I had this problem when I first installed BB Connect 4 and found a post somewhere (can't for the life of me find it again otherwise I would put up the link) which mentioned a registry key that you needed to change.

I recently bricked my Vario III and had to re-install everything, including the registry tweak and, by a very convoluted process, managed to find it again. The key I changed was:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/InternetSettings

EnableAutoDetect=1 (it was set to 0 before)

and it fixed the browsing problem with Internet Explorer.

I started using Opera Mini whilst looking for a fix for this last time and don't actually use IE much now but I like to have it working in case any other application needs to use it.

Hope this helps and apologies for not crediting the original poster who found this.

I was having the same problems described by The Doctor, i.e. music dropping out every few seconds while playing over a bluetooth stereo headset (BT Jabra 620s) and tried the same tweaks as mentioned above without seeing a real improvement.

I then tried the registry tweak described in this post:

http://www.modaco.com/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=762495

and all is well. I have just listened to an entire two tracks without a single skip. Kudos to jimbouk as he definitely solved it for me.

I had problems with 3G on Monday (30/10) where I kept losing all traces of a signal but it seemed fine yesterday and today. This was in central London (Westminster). Asked about this with T-Mob CS but they had no idea and suggested that if it keeps happening to call back.

To get 24-hour clock, go to Start/Settings/System/Regional Settings and on the Time tab, change the time style from H:mm:ss to HH:mm:ss. I don't know how anyone is meant to find this but it would have been much easier to have a drop-down menu with 12-hour or 24-hour as options if anyone from MS Mobile development reads this forum.

As for getting your device working with a mac, I would be inclined to try Missing Sync from markspace.com but I have never used it.

I also have very poor battery life on my Vario II and it is definitely a feature of these incredible devices but I accept it as a necessary evil to have to constantly recharge the thing.

Good luck with the rest.

After about 7 attempts to get HSDPA added to my account, I finally got it done whilst talking to T-Mob tech support about a dead Blackberry. We were waiting for the Blackberry to reset itself and I just mentioned in passing that my Vario II was not reaching the connection speeds I was expecting from the new HSDPA-enabled 3G network. The guy checked my postcode and said that there was no reason why that should be. He then checked my account and realised that HSDPA was not enabled and just switched it on without the merest quibble. He said it was free of charge and there is no reason not to have it enabled.

I couldn't believe how it easy it was in the end and it just goes to show that you speak to someone with a little technical know-how and their finger on the account-enabling button and things get done. My faith is restored in T-Mob customer services but I wish I had a direct line to technical support rather than having to wade through the scripted call centre rubbish beforehand.

Just ran a speed test at dslreports.com/mspeed and getting a fairly regular 887Kbps with only two bars of reception. Happy now.

Got the same thing happening on my Vario II. It has been happening ever since I set the thing up even when I had no extra software loaded on and I am not using the supplied case. Definitely a software glitch if you ask me.

I wouldn't reckon on T-Mobile having a fix as I am having difficulty even convincing their CS staff that the thing exists. They keep talking to me about the Compact II but I suppose this is because the device is relatively new.

biggrin.gif Got mine added too! Lucky on this! - added first try @CS

Was <400kb/s before, now 800kb/s+ biggrin.gif (2 bars 3G)

Best reliable speed tester I found www.dslreports.com/mspeed

Still getting the run around with T-Mob CS and being told that the HSDPA is only available with W&W Pro for an extra charge. Is there a particular option number to try? I have been through faults and the 6 zeros once you hit the automated response but no luck.
UPDATE: They are sticking to their guns as I am now on my fourth different person and they are still telling me that it is only available with W&W Pro for a extra few quid a month.

Does anyone know whether A2DP was included in the latest o2 ROM update?

A comment above seems to imply that it wasn't and I can't find any information about it on the o2 site.

I use a WPA pre-shared key on my Exec and wireless network with no problem. I just turned on the wifi on the Exec and when it prompted me to put in the network key, I typed in the passphrase and it connected up first time.

If this doesn't work automatically, you might have to configure things manually. To see the settings for the wireless network, turn on the wifi function on the Exec and then go to Start>Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Wireless. You should see you access point name and if you tap and hold the name, you should get to the area where you can change your network key and encryption settings.

I use a Belkin Wireless-G router but I have had big problems connecting up to Linksys routers and never worked out why this should be. For some reason, with Linksys routers, the ip address does not get assigned by DHCP properly and you have to put all the settings in manually. To do this, get the settings for you network from another computer (in Windows, go to a command prompt and type in ipconfig /all to see the ip address and dns settings you need). On your Exec, go to Start>Settings>Connections>Network Cards>Network Adapters and tap the tiacxwln entry to change its settings. Change it to use a specific ip address based on the one from your computer but with a different last octet that you know is not already in use. On the name servers tab, put in the DNS server addresses you got from ipconfig on your Windows PC.

Sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs but you never know what level people are working at.

I am trying to get the same thing working myself using an O2 XDA Exec and a iBook G4 but so far have only managed to get a connection established and no data transfer.

I used the advice from this website:

http://homepage.mac.com/jrc/contrib/tzones/

and the modem scripts from this one:

http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html

I'd be interested to hear if you get it working as I am stuck with the iBook saying that there is "no carrier" even though I know my account is set up for data access.

Not much to suggest but I have an O2 XDA Exec and have connected successfully to my Belkin wireless router at home (WPA) and to the Cisco wireless router at work (no encryption) but, try as I might, I cannot connect to my parents Linksys router using 128-bit WEP.

I even tried turning off the encryption and it still wouldn't connect to the Linksys router. If encryption is on, it just keeps rejecting the key and if there is no encryption, it just sits trying to connect indefinitely. I tried manually setting the IP address and stuff but then it connects to the network without any internet access.

I'll be watching this post to see whether anyone has any suggestions.

I couldn't replicate this on my MDA III (Blue Angel) as Task Manager does not show the phone application even when it's running (probably to avoid exactly this problem). Were u using the Task Manager that comes with the XDA Exec?
*

Yes, I am using the task manager app. that comes with the XDA Exec. Strangely, when I look now, there are two Phone entries in the Task Manager and I can switch to either one. One is showing a recent call list and the other is the last phone keypad view I used to make a call.

I killed the phone task to free up memory on my XDA Exec and then couldn't get the phone keypad to appear. The phone was working but functionality was severely impaired by having no access to phone-type buttons. Has anyone else experienced this?

I got the thing working again by a soft reset but it is a bit easy to do this inadvertently.

btw This device is great but it is crying out for push email

Just to finish this off I have had my phone replaced at the Orange shop for the second time now.

Just have to see how long this one lasts!

I will certainly look into this as it is a possibility I hadn't thought of.

The only thing is that I had been successfully charging the phone for weeks beforehand from all sources including the USB port.

I have tried mains, usb port and car charging and none of them work.

The phone is going back to the shop tomorrow to try another replacement but this will be the last time I do this. It must be something I am doing if nobody else has experienced this problem but I cannot think what it is.

I am on my second MPx200 and the same thing has now happened to the second phone as happened to the first one.

I have been happily using the second phone for a couple of weeks and now when I try to plug it in to recharge, nothing happens. It will sync with Outlook no problem but will not charge.

I have tried a number of things including rebooting and even a hard reset but nothing will make it charge.

The only thing that has happened on both occasions is that I have left the phone for a couple of days without charging it, although, there was still a bar of battery on each phone even after that so they hadn't run completely dry.

The local Orange shop swapped the first phone on a 28-day replacement deal but I can't keep doing this every couple of weeks. Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody have any suggestions that might fix it?
