The latest version of TT6 (6.1.0) solves this problem of locking up on the Hermes platform. However, ver 6.1 is not posted on the TomTom website, so you'll have to do a bit of fishing around to find it. Forum rules preclude me from posting the link here, but it's just a matter of replacing the TTnav.exe file with an updated one- if you don't already have a copy of TT6 installed, the updated file is of no use to you ;-)

for all you mteor owners,

I read the phone came seriously app locked, has this been resolved?

Your answer is in the above pinned post. The phone can be completely application unlocked, and you should be able to install any certificates or software without limitation. Of course there's no way of knowing what the next ROM upgrade will bring, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it laugh.gif

Strange, I have a MTeoR and and would class myself as a regular user of phone calls, SMS, MMS, Push Email and 3G usage, and i'd class my battery life as good. A fully charged handset on a Monday monring will see me through until Thursday night / Friday morning nicely.

Me too. I have no complaints about battery life- and I am hooked up to 3G pretty much 24/7

Do you have experience of the imate rom?

How did you go back to the HTC ROM after running the Dopod ROM?

No experience of the Imate ROM, sorry. I reflashed the HTC ROM from a file marked as a Qtek ROM (think it's on the XDA-dev FTP site) to revert to the same Mteor ROM as my phone shipped with.

Thetechnogeek are you running the Dopod ROM?

I've tried it- works fine, stable, fast, but for me, no real advantage, as I don't live in an HSDPA enabled area, and for some strange reason, I prefer to run an ROM which "matches" my hardware (I have a Mteor). As far as I can see, there is little difference between the HTC ROM and the DOPOD one from a functional perspective except for the GPRS data app and HSPDA. The Dopod one of course has apps for the front cam which the Mteor does not have.

Personally I'm holding out for the updated HTC ROM (promised "any day now"). If that looks no better, I will use the Dopod one.

Actually, the main reason for sticking with the HTC one is that I don't have the enthusiasm to go thru the whole getting a new activation code from Tomtom (the Dopod ROM changes your device ID) when this ROM does not offer *that* many advantages.

Looks like HSDPA is implemented in hardware on the Mteor. Just need HTC to pull their socks up and get a new ROM to us which fixes all the bugs and lets us run HSDPA without using a 3rd party ROM!

I've installed the files, but I'm not sure if they are running or not. 3G connection speed is as it was before (how do I know if I am in an HSDPA area)?

BYW, I think files installed in the /windows folder will auto-delete on re-boot.

I installed the files too- I needed to remove the HSR attributes before I could see them on the phone. Like you, I could not tell if they were running, and I am not getting higher speed on T-mob 3G, but also have no idea how to tell i'm in a coverage area. Needless to say Tmob CS could not help- it took me long enough to get HSDPA enabled!

Interesting - I'm on T-Mobile with the W&W package and find that web pages load quite quickly on my MTeoR. For example the BBC PDA website opens in 6 seconds and that's certainly quicker than on my previous SP5! However, I've setup my phone with alternative DNS servers rather than the automatically assigned T-Mobile ones, so that might make a difference.

............I butchered the supplied headset and made my own headphone adaptor cable so that I can use my Sony in-ear headphones. smile.gif

Simon.

Simon,

Would you be able to supply us with your alternative DNS settings? I assume you're in the UK?

Mine is ROM version 1.13.251.2 like your, and like you I'm getting good battery life when on the edge of a 3G network.

Agree with Pagemakers though re the dropping calls after a couple of rings- mine does this quite a lot.

3) IE is SLOOOOOW. It sits on connecting/opening for ages.
All in all, a total disappointment from start to finish.

Now, where's expansys's return policy.....

Pagemakers, can I ask which network you're on? Reason I ask is that on 3G voda, my IE is dead quick, connects practically instantly and I get good D/L speeds. But when I switch to my t-mobile W&W sim, the connection is just as you say- it says "locating" and "opening" for ages, and often times out. I've scoured the web for settings etc and think I have them right, so I'm stumped. Fortunately the t-mobile SIM is on PAYG, so I'm not bleeding money on a contract which I can't use.

I agree though, this phone is not great- was released too early IMO. Still, I'm keeping mine over my SP5 as it just about does what I need it to, and I prefer the look and feel.

I have an issue which I didn't notice on my SP5. Every time I activesync, I seem to lose 3-5Mb of memory from my phone. I am certainly not syncing that much data!

I use mNotes, which is the translator between Lotus Notes and MS WM5 to sync my calendar only, which could be a contributing sinner, but typically if I don't have any changes in my diary (eg no new data is written to the phone), each sync still uses a few meg of memory. It's so bad that if I leave the phone plugged in, which triggers a sync every 15min or so, after an hour or more, I run out of memory and the phone crashes.

Anyone have any ideas?

Good to know I am not the only one who has faced this problem, thanks for posting.

I am not at home to test things at the moment, however I was just searching the registry and found the following:

HKLM/Comm/TIACXWLN1/PARMS/TCPIP

One of the values has a value name of DhcpDNS and the value data is the primary and secondary DNS of my ISP.

