Hi all
I haven't posted here in quite a while and unfortunately it's with a gripe I am having with my mpx200 (and Orange). My mpx200 has started to crash to a black screen with a garbled display on the outer-lcd. When trying to switch it on it will sometimes get as far as the orange logo and then lock. Removal of the battery does not help. When left for about an hour it will magically start working again. The fault was not too inconvenient until it started doing it on a daily basis as it is now. Enter Orange, the customer service gurus?!?, who have argued with me for a good few hours today about it. They have sent the fault to their technical department who couldn't work out what was wrong with it. Then when I asked for a replacement they have decided that my phone freezing for an hour at any random point in the day is not enough to be classed as a fault. It needs to lock for 7 or 8 hours of the day to be a fault. So their final line on it is that a fault is not a fault unless they say it is too inconvenient. The customer service coach gave me an example. If half the screen died, but you could still see enough to make calls then that is not faulty. They also advised me that as a smartphone it has an in built feature to prevent damage to the phone, and this is what is happening. So I have an ask of the good people here. If you have had a phone replaced by Orange as faulty (any phone, not just mpx200s) for anything that wasn't as bad as it being dead for 7 hours a day then can you reply to this thread. I would like to see if Orange are true to their word in not replacing handsets that are not completely dead. I know from my experience they have as I had an spv replaced for dust. I have the file open with my local trading standards who found it incredible that they would say this to me. So any other ammo anyone can offer would be nice. Thanks for any help on this Stu |

I know this is an old post originally now but it kind of illustrates a point.
This thread started around the end of november, it is now nearly March and the MS smartphone has had what new great games? And I appreciate fully what Midnight is saying about games taking time, but we seem to only have you developing much in the way of new stuff. The market is still young, but what MS must realise is that the mobile phone market is unique in that most customers change their handset every year or two. So if someone currently has an MS smartphone and wants to play games, they may well upgrade to a symbian phone when their contract comes up for renewal. I think to generalise all n-gage games as 'crap' is a little flippant. There are some great games on the n-gage which in turn means that these same great games will work on the nokia 6600 and the sx1. As well as the standard system 60 games and the java games I think that Symbian is far and away the better games system (3 months on from the start of this post). And if Kumite and the 'mystery game' are all that MS smartphone is getting then I think it will stay that way. Stu |

Looks pretty nice.
Size wise it doesn't look too bad. If that screen is the same size as the mpx200 then it looks to be about 9-10cm long which aint too bad. Stu |

Looks good.
But... with the placement of the home, hang up, etc.. buttons does this mean that the pad can only be used as a four way? They seem to be in the way of the diaganols. Hopefully this is just an early drawing. Stu |

Try a piece of software called dvdx. This will fully convert the DVD from the disk to a divx using the settings of your choosing, easy to set up for smartphone or pocket pc resolutions.
Available from www.afterdawn.com http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so...pers/index2.cfm I will post some settings after I have had a fiddle. Stu |

oh, one more thing.
You may have to reinstall the orange update from the canary screen on the e100, i think it errors if you try to install it with the phone booted up. (I think, not too sure on this) Stu |

QUOTE i have updated my rom to from the orange to the iMate 1.50 rom . As far as i am aware this rom update network unlocks the phone (true or not ?!?!?!?!?). No such luck. i have downloaded the spv unlocking program and run it .. this gets to 100% but the messege returned tells me that the number that is retrieved is not what is expected .. and the prog ends . i previously used the unlocker on my original spv without any probs at all .. does anyone know a fix to unlock this phone ? this is worth cash to someone to find a successful solution !!! i have 4 days to do it .. but no cradle ... just to make things that little more challenging !!! Yep, the unlock prog won't work unless you are running orange 1.3.5. Simply reinstall this upadate (available from www.monolithix.org). Run the unlock prog and get the key. Then unlock it and re-install the imate update. Thats what I did. Stu |

