When your battery is completely empty you can´t use the usb connection to charge it since it doesn´t deliver enough current as stated earlier in this thread. You must "plug it into the wall" to charge it.

If possible could you give more space to the calendar events on the homescreen. As it is now it doesn´t display all-day events, only the first appointment.
