if you hold the joystick up when powering on then you can hard-reset the phone

daveo has not replied to your suggestion, so can this hard reset be done when a phone is locked as described? If it can, would this not negate the whole purpose of locking the phone in the first place?

You could check out this thread:

http://www.coolsmartphone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10513

I currently use www.nonoh.net website.
The login page is: http://myaccount.nonoh.net/clx
Use Opera Mini 3 or 4 browser for best results.

As a bonus, this site offers the best call rates between phones, worldwide, especially mobile2mobile, in comparison to others. (also, no 5c euro connection fee)

The above paragraph will become clear once you read the thread.

So WM6 automatically adds words you type to the predictive text dictionary. Which is great. If you type the right spelling every time.

So how can I edit/remove words from the dictionary that WM6 has added?

Try this:
Open a new text message.
Press and hold the * key.
Then T9 Settings, then My Words.

Thanks for you advice though - made sure I wasn't going mad!

You could try one other thing to see if you can at least login to Skype.
With your sim in and WiFi disabled, get to the Connection Method page and change Connection to WiFi & 3G.
I did this on my SP5 (WiFi & Edge) and it logged into Skype ok. Not that's it's of any real use with Edge.

See what happens with your device?

Ps. I picked up a PAYG 3Skypephone recently and in all honesty it knocks spots off the Skype client in my WM 5/6 Smartphones. The really big bonus is the non-necessity of WiFi and data free Skype calls, home and roaming abroad.*

* 3UK sister networks only.

If mobile Skype is important to you then this could be an additional arrow to your quiver.

Sorry Looby I haven't been very clear - I can't actually login into Skype because it won't see/use my wifi connection.

Try this it may work.
Take out your sim. (no gprs)
Boot up your phone. (don't connect WiFi)
Click on the Skype icon.
Enter your sign in details and sign in.
You should get a Connection Method page where you are prompted to select a prefered connection method. ie WiFi only or WiFi & 3G.
At least you will find out what your current Skype setting is.

You're forgetting the i-mate SPJAS? ;)

P

I beg to differ. The SPJAS lacks WiFi.
The features I mentioned were in addition to the existing features of the SP5.
I do in fact have a MTeoR which, although lacking a front facing camera like the SPJAS, does have HSPDA but alas no WiFi.
This HTC Breeze model could have been the perfect upgrade but lack of WiFi and lousy battery life doomed it. IMO anyway.
EDIT:
I just realised that the mentioning of the WiFi-less Dual may have elicited your response. Sorry to mislead.

Are you like me, frustrated that HTC never bothered to upgrade the Tornado?
It's been 2yrs now since the introduction of this brilliant device. All that was needed was the addition of 3G/HSDPA and 128mb Rom. (2mp camera and 400Mhz CPU would be ok as well)
The Asus Jupiter satisfies the above criteria but I keep going back to my SP5 - I miss my dedicated Contacts and Message buttons and the ability to toggle between them. But Edge speed is painful for browsing.

Perhaps I must just move on to the Touch Dual?

Is there a quick way to delete all contacts on my 2125? Tried to guess which file it is but I don't want to hose up with a wrong guess. Thanks.

You could hard reset.
Or save your contacts in Outlook to your desktop then delete them from Outlook. Connect your device to your pc and sync.
This should clear your device.
Then copy your contacts back from desktop to Outlook.

I don't know why it switches itself on either but you can enable your phone to automatically disconnect WLAN after a variable time once your backlight goes off.
Settings>Connections>Wifi Settings>Power Management.

As subject says is the 02 Graphite unlokced to any network or can it be modified simply by anyone ?
I currently have a HTC Tornado has anyone upgraded to the 02 from one of these phones is it worth it ?

I upgraded to the O2 Graphite from the SP5. It comes unlocked.
Why oh why couldn't HTC have brought out an upgraded Tornado with 3G/HSDPA? I also tried the MTeoR which has HSDPA and also the i600. I thought the HTC S730 would be the answer but alas at a weight of 150 grams it's not for me.

