Basically the phone device doesnt support avi files because there are codecs needed. They way i found was, convert them into.mp4 format (ipod standard), youll have to google software, then play the movies using the samsung media player that came with the phone, (well it came with mmine), if not youll have to find windows mobile compliant codecs, google that see what you get.

Dunno if sp2 makes a difference, but it sometimes does, knowing windows.

but im at a loss now, only thing i could suggest if it doesnt work is change the usb port its plugged into, for mine to work properly i had to put it into a usb 2.0 port rather than a 1.1.

Hope you get a round it, hate it myself when things should be working and they dont.

with the disc that you got with the phone there is some usb drivers on it, install them, i havnt bothered to sync it with my e-mail just with my computerwhen you first connect the phione a list comes up in which you can tick which ones you would like to sync with, i only think i ticked one, and never had a problem with it, but as i said i havnt synced the phone with e-mail so i dont know what the problem is. try searching the forums for a solution as it mite just be a software issue.

However if you do get it working u can transfer files without bluetooth into any directory - including the phones own storage and the hdd.

ok just make sure the sms is .wav, .mp3 dint work for me in the case of sms.

yes you can set custom mp3 ringtones. but unsure if you can set them to different people. havnt tried myself however all my numbers are stored on sim, so i have no reason to see why you cant.

For the custom mp3 tones put the mp3 into 'storage/my documents'. The mp3 should then appear in the ringtone list.

ive just tried putting an image on my phone and when set to homescreen it was centered and in the middle. so cant help u there. only thing i can suggest is that you try and resize the image to the phone screen size. (240x320)

ps yer sorry meant pc hard drive.

ok first move them to your hard drive, for sms tones it needs to be a wav file. you caan find converters over google.

Then once the wave is in 'storage/application data/sounds', it should display in the list when you go to change the tone in settings. i tried with mp3 but didnt work.

ok just put it in, installed fine needed comp restart, but removed phone before it rebooted.

Then it appeared in my computer as TFAT under devices with removable storage.

The only folders you can see are the My documents folder and the MY items folder. suppose this is because the usb storage is designed for use with the hard drive so only the visible files on the hdd can be seen.

Oh is sp2 installed?

ok looks as tho you had the same problem as me, after a while after the code ten stuff, it would connect to the phone, and when you open the disk drive via my computer, no files or folders show.

i just restarted and re-installed the stuff, however youve already done that, all i can suggest is that you remove all instances of usb mass storage from the device manager. and then restart the computer and the phone, but wait till the computer is fully booted before connecting. ive just reformatted so i gotta get it working again. shall keep you informed. hopefully i have the same problem and get it working.

OK got it working so ere it goes.

It wouldnt workl for me as a mp3 format file so it will need converted to wav.

Once done the wav file needs to go into storage/application data/sounds.

Once in there it should become viewable within the list when you go to change the message / alert sound.

Hope this is useful

if you did which directory did you put it in?

Ok for everyone out there, i have got it sorted, took me couple of hours, stupid machines but ere we go,

i got the error device cannot start code (10)
uninstalled and resinstalled the phone as mass storage device but same thing
turned phone on and off and uninstalled mass storage device,
restarted computer
when both rebooted it worked.

read somwhere it had something to do with resources, so it would be either the comp or the phone (probably phone).

Oh and dont go too crazy with the file sizes, tried uploadin 300mb+ but it wouldnt let me, so split into 150mb parts, uploaded and plays fine.

Hope this is useful to anyone

Ok got a full movie on the phone AND it plays. I got mine from 02 and it came with samsungs own media software which plays mp4s, since ipods play mp4s aswell, all you need to do is convert it to ipod standard and put it onto the hdd. Wayhey you have movie player, havnt mastered it yet, but got it working.
