Hmmmm

Just had a thought that the upgrade files may be in nbh format? You could try the hermes modaco splash number 3 and see if that works...

I'll have to look into this further tho

Phil

that worked less than the other one sad.gif it just lost com

Don't flash an i-mate ROM whatever you do, i-mate never released the HTC Monet so you wont find a compatible ROM.

But like i said, i'll cook you your own splash tomorrow, if you want a specific image then post it here before about 11am MoDaCo time. Needs to be 240x320 in bmp format.

Phil

yay smile.gif

oh crap blink.gif am i too late to post an image?

if not here is one...

I'll investigate this further, what happened when you tried to flash the Tornado MoDaCo splash?

You can try CID unlocking using the SPV Services client.

Phil

SPV services just says "Encrypted checksum not found sad.gif " when i try to CID unlock

the tornado splash screen installer got as far as putting my phone into bootloader (3 colour screen) and sat at 0% of the progress bar for a few minits before saying:

"ERROR [264]: Connection
the rom update utility has encountered communication errors during the update process..."

and i follow the recovery instructions, ie pull out battery and reboot the phone. and its back to normalstill with 'yuk' that virgin splash.

maybe we should continue this in the monet section smile.gif

i tried the methods described in the thread i started in the Monet section (lobster700tv), and none worked sad.gif
i assumed the tornado to be similar in some respects to the monet seeing as the tornado power control program works on it ok, and other progs..

but it just wouldnt allow me to change my splash "unable to save splash region" or something sad.gif

is there another part of the phone that is locked other than the app lock? i really hate that virgin mobile splash sad.gif

Its actually fairly easy wink.gif Luckily the splash image is located in a different section of the ROM to the OS, bootloader, etc so you can 'cook' if you like your own ROM with the splash screen ONLY without too much trouble. All your programs etc are safe.

If you want a MoDaCo boot screen, download and flash the splash screen i posted HERE

If you want to make your own, follow the instructions by me HERE, or slightly more specific instructions by merwin HERE

@Paul, if you feel it'd be worthwhile, I'll make a Hermes version of the MoDaCo Splash Screen I did for the Tornado smile.gif It'll be both the Splash Screen and the Sub splash (normally the same image but if you want to keep some operator branding i'll leave the subsplash section out so it wont flash that)

Phil

no luck sad.gif it passes the immediate flash test.. but displays "Error saving splash zone" when i try to put in my new splash.bmp sad.gif

i am app unlocked. is there any special format the bmp has to be in?

[edit]
The Modaco boot screen rom update utility failed too sad.gif what have virgin done to my phone?

You can't do that easily.... it's set in ROM.

P

so it can be done?

i have searched the reg a little to see if there are any references to it.. but nothing that has made any changes..

if i could replace the rom with a default htc monet rom (not messed with by virgin in any way), if such a thing exists. like a clean install of windows biggrin.gif hehe

You don't need to... play away, you can always hard reset / clear storage if you mess it up smile.gif

P

i know. but reinstalling all my progs, and customisations would be a pain in the arse sad.gif

i already ahve a weird problem i need to sort out hopefully without hard resetting..

the remove programs app doesnt display anything any more.. not even menu options.. all is blank.. i dont know what could have caused this (prolly summin i installed.. but what?)

i really need to fix it without a hard reset.. i can add remove progs through the activesync stil tho.

is there anything i can use to Backup the lobsters Rom file to my pc..

i wouldnt mind playing about with things.. but it would be safer to do it in an emulator and not my phone.. so using my phones rom image in the emulator would be best.

but i cant find anything to back it up with..

any ideas?

well it needs work..

it assumes the language from the locale settings of your mobile but not your set language, so it showed up in norsk and i speak english.

it also needs to be able to connect via bluetooth and usb because it would be a good wireless handset to use on the pc
