so did you also notice the lack of task manager, and an application lock so you can't edit the registry and install T9 languages even when you find them ...... On the bright side, WM6 is really fast on this phone, with no sign of freezing... haha ... pity about the RSI I'm going to develop writing text messages! Try this out or use the forum search http://www.modaco.com/content/HTC-Tornado-...nguages-on-wm6/ |

Soalle, This sounds like a great program. Thanks for the write up on how to install it. To Anybody: A quick question for anybody who as used this program, Can you save a file showing where you have been? I'd like to do some mapping of my favorite mountain bike trails this year and need to be able to save/convert the map into something PC friendly later (like maybe a JPG or PDF file). Thanks. Sorry for the very late reply... I don't know about a mobile application but take a look to these web apps (they are the same actually), they are very well done: www.mapmyrun.com www.mapmyride.com By the way, I want to take a look to the newer version of the gmaps to see if they added some nice functionality (possibility to load kml files). If they did then it is gonna be easy to draw your ride on mapmyride and then simply import it on your gmaps. |

Thank you... Many ROM released at XDA only have one language, or two (the cook's language and English). When you install a t9 cab it overwrites the registry entries (instead of adding to it), so you do have to edit the Available Languages bit. Have a read through: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323790 |

Do you guys know where I can find the T9 language choice when I have multiple T9 languages installed? I found this solution: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=...amp;mode=linear I dunno why when installing a new language the key "Available" in here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\MUI\Languages is gonna be reset to a single value. Available should contain a comma separated list of the languages you installed. In my case: 0409, 040C, 0410 Those keys can be found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\T9 Input Method\LDBs |

Hi guys, I happily upgraded to wm6 following this guide: http://karhoe.byethost33.com/content/view/21/#step1 I still have a small issue, though. I need to write my text messages in English, French and Italian so I downloaded the t9 packages from here: http://melgurth.ovh.org/ However when I try to install one of them it replace the old one. Let me explain: if I have English T9 and I install the French T9 I don't have anymore the choice between English and French but simply French. With the wm5 when I was holding the '*' button, there was a menu for choosing the input (Symbol, Abc, T9) but also a submenu where you could choose the actual T9 language. Now this submenu is no more present. Do you guys know where I can find the T9 language choice when I have multiple T9 languages installed? |

Hi guys, as many others here I had problems with the joystick on my tornado. Now it is almost as new doing these two following things: - upgrading to wm6: it has been known that somebody solved the problems with firmware upgrade. This helped me too but it didn't solve the problem completely. - using WD40 product on the joystick. This has done the job. I put a bit of WD40, move the joystick in _all_ directions and also lifted it several times. Now it is not perfect but almost I started to enjoy my phone again... finally... Hope this help somebody else |

Does anyone know if you can download free UK maps from anywhere that GoogleMaps would use on my Touch whilst tracking my position using an external GPS unit? I tried it once using the default maps downloaded live over the GPRS connection, but data charges soon mount up. Thanks try this: http://www.modaco.com/content/Smartphone-S...s-Mobile-GMaps/ |

