I'm also looking at this:

Power off the phone and unplug it from the computer.
1. Press and hold soft1 and soft2 keys.
2. Press and hold power button for around 1 to 1.5 seconds. Release power button. Keep hold soft1 and soft2 keys.
3. Later, screen shoould show instructions to ask user to press '0' key to reset to factory default.
4. Press '0' within the timeout period, which is only several seconds only.
5. If no instruction is shown on the screen, repeat steps 1 to 4.
The timing is sensitive.

But which are the soft1 and soft2 buttons? You mean numbers 1 and 2 ? Or the contacts/msging buttons ?

I have an I-Mate SP5. I'd like to completely (hard?) reset it. I want to wipe it so that it's back to how it was when I bought it.

I goto Start > Accessories > but there is no "Clear Storage" there as I'm told.

Advice appreciated - thanks !

Seems I was missing:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Security\Policies\Policies
-> Add new value "0000101b": Dword = 1

Alls good now.

I've tried what's in that thread for unlocking. I still get error:
"Cant switch to Mass Storage USB drive, error57"

Any suggestions?

So the new ROM for the SP5 updates PIE to support frames, among other things.

I understand updating my ROM would format my device and I'd have to start from scratch?

What I'd like to do is get the improved PIE without having to update my ROM.

Is this possible?

Cheers

Do I need to turn on Bluetooth manually or will the program turn it on/off each time as required ?

Still not had a chance to try this .. battling with router / firewall issues which I seem to be getting through.

I'll give it a try later - thanks.

I have problems with PIE loading certain websites and rendering forms / javascript forms correctly. Would this be corrected in the updated versions?

Can anyone suggest a browser whcih allows this? Opera Mini is grand, but it sorta puts it's own take on the webpage.

I previously had a SE K750i which with the aid of MyPhoneExplorer allowed me to view/edit/delete/send texts from my desktop while my phone was attached.

Is there a method of doing this with my I-Mate SP5? It's horrible to have to pick it up to view / send texts when I'm at my PC and it's connected.

Cheers

I'm looking to backup my entire device so that I can do a hard reset and basically just sync it up again so it's identical (bar the updates obviously) to how it was before.

I don't have MS Outlook and have no desire to get it.

Also, is it possible to even backup sim contacts without having outlook (and without buying a sim reader or something)

Is this possible ?

Seeing a couple of good programs & tweaks around here, but how do I install from the .cab files? Do I extract on my PC before copying? Do I just run them? Do I open them with another program?

Cheers

Assume it leaves your simcard untouched aswell?

If you have your phone security code protected, can someone still come along, hold those buttons in and wipe your data ?
