Keep in mind that according to a ATTWS tech, "any changes made to the phone will void your warranty."

I suppose you could be anal and say that adding your own custom wallpaper to the phone constitutes changing it, but if I may be allowed to read into it, I think this was meant as any ROM installed on the phone not sanctioned by ATTWS will void the warranty. sad.gif

And I got this responce when asking about the possibility of a WM 2003 OS upgrade.
"Since the phone is only one month old, there are no plans to upgrade it." sad.gif

Hmmm... I wonder what Moto would say about using the Generic ROM. :?

Oh, earlier this week.

Doh, I miss read your post thinking you said last week, and I knew the Generic ROM didn't come out till a few days ago.

Are you ok with the fact that your warranty is now voided? sad.gif

One unfortunate thing to keep in mind is that for some odd and very strange reason, you cannot assign a Contact specific ringtone off of the SD card, those need to be in the local phones memory.

Probably some jackass who was part of developing the phone thought it would be a funny joke on everyone who bought it.

I have also recently learned that the generic firmware for the MPx200 has the MMS client built into it.

Makes me wonder if Jataayu is mistaken' and maybe it is actually ATTWS fault that we US users don't any MMS. :x

I am so temped to install the generic build, but don't want to screw my phone either. sad.gif

I sent an e-mail to Jataayu the other day.

Basically, I said that I had learned that their software was being used on the European version of the MPx200 and that I'd heard of some people saying they had a version, but didn't want to break any laws by putting it on the internet.
And I also asked if they new when the software would be made available for said purpose.

Their reply was that the choice to ship the software on the MPx200 was up to Motorola, and any further inquiries should be addressed to them.

The person that replied to me didn't even respond to the statement about putting the software on the internet.
I'm not sure if that is good or bad. :?

One option, although, not a perfect fix, is to also store the people that most frequently call you in the SIM card.

Like I said, it's not perfect becuase, 1, you have to take an extra step when storing name's and numbers in your phone, and 2, the SIM card is limited to 250 numbers, so you'll have to pick and choose if you have more than that in your Contacts database.

For me, this has allowed the contact specific ring tone option to function properly most of the time.

You can just import directly from the Contacts database, but just so you know, the name associated with the number in the SIM doesn't have to match the one in the Contacts database, just the number needs to.

Just to clarify, the "FlipLogo" reg value is actually more of a on/off kinda' thing.

So, a value of "0" the external LCD will not show the logo, and a value of "1" the LCD will show the logo.

Coming from a natural point of view, all the images made for use on the phone will need to be inverted to be oriented correctly when someone is using the phone.

Which moderator should I contact with the question?

I'm new here, so I'm not familiar with which moderator's frequent which parts of the forum.

Don't want to bark up the wrong tree so to speak.

Don't get me wrong here, becuase I wouldn't want anyone to do anything that 1, could risk thier membership here, and 2, possibly be seen or interpreted as a illegal act.
But you would think, that a program that was given' away with the purchase of a hardware product, it wouldn't matter much if it was used on the same product that just happend' to not come with it.
Unfortuanatly, those damn copyright's can be tricky when it comes to things like this.

At the same time, like AlphaFlux said, the copy he has doesn't appear to have any obvious copyright associated with it at all. :|

Oh, real quick Sophist, the software package you have, since you are in Hong Kong, I'm guessing the software was meant to be used in Hong Kong, what language is it written in? Or should I say, what language does it display when you use the program?

Well that just fricken' figures.

And I find it kinda' odd since there are menu listings in the phone which allow you to enter all the required information for a dial up internet service provider account.
I guess they had to rub it in. wink.gif

Thanks for the input.

I'm trying to figure out how to use a dial up account on my US MPx200.

I've got all the appropriate information in the dial up settings, and when I go to IE, the signal indicator switches to the apposing arrows instead of the "G" symbol making me think it is trying to use it, but it just sits there for a decent amount of time then error's out.
Usually with a generic "Unable to connect." error.

Am I going about this wrong, or is it meant for a different purpose?

Any idea's are welcome.

Thanks.

Thanks for the informative reply AlphaFlux.

It's nice to know what app is being used for the European implimentation.

I also fully understand your reservations about posting the client.
I wouldn't want to get band over anything either.

Hopefully, something will work out so that we American's can give it a try.

I was just looking through the registry on my MPx200 and found a entry that was for the SMS portion.
Under the "Broadcast" key, there is a String of "AppName" with a value of "Windowstmail.exe"

Makes me wonder if the MMS client on the European MPx200 could be found this way?

The values I found are in the registry as fallows.

but hopefully someone will work out a way to.

I'm guessing you were syncing with a SmartPhone 2002 device?
Makes me wonder with the new Outlook being 2003, if SmartPhone 2003 would have this tie in. :?

I guess we can hope.
At the same time, those of use with 2002 devices are probably up a creak since the chances of the service providers releasing a update to 2003 appear to be slim. sad.gif

I wonder if it really has the 200Mhz processor that I've seen a few write ups state it has?

It seems everyone wanted/hoped the MPx200 would have a 200Mhz processor but it came out with a 132Mhz chip.

Would be interesting to know for sure.

I have a US version of the MPx200 running on AT&T's service, and thus have no MMS capabilities. Old news I know.

I don't know how the UK version impliments MMS, but I was curious as to anyone's speculation if it would be possible to copy the app, if it is a app, out of the UK version and install it in the US version?

Just a theory here, may be completely bogus, but doesn't hurt to ask right?

Thanks for reading.

Too bad they are incorrect about one small fact regarding the phone.

It does have a handsfree speaker phone.

I'm not sure if it can compete with the Nextel phone's speaker phone option, but it does have one.