Hi there! I don't know if this is something already well known or not, but I thought it was worth a short guide. Problem: I have tried Google Maps for Mobile. Gorgeous. Unfortunately requires a connection and there is no possibility so far of saving maps :-( Solution: Mobile GMaps. http://www.mgmaps.com It's a java application that load maps from different providers (yahoo, Windows live, google, ask.com and some others). It has a GUI really similar to Google Maps and it runs smoothly on my tornado (sp5) even if it is a java application. It has some features that Google does not have but it does not have the positioning system without GPS based on radio cell tracking (whereas Google has it). Here it's the guide. As always I'm not responsible for any loss of data, for any fees you might pay for air data connection and for any alien invasion. I do suggest to take a look to the step by step guide. Quick start Install Application 1. Install a java virtual machine (j2me) on your smartphone. I used JBed: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.rar 2. Download the application: http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps-signed.jad and http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps.jad and copy them in the root of the smartphone 3. Install the application (signed) using JBed Download the maps 4. Setup the area of the map you want to download using http://www.mgmaps.com/create/ 5. Install gMapMaker on your PC: http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/gMapMaker-setup.exe 6. Download the maps on your PC using gMapMaker and the map file you created in step 4 7. Copy the maps on your smartphone. 8. Setup Mobile GMaps in order to pick up the stored Map ("Settings" -> "Map Browsing", enable "Stored Maps", enter the path to your maps in "Storage Path", enable "Offline mode") Step by Step 1. You need a java virtual machine. I followed this guide http://www.modaco.com/content/Smartphone-G...a-MIDlet-Bible/ You can choose among different j2me http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletB...ityAndMain.html I ended up on choosing Esmertec Jbed. I had no problem in installing on my smartphone (wm6) on the storage card. Here it's the link: http://www.winmobiletech.com/092007MidletBible/Jbed.rar On the Mobile GMaps website they suggest the one from IBM but you need to register. If you wanna go with IBM's follow this guide: http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/ 2. Now you need the actual application. The generic version can be found here: http://wap.mgmaps.com/get.php?version=13&a...submit=Download Basically you need the jad file (_signed_) and the jar file. Copy both of them with Active sync in the root of your smartphone. 3. Launch Esmertec Jbed. Select "Menu" -> "Install" -> "Local Files". Then select "mgmaps-signed". Follow the installation instruction basically agreeing on everything ;-). It will ask to launch the Midlet and it will ask for many authorizations for accessing internet. This is the first time the application is running and it is retrieving all the information on the web. Thus, I strongly suggest to have the smartphone connected with activesync on a computer with internet connection. This will avoid the use of GPRS connection. The application now should correctly running but it does not have any map saved locally yet. Note that the jar and jad files that you have copied on your smartphone can now be removed. 4. To download the map you are interested in go to this website: http://www.mgmaps.com/create/ Choose the area that you need to pick up (just click on the map to form a polygon). Try not to exaggerate since the more you pick the more you'll have to save on your smartphone. I chose the downtown area of a fairly big canadian city and it took me 13MB for only the map without the satellite images (not bad at the end). In this website you can choose how many zoom levels you want (given 0 the view of the world and 17 the closest zoom). Level of detail is nothing related to the detail of the map but rather how is gonna be tiled the area you have chosen. Click "Generate!" and this will create a file containing the coordinates of the area you have chosen. 5. Install "gMapMaker" on your PC in order to download the maps. You can find it here: http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/gMapMaker-setup.exe For more informations about the installation refer to this: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=1116 6. Launch gMapMaker. Choose the download folder (where your maps will be saved). Operating mode has to be set to "MGMaps mode, use a .map file". Pay attention that if you are downloading also satellite images your ip might be temporarily banned by google. In this case use the proxy (see guide linked at step 5). Click on "Go!" and load the file you have generated in step 4. The maps now are going to be downloaded. 7. Copy the maps with Active Sync in a folder on your smartphone. 8. Launch again Mobile GMaps. Click on "Menu" (left soft key). Select "Settings" -> "Map Browsing". Enable "Stored Maps". Choose a folder from "Storage Path". The application will ask again for authorization for reading local files. You should give the authorization and tell him not to ask anymore. Note that if you have not installed from the signed application there is not possibility to tell him to shut up ;-) You might want also to enable "Offline mode": "the phone will use the internet connection only for searches or GPS tracking, and never for retrieving any map tiles" (read second post here: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=3162 ). You will be asked to restart the application. Done!!!! Hope you will enjoy it!!!! [Damn!!! I hoped the guide would have been shorter!!!] |

