You should be able to go into your Online Account and look for the Change Service Plan option. The new tariffs are now listed alongside large 'stars' saying Unlimited Mobile Internet. You do need to update your service plan to get the new services, but if you want to stay on the same level, you will need to speak to CS.

Service Plan updates don't take effect till the next billing date, but Bundle changes take effect after 24 hours, so don't select a new service plan and cancle the OWA30 data immediately or you may find yourself with a large data bill smile.gif

They are now advertising the new plans on site- any plan of £30 per month or more has 'unlimited' mobile internet.

I rang to ask what that meant and was told there was a FUP of 500MB, that the plans were for new customers only at present, but would be available for the forseeable future. Mobile access only (ie no tethering), no streaming and no VOIP.

No WM devices on the phone list for the plans available, but apparently Diamond is about 2-3 weeks away and may well be included at a charge. All current phones, including 'premium' ones are free on these plans except N95 at £30 and an exotic Nokia at £200 smile.gif

As in all these things, it's horses for courses!

After a lot of dithering, I bought a used X7500 last September, after years of 'pocket' WM devices. Partly as a result of having had a Loox N560, and liking the VGA screen, partly from novelty value and partly from a desire for a larger physical screen- both for viewing video, and to assuage my somewhat failing eyesight smile.gif The large screen, mounted in a Brodit holder also pays dividends for sat nav.

Since then I've also had an O2 Orbit2, and an O2 Atmos on extended loan from O2 following user testing; both have stayed tucked away in my briefcase because I simply can't do without the attributes of the X7500, as stated above.

I have to admit that I don't use it for voice calls at all- only data and some texts. On some days when I'm out of the office, it gets extensive usage in database, Exchange data, and reference lookups, and it always lasts over one day, even with some video and music use on the way home on the train. There is no other device that gives these advantages and still has battery life after 6-8 hours of use.

Having said that, I can't see the need to update to the X7510 at that price. Maybe T-Mobile UK will release it at a more affordable level. Don't forget, the TyTnII was over £500 SIM free when 1st released- we get very accustomed to the artificially low prices of carrier subsidised devices.

This is a niche form factor, but there is a good market for that particular niche.

Quote Confucious: Ever thought of moving?

Quote Hotphil: You might find that with a newer handset you get a better signal on another network. Maybe take advantage of T-Mobile's 14 day return policy and try them (or another network if they do the same thing)?

HeHe- we moved to the sticks to get away from the rifraf smile.gif Trouble is we got away from too much of teh useful stuff as well! At least we get 6Mb Broadband smile.gif

Phil: Believe me, we try often! My Samsung u600 gets one or 2 bars on Orange, as does my HTC Advantage. Tried some Nokia E and N models, but nada. My sons have T-Mo and O2 respectively, and the O2 one can get a single bar upstairs standing on a chair smile.gif Nothing at all on T-Mo or Voda. I can get a '3' roaming signal over Orange, but even that will disappear later this year when 3 complete the link to T-Mobile.

There's some hope with Orange though- their £35 SIM only deal says 'Unlimited Mobile Internet' and the Panther £40 plans upwards give the option of 250MB inclusive data.

Yes- sorry sad.gif WM6 Pro (touchscreen) has the option, but WM6 Standard doesn't.

You may need to try a registry hack, but as SK Tools doesn't even include the option it would seem it isn't a recommended action.

..as for the 2nd thing...haven't heard of it. but don't get how that would affect battery life, to be honest.

Agreed, and as in a similar post this morning, my advice is to avoid this at all cost, or you risk losing all your emails. This is because a storage card can sometimes be slow in initialising after a reset, and the OS doesn't find it, so creates a 'new' set of mail folders in main memory, which of course will be blank.

The size of a file/folder will have no impact on battery life.

My advice is don't even try this.

You can store attachments on the SD card, but trying to store system folders there can lead to disasters. The OS looks for the system folders at startup, but due to the slowness of initialising storage cards (some devices are worse than others) it often doesn't find them in time, and recreates them in main memory. This runs the risk of losing all your stored emails/messages.

Make sure you understand exactly what you've got smile.gif

There is no 'Unlimited Data' bundle with Orange- you can either have, on Pay Monthly, £5pm unlimited off peak, or £8 per month 30MB anytime data. The page you link to confirms that under the 'See Terms' link on that page.

Anything over the 30MB is charged at £1 per MB

The Touch Plus does not have GPS built in. If they sell a Co-Pilot deal, they are either including an external GPS, or they are confusing it with the Compact III (this one is shown with or without CPL on the T-Mo website)

When you are in Messaging/SMS and you select Menu/New, you can then start typing the contact name in the 'To' box and you will get a popup list of matches from where you can 'tap' the desired recipient.

Ah- OK, I took your original query to mean you were trying to change the GPS settings in the registry!

Anyway- the Orange SPV M700 isn't application locked to my knowledge, so I don't know why you are getting the 'unsigned' error- generally you should get an 'Unsigned' worning, but still be able to proceed to install.

Are you sure your company hasn't modified the device to lock it against unauthorised program installation? As you are unable to edit the registry either, it might seem that way.

