I had my Diamond for about a month. Especially after the 1.93 update it worked really nice. Even GPS started working ok without lag. I would have kept it, if it weren't for the battery. If I didn't use it for other than talk + sms, I could go through a day and still have 75% or something like that left. But the moment it has to work, it spends a heckuvalot of energy producing heat, so 45-60 minutes of usage during the day and I found it impossible to make it last till bedtime.

Very sad having to give it up, but I guess that's life. Nice to know it is still useable to a lot of you guys. Now I'm back on my N95 8GB and iPhone 3G...

I have done the with/without back plate test and there is no difference whatsoever on my Diamond. I copied the monitor photo test posted here and both my pictures looks like the one without the back plate on.

I wonder if they have changed the dust cover material already, or the bad pictures are just a result of finger prints on the cover?

If the O2 logo comes off, they can make a few bucks selling these. Especially if it isn't a fingerprint magnet like the original back plate.

Very, very interesting. Any hints on where to look for pics taken with the P750 cam? Could still be the deal breaker for me...

Nice, if it can be used as a VGA. Personally I doubt it and then I can't see any benefits in having the VGA instead of QVGA, on the contrary.

Ok. And any thought on the issue if this is the closest thing MS have to the N95 8GB right now?

Hi Joost39. Nice to see you here. You know me as SBC smile.gif

Haven't been keeping up with MS devices since the Nokia N95 revolutionized my world, and the TyTN II failed my expectations (slow, bad cam). But as most of you here surely know, Symbian seems to have committed suicide a few days ago by locking their smartphones to prevent the users from using free software, so it looks like the end of my S60 adventure.

The P750 looks very nice, although I think the screen could have been a bit larger. There certainly are space for it. Would you say this is the MS worlds answer to the Nokia N95 8GB or should I look elsewhere? A slider would be great, but for T9, not qwerty. Too big and unhandy. I most likely will be replacing my device by mid year...

The speed of TomTom is also important to me, because it seems to me like devices are getting slower, not faster. My HTC Magician ran TT like a dream, but since then the frame rate looks to be going down, for some reason. I have searched YouTube for vids of the P750 running TT but in vain. If the author of this article have the time, it could be rather interesting.

Just use the original Microsoft Powertoy. It works a treat on the Vox, as well as almost every other MS Mobile device smile.gif

Update:
I have tried out all the latest Typhoon ROMs and they all have the same problem, including the SP3 ROM. Looks like my last chance is the old 4.1.1.4 ROM, which no doubt has a lot of other problems sad.gif

Anyone got the latest info on this?

I am trying to fix this problem on my gf's C500, but no newer ROM seems to be working. I have tried 4.2.1.5 and 4.2.5.2, as well as SP3 2.1.331, and still the problem persists.

Btw this problem happens several times each day, regardless of flightmode settings.

Hi guys

I haven't really been around here since I sold my C500 some 15 months ago, but now I need your help. My gf still has her SPV C500 and the bug that makes her sound like Darth Vader to the person on the other end of the line, is driving her nuts...

1. I seem to recall something about this bug being specific to a certain Orange ROM, right? So if I wanna get rid of this bug, will I have to downgrade to an older ROM, or is there a newer ROM available with this bug fixed?

2. If I have to downgrade, what functionality will she loose? Wasn't there something about MMS and attaching sound clips, that only got to work in this version? And some BT functionality?

3. Is there a better ROM for the Typhoon than the ones available from Orange with Danish language support? What do you guys use?

Thanks a lot for helping me out. I can't even begin to imagine how much reading I would have to do, to get this knowledge without your help mellow.gif

Not many GPS programs support Australia. I am rather sure TomTom doesn't, but try checking out Destinator @ http://www.destinator1.com

Be carefull! I bet you this is a fraud. The seller have only 5 feedbacks, so give your money to charity or something else instead, because you will never see this card anyway.

I don't have a C500 myself any longer, but I have read somewhere that you'll need a file called CurrentMap.dat inside this folder \storage\my documents\tomtom. For some reason TT5 doesn't (always) create this file by itself? A backup of that file from the old TT should be ok, though...