I fully charged all of my smartphones and then left them running without charge for a full day and night. In the morning this was the result:
MPX200 : Main batttery at 67% Treo 600: Battery at 91% SPV : Battery had 1 bar left E200: DEAD, flat battery What do the SPV series do that other phones don't when they are idle? But very pleasing news on the MPX200, shows its not the OS. Stu |

QUOTE First and foremost in a phone and fine on my handset as well as many of my friends'. We must have been lucky?! Must have been. Although I wouldn't say the call quality is as bad as some people make out it is still nowhere near the quality of other modern handsets. OCS is a fine example to phone up, the recorded voice sounds boomy, causing them to distort on the speaker. If you know someone with a recent sony ericsson or nokia compare them with your e200, the quality is worlds apart. Stu |

QUOTE Notice there are no topics hailing the lack of GPRS sticking, people are jumping on the band wagon and putting down the E200 as it seems to be the done thing atm. It reminds me of how people put down MS software, something that i didn't think i'd come across on an MS Smartphone forum! It seems that people were a little pissed off at being beta testers for the original SPV, cos to be fair it was full of bugs. The fact that Orange have delayed 1.6 update for so long has made a lot of people annoyed (as the updates are there to fix problems with the phone, therefore Orange are happy for us to have defective software whilst other networks roll out their updates). Now if you take all of that and then bring out a new phone, which has very few new features. People expect it to work properly after a year of doing Oranges bug testing with pretty poor support. When it is found to have a number of problems within the first week of release I can perfectly well understand peoples anger and frustration. I think also people felt like this phone was gonna fix all the problems from last time, most of which it does not really address. The poor GPRS connection is just one problem, and still only an annoyance. More serious to me is the shocking phone call quality, surely this should be first and foremost in a phone. Stu |

QUOTE The big problem with the SPV and E100 was the dialling bug, it would sit in this state forever! This has definately been fixed on the E200. Yes it has, but it still spends a disproportionate amount of time connecting. Stu |

QUOTE I'm with brody on this one. whats the problem with GPRS?? I think to appreciate the poor quality of the gprs connection on the SPV family (e200 included) you have to use a non-MS smartphone. For example my Treo connects instantly to any service (web, e-mail, messenger), the E200 sits saying connecting. What is it doing? Other handsets don't need this time to connect, they just do it. Many times I have sat with my E200 or SPV or MPX200 waiting and waiting for it to connect, on some days it can take a good 30 seconds. Also on a connecting note, it is quite interesting when you run msn messenger on the e200 along side the spv. They both connect in a very similar space of time, yet the spv displays the timer in the middle of the screen, the E200 does not. Have MS cut down the amount of annoying timer time by simply making it disappear? (out of sight, out of mind?) Stu |

QUOTE I have had alot of replacement phones through Orange (all Nokia) & they send it on a next day service. you get the phone & nothing else no battery, sim, charger, manual, etc. the TNT driver should make sure that you swap out just the handset. I will be heading into Worthing Orange retail Sat AM for a replacement phone (mine was an upgrade) as it has the buzzing & BT is shite, <5ft range on the moto 810 handsfree! The reason they only send the phone and not the battery and accessories is because they are usually refurbished handsets. That is what the small print in your ToS says. This is why I had 9 6210s, cos they all had the same problem that Orange didn't recognise, so it was never fixed in the refurbs. If they are sending you a new phone then it will be boxed and sealed (if you kick up enough of a stink you will get a new one). With the E200 being new they may have some replacement units already set aside for faulties, either that or they have had enough back to start recyling already. Stu |

QUOTE For video files have a look at http://www.mmplayer.com/ it may be another add-on but it can play them MMplayer is great. I registered for the full version for a small cost as the video looks really good on the Treo. You just have to make sure you get the correct version. It supports Divx, mpg and will play your mp3s. Although pockettunes that comes free with the device is better for mp3s Stu |
