All fixed up now - but I find one error in the eT9 list of words that doesn't come from my fumblings. When I want the word 'for' it always comes up with 'dor' as the default. Since this is an archaic word, at best, I want to be rid of it. How? Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

Thanks to a poster over at xda-developers.com I got the missing files that let me edit. However I discovered that one error isn't listed in the words I can edit: 'dor' -- a word so archaic I can't help but wonder why it's even in the built-in dictionary. Is there any way to edit it out? Or in Text or email, press menu and choose Writing Options, then choose T9 My Words. I don't see this option? Can you give step-by-step instructions? Or is it because I don't have a eT9MyWords.exe ?? (can anyone supply me with this?) Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

What you want is THIS! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393104 The Chome Configurator allows you to EASILY change/add/modify all your Neo screens (excepting the built-in plugins) with a GUI interface on the phone itself. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

Tip: you should choose contact photos where the person's face is at least above the bottom 1/3 of the photo since it doesn't look nice with the interface text going over their face. It also makes it easier to crop those same photos to a square to be used in rinku's myfaves dialer hack. Yeah, actually I use the 'Nearly Full' skin and don't have that problem - but to show off other skins (some of which would require more precise positioning of a contact image) they don't always look right. Send Nika your bug reports...there's also a log file kept in the EnCallio directory that you should check and send him too. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

These are some skins I have made using EnCallio to replace the ordinary incoming/outgoing calling screens. Like many of you I was completely disappointed with the tiny photos used for showing the caller ID and NikaFX created EnCallio to fix this problem. Unlike Photo Contacts Pro, EnCallio uses an XML system similar to the home screens so you can redefine the look of the incoming and outgoing caller screens any way you like. Even better tho, Nik includes a visual editor (for Windows only) that lets you set this up easily. I did a full review over on GadgetNutz, but I've been having more fun creating caller id screens and this is my favorite Neo/Shadow home so here you guys go! Let me know what you think. Here's a preview of a skin I did for incoming and outgoing calls using EnCallio. It's for all the Neo (Shadow) style lovers out there. The skin will be on Nika's site to download soon. You are welcome to alter this, change the hue of the graphics to match your theme, or whatever. This one was a challenge since I had to isolate several sections of the screen precisely. If EnCallio supports PNG w/alpha in the future this will be easier - but this was still fun! It only took me a few hours to create. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com ![]() |

In the review, it mentions that the problem is that the microsoft routines to store the photo is the cause for the small low-quality photos. It also mentions that the QDZ contact manager will use its own routines to store the photo. And so if I use QDZ to attach the photo, then would the photo look less compressed when viewed in the device's built-in contacts app or when sync'ed back to outlook on the PC? I guess we have to use EnCallio to view the larger photos because the os was not designed to expect the photo to be bigger. But what happens if I use QDZ to import a larger photo and then use the built-in apps? crash? photo is resized in rendering? photo is resized in the database? only part of the photo is shown? The photo is still shown in a reduced size, however you still get the better compression, and in apps (like the Shadow's NEO) you get better resolutions. I've reviewed EnCallio, the new enhanced Caller ID system from NikaFX, over on my site at www.gadgetnutz.com - please go and read the review there! I also mention in the review a few Caller ID screens I developed and decided to post them here for you guys. You'll need EnCallio to try them out. Enjoy! hey all, I love playing with the Templates that the camera has pre-installed, I was wondering where to get more/how to make more? I have some pretty funny Ideas for them, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.. Simple google searches aren't really helping me much in downloading new ones, so I was hoping you all would have some idea atleast how to make them if not find some pre-made ones elswhere... thanks in advance as always Dihce Here's a few I made to amuse myself. I think there's a topic somewhere here on Modaco that gives a reasonably good description of how to make these. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

I suspect this isn't specific to the Shadow but it's my first WiFi WM phone so I'm gonna ask. Why is WiFi slow? Basically it's faster than EDGE, but it can still take a while (after it's connected to my router) to connect to a web site. And downloading data doesn't seem terribly fast either. So what's the scoop here? Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

Can I add my own message tones? I know how to add my own ringtones but what about message tones? My ringtones that I have added do not show up under message tones. Also when I open something up how do I go about closing out of it completly? It seems when I mess with my ringtones or contacts after and I back out of it. I can go under task manager and see that it is still open. Why is this? If you go to Settings - Sounds you should find all your various alert tones and ring tones are set here and, at least in my case, all the sounds I have added to the Shadow show up here. Microsoft originally intended it this way so that once you launched an app, it was always in memory to launch again. They claim that when memory gets low they close apps, but I've never seen this happen. Use Task Manager to close apps as required. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

So are there no programs or tweaks that would allow you to make the contact photo when you dial/receive calls larger? So far no joy on finding such a mythical setting. Even worse it appears that the photo is actually stored in the contacts database in that small size. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

I found out that that some of the new 'touch screen' contact programs (iContact, PocketCM) aren't too bad on a regular smartphone and they're starting to offer some decent skinning features. Perhaps once they get more stable, one of these could be used to make a Neo-ish contact screen? Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

Mine is one of the rarely responsive wheels. It doesn't bother me too much, but it can be quite annoying in games. I would like to find a way to turn it off as well. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

I used to run Duke Nukem on my Cingular 2125 and T-Mobile Dash. However I'm having some trouble getting the keys mapped correctly on the Shadow. Has anyone managed to make this work? Right now I can run around but I can't fire or use multi keys. Help! BTW...Roozbeh moved his site to http://roozbehgmail.parsehgig.com/ Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

Try also CeRegEditor (freeware) http://ceregeditor.mdsoft.pl/ I'd like to add my voice to the support for CeRegEditor - it runs on your Windows PC and edits the Shadow (or any Windows Mobile device) Registry remotely. Even better it makes a lot of the tips and tricks here FAR easier. For instance, if you're making new pages in clinks for example, you can have it Export As... one of the current pages and have it save it as the new page (be sure to use the new page name both in the filename and in the final dialog) then import it back and it will make that new page for you. I have also used it to backup my registry and lots of other things are are far slower to do on the Shadow itself. Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com |

I just completed a big overhaul of my Neo menus. I added an Apps and a Games menu (although this is starting to feel like too many menus, but I'm still pretty pleased with myself) and created icons for everything in sight, including the little side icons for Apps and Games itself. Prepare to be icon'ed! Kermit Woodall Managing Editor GadgetNutz.com ![]() ![]() ![]() Bear in mind that in most cases I'm Google'ing for graphics and repurposing them. I don't claim any huge originality, but the graphics did have to be edited, shadowed and reflected, and in some cases I did transparencies as well. In a few cases I did a enough work that the original source would be near impossible to discern. So...no copyrights, not even a creative commons, just use 'em if you like 'em! |
