A lot of effort is going in to get Google's mobile OS, Android, running on other HTC Devices. Quite a few phones can now run a build of Android with limited functionality. However, with the G1 right around the corner, we aim to get Android running fully! www.htc-android.com is a forum where one can discuss and read up on how to get Android running on various HTC devices. Including the Kaiser, Touch Dual, and more.. Posted this in the news section, but not sure if that worked. lol |

Hey, i have a Touch Dual, and im really happy about it, however, there is one thing that bugs me beyond mad! When i turn of the display (hit the power button), the phone goes back to the home screen when i turn the display back on! So its hopelessly useless using PointUI, or Slide2Unlock, or using Java apps, because when the display times out and turns off, the phone forces back to the Home Screen! Is there some well hidden setting ive missed, or is it a registry value i can edit? Cheers! |

Its just a slight anoyance really, but if i write an SMS with the qwerty keyboard, and hit "Send", and then close the keyboard, i cant go back to the homescreen, if i press the home-button or the back button (to get to the home screen), the phone just freezes. The solution is to expand the keyboard, and close it again. Is this a comon problem or is it my device? If so, is it something a soft/hard reset should fix? |

Ive set up a my g-mail account on my vox. However, when i recieve an email, the "E-Mail" field on the home screen remains as "E-mail (0)". On WM5, the name of the e-mail account would show with the amount of unread messages. Any way to get this on WM6 as well? Cheers! |

Well, i just got the Vox (yay!) and im more or less extremely satisfied with it! Great phone! Only one question.. At the home screen i can see "SMS", "MMS" and "E-Mail".. the problem is that ive set up my google account on the phone, and whenever i get an e-mail the e-mail field at my home screen still shows E-mail (0). For some reason, it seems that it isnt linked to the gmail account? On my previous WM5.0 phones, whenever i set up an e-mail account and i got an email, it would say for example: "Gmail (2)".. any way to make this work? Cheers! |

I recently started up a forum in connection with my website, but I am having a really hard time getting people to use it. So far ive got 3 members, out of which two are active, and one of them being me. Anyone got some advice on content, or anything else that I can do to make the forum attractive? Ive read countless guides and even written one myself, so maybe time is the only solution. But in case anyone here have some new light to shine, well.. I could use it Check out the forum at http://forum.connect-utb.com MOdaco rocks! |

Alittle update (been using my entire day on this)! I tried to use just a regular Plantronics Discovery 655 with my phone, and guess what? It didnt work either. So the problem is not A2DP related. I then reset my phone to factory settings and tried again. Still no luck! I really dont get this! I make\recieve a call, i answer (either with the phone or by pressing the button on the handsfree), the handsfree makes a little beep to confirm that the call has been answered, but no sound. Not from the phone's speaker, and not from the handsfree either. Anyone? Please! |

Hey! A few weeks ago i tested a a Motorola A2DP headset with my Qtek 8500. Music and system sounds play perfectly, but for some reason, when making calls, there is no sound at all, and the person on the other end doesnt hear me either, regardless if im talking into the phone or to the headset. I Figured this was a fault with the Motorola Headset. But today, i got myself a Nokia BH-501, and the same problem is still there. Please, can anyone help? Ive tried with my HTC TyTN as well, but the same damn thing occurs with that one too! Cheers! |

Hey! I have this REALLY annoying problem with my phone. I cant seem to copy video files, pictures*, or other larger files from my memory card. Pictures sometimes work though, its strange. The files gets copied if they are located on the phone and not the memory card. I can also copy the files using the explorer on the phone, however, some files cannot be accessed.. Using a Kingston MicroSD 512mb card. Any idea on what do do? Cheers! |

Hey! Today, something really weird suddenly happened. You know the numbered hotkeys you can use when for instance you go to message functions, then you can press 1 for SMS, 2 for MMS, etc.. Now all of a sudden there are letters instead, rendering the keys useless.. So it says A for SMS, B for MMS instead.. However, when i try to press any key on the phone, it doesnt work.. Anyone know whats up here? Cheers! |

Just wondering: Right now i have one of the analog clocks on my external Qtek 8500 display since i dont like any of the digital ones. Still, its hard to tell the exact time with the analoges, and I was wondering if its possible to make more clocks? |

I dont have a screen protector, and probably wont get one, but is the Qtek 8500 built so that clapping the phone may actually damage it if you dont do it smoothly? I also get the circular imprint, but thats it really, its easy to wipe clean, but if any other damge occurs, i want to be more carefull.. |

im very happy with my Qtek 8500, but I have a bug which im not sure is due to a hardware malfunction, or a software bug. Sometimes when i open the phone, the display is totally blank (white), or the content is displaced (homescreen moved slightly to the left so you cant see it all), or the display is totally distorted (brightness is very high). Only way to fix it is to close and open the phone again. Anyone else experienced this or should i go back to the store and demand a new phone? Also, my phone language is Norwegian, and when there is an incomming call, the external display is trying to show "Inkommende samtale", but its to long, so it just shows "Inkommende samta" or something. Hope it gets fixed Cheers! |