I assume this means that the DNS is assigned correctly in the device? Unless this relates to the passthrough connection when I am connected to the laptop via activesync at home?

I think you need to be looking at the settings in your router as a first port of call- I suspect what you're looking at is indeed settings for passthru. Remember that when you're connected to a router with NAT (as most are), it's the router that's doing the DNS resolution, not your phone.

Your router was looking at itself for dns resolution?

Yup, settings kindly provided by the autosetup. Weirdly, the computer connection worked, but the phone one did not. Further digging reveals that the standard XP build looks at the secondary DNS pretty quickly if it draws a blank from the primary DNS, but smartphones hang on the primary DNS. That's my understanding at least.

I had exactly the same problem with my SP5, and went through many of the same attempts to resolve. I eventually pinned it down to a setting in my router (there was nothing wrong with the settings in my phone). The best way I can put this is to ensure the DNS settings of your router are *not* set to any of your NAT local addresses- in essence this means putting the settings for your ISP in the DNS boxes in your router settings, and making sure those settings do not contain "local" addresses.

Thus, for mine, my primary DNS *was* set to 192.168.0.1 (a local NAT address). When I changed it to 194.72.9.38 (primary) and 62.6.40.162 (secondary) as instructed by my ISP (BT), it all started working. What seemed to happen was the phone would get into an endless loop trying to look up an address which was actually that of the router rather than a genuine DNS server.

Hope this makes sense, and helps. Shout if I'm speaking gobbledegook

Edit: If your phone is connecting OK to your router, there's nothing wrong with your phone settings, as long as you can actually exchnage data with the router. You could try connecting to 192.168.0.1 (assuming this is your local router address)- if you router login screen appears on your phone, you have no problems with the phone settings

I have a new MtEOR and I've found an interesting problem with Bluetooth headsets. When I use my Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970, which is a stereo bluetooth headset, to make calls, the call is disconnected after about 30 seconds and the phone drops off the network (display says "No Service").

I have to use the Connection Manager to turn off the phone radio and then on again to get back onto the network. (trying to use Phone settings to find a network totally hangs the phone).

This is 100% reproduceable - happens EVERY time.

When making calls without the headset, this problem is not present.

I doubt this is a problem with my specifik headset - it works fine with my other phone, a Qtek 9100.

Anyone else seen this?

I've not had this problem with my (albeit mono) Nokia bluetooth headset

I was so tickled with this progress for the Mteor, I actually tried letting HTC customer support know we'd found a solution. As soon as they heard it involved editing the registry with a non-HTC app, the guy I was speaking to (1) lost interest, (2) said that there was no way HTC could recommend a "non-approved" solution and (3) we'd void our warranty by doing this. I argued the point with (3), but gave up in disappointment. He also said there was no word on the ROM update as yet.

So once again, thanks to the internet and this forum for finding the solution that manufacturers obviously don't want us to know laugh.gif

Oh, and BTW, we managed to drag and drop through the File Explore function rather nicely, straight onto our MTeoR!

Drag and drop- didn't try that. I guess the exact reg settings which need to be changed depend on the application? I have changed mine as in my post above, and works fine for unsigned apps now.

I think the biggest hurdle here was finding a reg editor which the Mteor would listen to, so credit to whoever wrote regeditSTG2!

OK, we have an application unlock solution for the Mteor at last.

You need to use the attached reg editor.

1. Copy the regeditSTG2.exe to the root directory of your storage card using a DIRECT card reader/writer FROM YOUR PC. You CANNOT copy this file to your phone using the explore option from activesync. If you do not have a microSD reader/writer for your PC, you're out of luck, sorry.

2. Put the microSD back in your phone, and open regeditSTG2 from file manager.

3. Change the following values as per previous WM5 installations

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001001 = 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\00001005 = 40

That's it, you're done. I can now run unsigned apps on my phone.

Yipee!

Works OK on my Mteor, but I think I have a lesser manifestation of the same problem- the voice sometimes cuts out half way thru an instruction, but then come back a few minutes later. I've found it irritating but not a major issue. Sorry, don't have any ideas for a fix.

Have you tried emailing HTC directly (rather than going thru the website)? I have had much more luck with this than using the weblink. You can try if you haven't- the address is callservice@htceurope.com. Given that the misadvertising issue lies with HTC (and their website STILL states quad-band EDGE and triband 3G), they should make good on your loss. If you were based in the UK, you could take it up with trading standards, which tends to get things resolved pretty quick, but being based in the US, you might find yourself in a bit of a grey area unsure.gif

If HTC don't take down their misinformation on the Mteor in the next day or two, I plan to contact TS myself anyway. Sounds a bit pedantic, but I have been burnt too, and I do find it somewhat vexing that they're prepared to admit their mistakes by email support, but not actually do anything to fix the original source of error. Grrr. mad.gif

Edit: If your US supplier has quad-band EDGE on their website, your on a good footing. This effectively states that the phone supports 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz GSM, which it does not. EDGE is the GSM GPRS variant, so they are misadvertising. The phone also does not support triband UMTS, only 2100MHz UMTS, so that's misadvertsing too
