QUOTE(jasmer @ Feb 21 2006, 22:00) You can turn the Orange home screen off by going to Settings > Today > Items and de-selecting Orange from the list of things to display on the Today screen. Speeds things up considerably... Al. |

QUOTE(Dave_UK @ Feb 6 2006, 22:28) After reading the threads on this board about the 2nd battery I contacted the executive office and got a shiny new 2nd battery for my M5000 in the post this morning. I also got £30 cash since there wasn't an SD card included in the package. Total time from my initial complaints to resolution was just under a week... Al. |

See the comments on this post for advice on how to extort a good upgrade deal out of the networks. Al. |

QUOTE(buono @ Jan 20 2006, 17:35) Does anyone have some info on how to set up the M5000 and a laptop so that the laptop can use the M5000 as a wireless modem? Well I've got it working with my Apple Powerbook if that's any help... Al. |

QUOTE(sip @ Feb 17 2006, 02:10) Thought you had this solved? Searching on google for "spv m5000" AND "mac os x" brings up a few links... yours is there too, and was going to refer you to it... I've just solved it, and now have my HTC Universal and Apple Powerbook talking happily with each other. |

I give that impression? Nope, definitely not... While I can now register the phone's dial-up networking stack as a Bluetooth Modem, actually trying to use it gives me a "No dial-tone" error. This normally means that you're using the wrong GPRS access point, but in this case I don't think that's the problem as I don't get any indication that a bluetooth connection has actually been made (no icons appear, or any other indication that anything is going on at all). I'm stumped, and have pretty much given up. Al. |

QUOTE(philtech44 @ Dec 9 2005, 14:09) In short, no I haven't heard of anyone that has got this working. I've gone through the normal proceedure and it just doesn't work even after upgrading my OS to 10.4. At this point I'm fairly sure the bluetooth dial-up networking profile on the M5000 is totally borked, although I could be wrong. I've had multiple Nokia and Motorola phones configured and working, so I'm not exactly new at this, if anyone has any suggestions I'm more than happy to try them out... Al. |

QUOTE(barker04 @ Dec 12 2005, 18:22) I rang orange today to try and get an upgrade to the m5000 and was told that it had been discontinued. However when i ring sales on a different phone number im told that its just out of stock After been given the run around since October I managed to pry an M5000 out of Orange in January. They haven't been discontinued. Ask to talk to Retentions, they have more power and seem to be more clued in that your average call centre employee... Al. |

QUOTE(Jasonkruys @ Jan 30 2006, 21:07) The M5000 has sockets for an external WIFI and GSM antennas. The reception for Orange is pitifully poor in my house, very rarely get a signal at all, and I was wondering if there is any kind of external antenna that can be purchased, that is suitable for connaction to the socket provided on the M5000? I've been looking into this as well, and haven't yet found anything. If I do, I'll post here... Al. |

QUOTE(Lama16 @ Jan 7 2006, 23:16) So what i want to confirm who here is an orange customer and not a busniess customer and has the M5000... also how much did you get for it.... I was quoted £180 on a £30 contract After initially being promised an M5000 "...in a week or so" back in October, I finally got my hands on one in January. I'm not a business customer, and Orange upgraded me for free... Al. |

QUOTE(philtech44 @ Dec 9 2005, 11:09) I'm desperate to get my Orange SPV M5000 working as a bluetooth (or even USB) modem... I have Orange World Access, etc. Has anyone managed to do this ?? If so, how?! Unfortunately not! While I've had several people email me with suggestions after my recent blog post (see the comments on the post) I haven't managed to get it working. My conclusion is that the bluetooth stack is borked. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm certainly willing to have a go though... Considering all my previous Nokia phones have worked out of the box I'm actually pretty annoyed by this problem, far more than the fact I can't sync the phone with my laptop properly... Al. |