WM2005 does indeed run on the Typhoon, but only a select few. The ROM is paired with these and won't run on a normal Typhoon.

MS are getting wise to the idea of ROM copying, so they have protected this one rather well...

Guys... A new ROM has been released today! It's the Danish 4.2.4.1 smile.gif Since I don't have a Typhoon myself, I can't tell you anything about it right now, though.

Looking at the build number tells us it should be an official release of the leaked UK ROM, but no doubt the Danish Typhoon owners in here will soon give you an update...

I've had similar problems. Turned out to be SD related, believe it or not! Try pulling your storage card for a day or so, to see if that helps.

QUOTE(Paul [MVP)
,Jun 3 2005, 09:21]It seems I mistakenly assumed everyone who wanted to support the site would want all the super-cool Plus stuff.

Would a lowered tiered Plus option, maybe that did something like just removing the ads, be popular? Or should I just add a 'donate' button?

Both options sounds nice. You don't need to offer much, to get donations from friendly users.

On my-symbian you can buy software through Paypal. You can also 'buy' support through the same channels for $10. When you do, you get to download a jpg with 'thanks for supporting this site'. Also your avatar is updated with 'Site supporter' and golden coins, where the activity-stars used to be. That way my-symbian shows they appreciate the support, and it doesn't them cost anything.

Personally, I like the my-symbian way. It's quick and easy (important) and you don't have to pay for services, you may not have any use for. You simply support a site you like and you get to decide the amount yourself. If $10 is not enough for you, just 'buy' another support jpg smile.gif

QUOTE(asphire23 @ Jun 4 2005, 02:08)
I don't get it. How could someone who afford to buy a smartphone then doesn't want to purchase a service that is cost way less than it's value, at 1/10th of a smartphone's price.

That is your point of view. Obviously not everyone agrees, or this sites founder would be a very rich man by now smile.gif

As I stated earlier, most of us visit more sites than this single one. So while you may support this one, I guarantee that someone else in here support other sites, that you visit without paying for. That's just the way it is, and the way it should be. Together we keep a LOT of great sites going smile.gif

Excuse me? Hard to understand the text on that page...

.exe backups are a very good idea. I always use it on my PPC.

Anyone tried this app out yet? Sprite is OK, but it has a few bugs they won't be bothered to fix - Handango returned my money for that exact reason (hangs when restoring registry on a system with Chronos/CityTime Alarms installed). I don't have an MS Smartphone myself anymore, but I know a few ppl that could use a reliable backup prg...

I don't need cheap T-shirts, meetings in the UK (I am a 'foreigner', like so many others), dictionaries, magazines or whatever. But from time to time, I consider supporting this site, as I was a supporter of my-symbian, when I had an UIQ device. My-symbian asks for a $10 donation, and that's fine for most people. But the $46 here is way too high, unless you are going for the benefits instead of just trying to help out. Increasing the price even more does not help!

Please remember that a lot of us visit and support many message boards on a regular basis, so if you want our financial support, it has got to be on a reasonable level.

Hello smile.gif

This is my first post. So be gently with me. I have had an SPV C500 for a few weeks now having owned an original SPV before that.

The ROM update which is leaked (if it even is?) and was mentioned above looks well dodgy to me, no Orange Logo or anything. So I don't think I will be trying it. For reference:

Lets hope the official one is soon.

Mike
*

That screenshot is exactly the same as the one you get when running 4.1.1.4, and I believe we have that one established as being original? Only difference is the build number of the update utility, and that hardly qualifies as a disqualifier smile.gif

EDIT: I haven't got enough knowledge on the legal aspect of this to say if it's warez or not in my own country, let alone the entire planet. But I am not even a C500 owner anymore, so I know for sure I won't be running illegal software on MY phone smile.gif I just stumbled across this new ROM and was qurious to find out if it is indeed the new Orange UK ROM everyone has been waiting for...?

Granted, if Orange UK doesn't hook us up with a link very soon, this could very well be illegal software, so beware!