Have you tried a full hard reset (ie back to factory settings) ? This will erase anything you have stored or installed, but may be worth it. For that matter, have you tried a soft reset (push stylus into hole at base?)

Sorry I can't be more specific, but I no longer use the SPV M700 smile.gif

Steven- you DO NOT need to do anything to enable the GPS on the Orange SPV M700, unless someone has flashed it with a very early Radio ROM.

Did you get yours via Orange or from Ebay etc? Which program are you trying to use with it? Although the M700 has GPS within the chipset, it doesn't came with any GPS or Sat Nav software.

Look in Start/Settings/System/Device Information and let us know which ROM version, and particularly which Radio version is installed.

Some people have used an unlocking program to SIM Unlock the M700, but this installs a non-GPS Radio ROM; if that's the case, you will need to reflash with a GPS enabled ROM, which we can advise on.

Once you have a GPS Program on the device, you should simply be able to point it at the GPS Port (COM9) at 57600 Baud, and within about 10-15 minutes (for a 'Cold' fix) you should have a stable postion, as long as you are outside with a clear view of the sky. Unfortunatley the M700 doesn't have a flashing LED to show GPS is working.

All ther early posts about needing registry hacks refer to the GPS Settings panel, not the GPS receiver itself; the settings are fine by default, so the control panel isn't needed unless you need to make changes.to the default settigns

Maybe smart but not necessary!

Both the major AV players, in an article in PC PRo this moth admit there is virtually NO threat at present to WM devices. 98% of mobile threats have been in the Symbian platform, and ALL of them are related to Bluetooth propagation. There are not even 'viruses' as we know them, but 'malware' which has to be specifically installed

@ADG: Which GPS program are you trying to use? How long have you left it to pick up a signal?

@mechanix: Have you changed any of the 'External GPS' settings? If so, you may have actually broken the GPS software. Some TyTnII's seem to be afflicted with a dodgy GPS control, and once 'gone' the only way out is a hard reset, which will lose all your user data.

If you have not made any changes, just open the External GPS control, make a note of which Program Port is listed. Which TTN version are you using? The one that comes with the TyTnII (on the CD) is specific to the TyTnII and includes a special 'Built-in GPS' setting that sees the receiver without any further setup. If another version, as was previously stated, select 'Other NMEA Receiver' (NOT Other NMEA Bluetooth Receiver!), Baud 4800 and whatever the Program Port was set to.

Now go outside with a clear view of the sky for at least 15-20 minutes. See what the TomTom home screen status info says: If 'No Valid GPS Data' then all is OK, just waiting for a fix; if 'No GPS Device' then there is something wrong.

That is correct in principle Everton!

However, the location of the Synchronised Fiels folder is actually nested within My Documents, and will generally be called My Documents/'DeviceName' Synchronised Files (XP), or Users/'username'/Documents/'Documents on devicename' (Vista)

As explained, compatible files saved or copied into this folder will sync with the PPC (but not to the storage card).

A few words of warning- the PPC versionso of Excel and Work are very cut down from the PC versions; a lot of formatting is lost in the transfer from PC -> PPC and this formatting is not recovered on the sync back to the PC, so if you haev any complex documents, make sure you have backups safe on the PC in case of errors.

If you make a lot of use of the full formatting abilities of Word/Excel, and want these replicaed on the PPC, it may be worth lookign at Softmaker Office for Windows Mobile. This is a replacement for pocket word and pocket excel, and can replicate most of the formatting of the desktop programs. Is quite expensive though!

Its good news that 3 are now releasing a WM model- and a good one at that smile.gif

The coverage issue is a tricky one. All the carriers, including 3 quote by population coverage, not geographical availability, and 90% coverage leaves vast areas of the country without a 3 signal. With 3, no 3G means no signal at all; the roaming agreements do give some voice cover, but in a lot of cases this doesn't include data.

I do use a 3 PAYG SIM for the excellent monthly web bolt-on, and in those areas with a good signal, it is very, very good. But in areas where there is no 3 signal, I get nothing.

Hopefully the tie-in with T-Mobile should assist in coverage. Are 3 going to start using T-Mo as a roaming partner do you know?

It depends on how 'techy' you are, and whether you are far into your Orange contract.

If near the end of an Orange contract, you can ask Customer Services to unlock it for you- for which they will charge about £15.

If you have any tech savvy, you can use the free 'Unlocker' from XDA Developers (the M700 is a 'Trinity' device). If you do this though, you will initially lose the GPS as it replaces the radio with a non-GPS enabled one. You would then need to update the radio again with a newer version (which maintains the unlock status)

I'm going to disagree. I have the same issue with my Touch, and don't have any automatic GPRS connectivity. If however, I'm connected to the internet / IM software etc and someone tries to call, the call takes precedence. This has been the case on all phones I've owned in the last few years

Being connected in itself doesn't cause problems, but if any data is being exchanged when the incoming call is received, it will be rejected. The current model of use precludes concurrent GPRS/Voice traffic as the operators don't employ a system to hold an incoming call for the short time needed to put a hold on the data session.

Looks good, but same criticism as above- it doesn't sync copy protected iTunes files, so you are back to needing to convert/strip the protection before syncing.