All the latest stuff is ppc, slider or qwerty. Is the candybar dead?

In any event, can you let me know where I can get the Graphite for £110?
I want two.

Thanks.

CK.

What really would impress the market would be a successor to the C500 - a phone(!) with the specs of the S730 but without the spacewasting keyboard. My best guess is that you would shave of 3mm of the thickness. And instead of being 25% bigger than the C500 they would actually be same size (based on volume).

/J

In the absence of a HTC device in the format and specs you describe may I suggest checking out the O2 Graphite? (they come sim unlocked)
I myself went the route: C500>imate SP5>Graphite.
I did think the S730 would be next but at 150 grams (40% heavier) it's not for me.

I just wanted to ask a few questions about this phone as I saw it on the main page of the website.

If you haven't found the answers to your questions elsewhere then check out www.pdadb.net There you can do a simultaneous comparison between your C500 and the Graphite. The answer will be obvious.

Hi guys and gals. A mate spotted my C600 and we got chatting. This was a while ago. He said 'they're bringing out one of them with sat nav soon'

My requirements are: Microsoft Smartphone, blue teeth, WiFi, built-in sat nav, key pad (not touch screen) and would prefer non-querty like C600 etc, half decent camera (unlike early SPVs!) would be nice too

Any recommendations please folks?

Kind regards

Ferg

I guess a lot of people, including myself, are waiting on something similar as well.
I upgraded from the imate SP5 to the O2 Graphite which has all the above plus 3G and more but not the Sat Nav. Add Sat Nav and/or HSDPA in the candybar format and that will suffice for me until they bring out (if ever) my dream device, namely a WM Smartphone with dual sim and simultaneous activation.

I've diverted my emails for now, but would still be interested in a solution.

I have configured my imate SP5 for Gmail to test it out and there seems to be non of the problems that other people are experiencing on their devices. I cannot however send Gmail if WiFi is activated on my device.
(I can receive) This also happens with my other POP3 ac. I have to disconnect WiFi and send by gprs.

Previously I had diverted my Gmail to the free version of Mail2web but the downside to this was your reply is seen by the recipient as coming from Mail2web, not your Gmail.
(this does not happen with the subscription version)

I now use a very good free Push email solution from www.consilient.com
Having my Gmail pushed to my device and there being no confusion for any recipients, the other methods are now redundant.

Well this is the way that i configure my phone for different sim cards from various networks in my home country as well as foreign. I just ascertain the Access point name and add a new GPRS connection to my list. Perhaps you could try another network's sim together with its access point name. If it works then your current access name must be wrong.

Can't think of anything else to suggest.

Good luck.

help plese anybody

Assuming there is no difference with my phone, the SP5, try this:

Go to Settings>Connections>GPRS>Menu>Add.
Put say GPRS in Description (it can be anything)
Put The Internet in Connects to.
Put your network access point name in Access point.
Then press Done...

Go to Settings>Connections>Highlight GPRS>Menu>Advanced>Change Internet connection to the new settings name that you entered.

Go to Internet Explorer>Menu>Tools>Options>Connections.
Untick the box and put The Internet in Select network.
Then press Done...

If this does not work try putting WAP Network instead of The Internet in Select network.

Good luck.

If you go to www.pdadb.net you will find many phones that satisfy the criteria you stated. The ones listed below are a sample.
I recently replaced my HTC Tornado, which incidentally is a far superior device than the MPx220, with the Asus Jupiter as I prefer the candybar form factor.
1. Asus M530w (WM6 Pro)
2. HTC Wings (WM6 Sta)

Good luck.

Edit: I thought about what Ovie said and checked another site. The Asus M530w is apparently a WM6 Standard Smartphone. Pdadb's specs must be incorrect.
Edit: The specs now show WM6 Sta on Pdadb.

What does everyone think of it overall, then?

I was quite impressed initially.