No probs although phone is not with me right now so can't tell you what the back light is without checking (don't notice these things...). 1. Battery life has been good but not amazing - about the same as my old Razr or C600 (never had a sp5 which has wifi which will affect things). I am getting about 2 days with a few calls and lots of playing around with it, bit of bluetooth and push email enabled etc. 2. Camera is again ok for MMS and small snapshots - 1.3m, so was as my Razr. Can't remember compared to my C600. Nowhere near as good as my w810i which took decent photos (but that's not surprising!) 3. Build quality is very good. no creaks or loose parts and well put together. Sound quality good and reception seems pretty good. Keypad not as good as Razrs but seems pretty solid and responsive. 4. Good response. I have loaded it with software and plug ins, and it hasn't crashed once or lagged excessively. Bit of timer when you first load something but not for long and once programs are loaded they come up pretty quickly thereafter so once you have checked inbox or calendar, it flashes up quickly. Pure phone (as opposed to program) functions are sharp and lag free. 5. Why 1-6? I would rate it 5. It would get a 6 if the MMS wasn't such a PITA! I seem now to be able to send MMS, but the phone still tells me the MMS was unsuccessful, and also I can't seem to receive. Otherwise it has been great. Push email has been flawless. Really good. Tried mail2web and now 4smartphone using my gmail. I am also syncing my gmail calendar with Outlook using the connector I found on msmobiles so I have my GCal on there also! Excellent. Thanks loads for the info! |

Note: The posted picture (the first post in this thread) of the black Qtek 8500 is the old design version which has been updated.. the final design is different, where two of the three "rings" have been removed. And the music buttons on the front are now in a shiny silver like finish, instead of matt black. They have also slightly changed the materials the keypad is made of. But i am confused as to what is was, and what it is now.. Think it was teflon or something, now its some fancy, more robust and better looking stuff.. Ive attached some images of the final version, which in my opnion looks better, although they have supposedly changed the key-backlight from blue to white. Me being a blue-light lover, am slightly dissapointed. At any rate, i favor, by far, the black version of the phone.. very much looking forward to it. |

Well, I am so anxious to give this phone a spin. Therefore, if you dont mind, i have some questions about the device as well 1: First, and most important. How is the battery life? Its got a Litium-Ion 750 mAH, while the Qtek 8310 (or SP5m) got a a Litium-Ion 1050 mAH, and still doesnt last more then 1-3 days during normal use. Does the Qtek 8500 appear to be significantly poorer? 2: How is the camera compared to SP5m (Qtek 8310)? I know Qtek 8500 is fitted with improved camera electronics, just curious as to how much better it actually is. 3: How is the build quality? Are there any hints of "bad-sounds" when using the device? 4: How responsive is the phone? Any noticable lag in the menues etc? (The phone is fitted with the same CPU as the Qtek 8310, so shouldnt be a problem though 5: On a scale from 1-6, how would you rate the phone? and why? EDIT: Oh and i almost forgot the nearly most important question! What color is the keypad-backlight? Thanks so much! |

Thanks for the update, however, the question remains about what the final specifications on the Qtek 8500 will be. 1,3mp camera or 2mp camera? Flash or no flash, as both are stated around the web! |

Alright, ive finally decided to register here and try to figure this whole mess regarding the HTC Startrek, a.k.a i-mate smartflip, a.k.a Qtek 8500. Now, i bet you are wondering, why is this phone so mysterious? Well, firstly, no one are certain of the final specifications. Hmm.. how can i say this? Il just take it from the beginning of my "investigation".. Firstly, i googled the device and found the following specifications Alright, thats not really impressive. 65k colors aint alot, the K750i got 256k. 1,3MP camera is alright, but nothing spectacular either. Oh well. Then, by a co-incident, i bumped into the dutch review of the phone here which confirmed the specifications, however, in the sumary, it says " QUOTE We were surprised to find only 64MB ROM and not the 128MB ROM we expected. Our sources tell us that later this year there might be a second release of this phone that includes 128MB ROM. So i got interested.. a second release? I googled some more and found this QUOTE and have quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE, a QVGA, 320 x 240 LCD, Bluetooth, a two megapixel digital camera (with flash), 64MB of RAM, up to 128MB of ROM 2mp camera? QVGA LCD display? hmmm.. Ok, i continued to google a bit on that one and found similar specifications here and here Then, lastly i read the italin review (translated to english through babelfish) here , which put alot of emphasis on the fact that the model was just a preview product, and the phone has already changed since its inital announcement. For instance, the keys are now in aluminium, layered with teflon to ensure a softer feeling. So, can anyone shed some more light on this? Because i frankly have no idea what to expect. If the phone comes with a decent 2mp camera, and maybe 256k colors, its perfect! (although 3G and video calling would have been appreciated). Thanks! |
