so i received vario II number 3, and it's been running okay so far (i've had it 3 days).
i've flashed it with windows mobile 6 and it seems to make things run much nicer.
although i seem to have a little problem with PIE, not sure if that's WM6 or the new radio rom.

still thinking about maybe buying the sony ericsson k850i, when it comes out,
mainly for the HSDPA and camera.
then buy a seperate PocketPC maybe the dell axim x51v.
it does mean having to carry around two devices though.

the other alternative is to get the HTC kaiser, after reading the review on modaco,
i'm serverly tempted.

I think they sent me your phone mate because thast the same issue I had on MDA Vario II phone number 3 theprevious 2 were just random crashes then loss of signal occaisonally but then this lates phone is exacylt as described by yourself I had a problem hard reset the phone then No GSM appears on the boot and no signal can be obtained I agree with your assumption it must be the sim card reader thats fault so I am expecting MDA Vario II number 4 tomorrow fingers crossed aye smile.gif I think they are sending me reconditioned phones is there any way to tell if thats the case ? P resume they just test them by switching them on then if they come on they put on a new case and ship em out lol smile.gif

as far as i'm aware, yeah, they just send out reconditioned phones.
the one i've just received, seemed to work okay.
but then i found that it would sometimes crash, 7/10 times, when i try to make a call or send a text.
worse, it would crash, when i wasn't watching it, i'm assuming when someone tried to text or call me,
so i went nearly the whole day, thinking my phone was fine and no-one was calling me.
when in fact it had crashed, no idea when.

let's hope number 3 will be okay.
can't believe you're on number 4 already, and the fact they sent a non working phone out to you.

i've been seriously contemplating going back to a simple phone, just for phone calls,
and carrying a separate Pocket PC for the other stuff. does mean having to carry 2 devices though.
also the fact the Vario2 is totally crap for games, very poor graphics performance.

I've just checked to see if i can read the contacts of the SIM card.
Tapping on SIM Manager doesn't work,
nothing happens.

Which leads me to believe that maybe the SIM reader on the phone is damaged in some way.

my t-mobile Vario II crashed the other day as I was replying to a text message, nothing unusual there, wm5 has been known to crash once in a while.
so I soft reset it, and it reboots.
But now, after it's all finished loading, it would run for a few seconds, only to crash again.
I reset again, but the freezing up follows shortly.
Nothing I do stops this happening.
So in desperation I go for the Hard Reset.
Everything gets wiped and it reinstalls all the T-Mobile stuff.
But now I have no signal,
I take the SIM card out and put it in an old nokia, and that works fine, i receive two text messages which I think were due around the time of the first crash.
The texts are normal texts from friends, saying hello and stuff.
So it's not the SIM card, it must be something to do with the phone.

I've just tried the SIM card in the phone again, and i notice on the T-Mobile boot screen it says the usual stuff.
M 05 S 04 B 06 D1.21, but just before it blinks it says No GSM.
I searched the forums and, this seems to be a problem people can get when tryting to unlock or upgrade their phones rom.
Problem is, I've not tried to do either.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.
Am I going to have to mess around with ROM upgrades, all of which scares me greatly.
Or should I just send the phone back to T-Mobile for repair.

thanks, quang.

AsobiSimon (freeware)
An age old classic, a game of follow the leader.
The computer will light the squares in sequence, then you copy the exact sequence.
First just one square, then two in sequence, followed by three and so on.
Can you recall all 50 lit squares in sequence?

Written in a few hours, as a distraction from my main project,
hopefully this will bring a few minutes of fun to your lives.

Over what speed connection quangdx?

P

i was using it with wifi and my home dsl 1meg line.
but i don't think that matters, as i let the clip load completely before trying to play it.
so the clip would be playing from the phones memory cache.

It is very good though... I like being able to watch youtube video's on my phone...

installed it to the storage card of my Vario II
had to do a soft reset before it would run.

youtube videos load,
but playback is really bad, like at 1 frame per second.
how is it on your phone jimbouk?

as a games developer,
i'm curious to how the trackball in the artemis and upcoming toshiba g900 affect gaming.
games that require you to hold down a direction key on a normal dpad,
does that translate to constantly having to roll the ball in that direction?
will games have to be designed specially with trackball devices in mind?
thanks

as far as I know, on the hermes you can only press one of the face buttons at any one time.
that's the DPAD and all the hardware buttons.
and I believe HTC are also aware of this, and there has yet to be a fix.

the keyboard does allow for multiple key presses though, but using a WASD setup makes pressing up and left, or up and right very difficult with your thumb, you really need to use fingers. alas the keys are a bit small for that.

I checked out the new COMBO key function,
but it doesn't seem to work for me. I copied the macro.dat file from the PC version of FB alpha plus acros.
Enabled the Combo Key check box. Select a macro, and assigned a key.
But when you go back to the game for some reason it clears the macro. this can be seen by going back into the key config screen. even thogh the check box is still enabled, the macro selections are now blank.

Oh and I can only assign 3 macros, as the scroll bar doesn't seem to work, and I don't know if there are any more macro options below those 3.

diagonals aren't great, even on the keyboard.
what would be amazing if there was a utility out there that would remap, more than one key to another key.
so when you you pressed Q on the keyboard it made final burn think you were pressing W and A.
E sends the key codes W and D to final burn, Z emulates the A and X keys, and C gives X and D.

does this utility exist out there?