But the battery life is pathetic managing 48 hrs on standby NOT the 220 hrs quoted, and if you make calls, (even on GSM only) you barely get an hour talktime in 18 hrs without it dropping to below 25%

I m having problems with bluetooth as well-it wont detect other devices most of the time.

And wifi works but I cant get internet explorer to use it, it always tries to use GPRS

I'm rather ambivalent about this phone; some good, some frustrating points.
I was so looking forward to getting a phone with the features that my excellent HTC Tornado (imate SP5 variant) did not possess. ie. 3G and bigger internal memory.
I also tried the i600 Blackjack, sold it within the week, couldn't handle the Qwerty board. I reckon I'm just a candybar T9 er.

However there is light on the horizon!

On www.pdadb.net are the specs for the upcoming (July?) imate Ultimate 8150.
They are truly awesome and the size and volume look great.
Unfortunately, it seems that, according to msmobiles.com, imate are in the mire and their products could be delayed bigtime. I hope not. This is my phone!
Edit: Just lately realised the 8150 is touch screen. Not my phone after all.

Yeah, I agree, its about the same as a TI 200 mhz processor. Although TCPMP has clocked mine at 420, 418 and 455 mhz. And once at 680!!-So maybe its not very accurate. Any-one know of any apps that accurately check clock speed?

Intel have got a reputation for over-stating their chip's performance-Good old AMD always out perform their pc processors with lower-rated ones

You could check out www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest

Or download Orb to your pc, create a Username and Pass. Login from your phone and there you will find provision to test your speed.

mini_man is correct about mail2web and Gmail. Here is a way to effect the link:
Login to your Gmail ac on your pc.
Click on Settings (top right corner)
Click on Forwarding and POP
Enable: Forward a copy of incoming mail to...
Enter your Mail2web address in the bar provided.
Scroll down and click Save Changes.

To setup a free Mail2web address go to: http://live.mail2web.com

I have also responded to a post titled:

QUOTE(thewitney @ May 28 2007, 15:37) *
I'm very happy using mail2web to deliver push email to my M3100, it works very well.

The only issue I have is that when responding to emails that have been sent to my ntl email account and then pushed via mail2web to my phone the response emails I send are from the mail2web email a/c. This confuses people as they send to one email address and recieve a response from another.

I contacted mail2web to ask if they had a service where emails I send from outlook were from my own email providers address rather than theirs. The response was:

"You could do this using SMTP proxy addresses. Messages would appear to be coming from the other email account and replies would go back to that account"

Could someone please explain in simple terms for me what their response means and how I would set this up?

Many thanks.

I also asked Mail2web about the same thing plus the fact you cant save sent emails. They said I needed to upgrade and pay for a service that eliminates these anomalies. I was not keen on that so I lived with it. Then a few weeks ago www.consilient.com released a free Push Email application that you download and install on your phone. It's different to Mail2web in as much that nothing is stored on the web but you can login to their site to manage your ac.
Most web based emails and Pop can be routed thru Consilient and pushed to your phone. Also it solves the anomalies above. At this juncture, only one email can be routed with WM phones, whereas other phones (Nokia, Samsung Etc) can handle about 5.

So in my case I use Mail2web for other Mail2web users (mainly my family) and Consilient for my Gmail ac. I never have to login to Gmail to send messages anymore. I send straight from the phone via the Consilient client and it pops up in the recipients inbox as if from my Gmail. It works great.

Finally, there is something that you may not be aware of re Mail2web. If you login to the Mail2web site; say to check your sent messages, you will not be able to logout again if access is gained via PIE on your phone. There is no logout button. I brought this to the attention of Mail2web. They said they are working on it. This of course does not apply to a PC or access via Opera Mini. A hard reset is your only recourse if it bothers you that your ac is always open. Luckily the new Sprite Mobile Swipe is available if your phone is lost or stolen.

Cheers.

Edit: Just found out that you can Sync your Mail2web Sent Folder on your phone so Sent messages can be saved. So there is now no need to login to the Mail2web site to check your sent messages.