There is a clue in that you've installed Pocket Player. You need to have MP3 files associated to Windows Media Player for the ringtones to work. Use your File Manager to do this. I got the same problem... but I think my situation is a kind of more messy. I had some mp3 ringtones and they worked properly. Then I installed some software (Pocket Music among the other) and it stops playing the mp3 ringtones. If I try to play them explictly with wmp I got an error. Note however that with wmp I can still play plenty of others mp3s. I tried to play the ringtones with tcpmp and it works! So it seems like wmp have problems with only the mp3 ringtones but not with regular mp3 (it makes no sense!) [I associated again mp3 to wmp with the file manager but I still have the same problem... any ideas? |

Enter your seriel at the HTC website and printout the resulting output from their database. The UK repair agent SBE has always accepted that as proof of warranty from me - but it's based on production date and not purchase so you may get less than 12 months cover if you have no official invoice. Richard thank you for the advice |

Just make sure you stick with the T-mobile SDA phone from the US as it's an HTC tornado (with a hump The T-mobile SDA phone from Europe is a much earlier WM2003 device and I think the T-mobile SDA II from Europe is an HTC Hurricane which is still not as advanced as the HTC Tornado. Worth noting when you are searching via the Internet. but the hump is the only difference? May I buy an SDA and then unlock it and install Imate ROM? sprry for the questions, but i'm a kind of newbie... any reference for unlocking and install the imate ROM? |

We know HTCEurope will honour manufacturer's warranties on Orange and T-mobile devices without needing proof of purchase, so regardless of whether they are obliged or not to honour the warranty the fact is they do. In the case of i-mate they too also honour warranties based on HTC's database regardless of whether you register the pre-owned device or not. The pre-owned registration is to access technical support and obtain email facilites at the site and not for warranty reasons. With orange, from experience, if you are a bog standard customer, within the first 6 months they swop out the handset, after 6 months they refer you to HTCEurope for repair. Orangecare is obviousuy handled differently. Whether orange / imate are obliged to honour warranties isn't the point - the OP asked about an Orange m3100 which in the real world will be covered by HTCEurope for approx 12 months - HTC currently have no access to Orange's customer database and so cannot correlate IMEI's to owners for Orange devices. They only time you need any paperwork is if HTCeurope deem the device out of warranty and your paperwork says otherwise. Richard I'm sorry but if I buy a new imate from ebay (and I don't have any proof of purchase nor receipt) how can imate give you 1 year warranty? How do they know when the warranty start? Should I register on clubimate for this reason? the warranty is worldwide (I live in Canada) |

I bought an imate SP5m from eBay for £150 + £5 p&p, BNIB. I joined club imate using the IMEI. There were some warranty details in the box. Unfortunately however, the box was stolen in a house burglary last week... so I'm interested in the outcome of this thread too! but when you bought on ebay did you get a receipt or the phone comes simply with the package? |

Couple of things to bear in mind - the c600 is £150 PAYG locked to orange over here which is the cheapest of all the varients but no Wifi, an unsubsidised sp5m is still about £290, although these are new prices and the warranty will be worth jack in Canada. Used prices here run about 2/3 retail. IMO the US SDA is the best option for cost/benefit ratio as if you can get it for $300 cdn you're doing OK. For Joe Public currently converting an SDA to a c600 is expensive as you'd need a donor c600 to provide the keypad - they are not in the parts channel yet, but you could at least get that sp5m look with a humpless aeriel. Do you really need wifi? I've seen 2125's go for under $150 US on ebay. If not, why not check out the qtek 8500 / 'smartflip' for the g/f? I like mine, plus they do it in pink Symbian series 60? Don't care for it personnally but I do have handsets running it. It's like windoze v mac, you like what you're used to and what you've already bought ;-) Richard Sorry for the question, but which is the difference between TMobile SDA and I-mate SP5m? thx |

Hi, I'm about to buy an sp5m from ebay but I got some doubts. They claim that the warranty is given by the manufacturer. How? I mean does it suffice to register to clubimate? What if I don't get a receipt from the ebay seller, how they will be able to figure out for how long the warranty will last? Thx! |
