Just a warning for others.

The T-mobile Compact IV screen protector is DIFFERENT to the Touch Diamond. Due to the more curvey shape.

Expansys have the compact IV version listed but as pre-order only right now.

Getting these protectors on is an art in itself. But you should only peel off the top first, leaving the backing sheet still attached to the rest. Then after aligning the top part ensuring the "earpiece hole" and top edge line up correctly, rub your finger up and down the sheet gradually unpeeling the rest from the backing sheet as you go.

Okay so I found YouTube. You can download and install it with the cab file found at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...5338&page=3

EDIT: Scratch that.....it doesn't work properly...looks like the author tried to get it to rescale for other phones.

Finally, successful install of YouTube and Live Messenger can be found here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408650

Also a theme is available to get the HTC rather than T-mobile colours is in this thread.

Let us know if it does work because I thought he took some things out and this is not the true stock ROM, but I could have read wrong.

Hmm...I didn't think he took anything out...I thought he repackaged it because there were problems with the rom updater. (RUU)

After doing some more testing.

If you I let the device cool down first (i.e. screen off for a while), then go to use the camera, the pixels don't show up for about 15-20 seconds. Then the red one starts to flicker on and off.

It is definitely the camera's CCD sensor though....and is definitely related to how the CCD heats up...It is therefore a hot pixel problem.

Nobody else trying this out on theirs?

Yes....I am in the same position. If there is a T-mobile ROM I can flash back to if I need to...then I am happy to try other ROMS.

In the meantime, I would just settle for a CAB file for the YouTube and MSN applications. I think I can find MSN, but I am not sure about YouTube.

Hi,

I just received my MDA Compact IV.

First I checked it for stuck pixels and it all seemed okay...but then I went to the camera. When using the camera, I see what looks like 3 stuck pixels...2 red close together and 1 blue. The stuck pixels do NOT show up on the final photos.

I believe this is referred to by camera users as a Hot pixel as it shows up when the CCD is hot.

I just wondered if others had seen this? It is easy to try...just go into camera mode and cover your hand over the lens. Do you see any coloured dots?

Not sure whether to complain about it or not, because the stuck pixels are not on the screen itself or show up on the pictures...just annoying when using the phone as the viewfinder.

Also on a sidenote...I find I have to press quite hard on the touch screen....harder than an iPhone for example. Is that normal?

So from the messages on this thread it sounds like this update ONLY provides push email, and no other improvements?

My phone still runs like a dog (very unresponsive) and calls regularly just drop. I assume none of this has been fixed?

There definitely are other changes as things like icons at the top of the screen and such have changed. It feels a bit snappier but its early days yet. The process was fairly painless so I don't think it does any harm to try it..other than the fact, you will need to back-up all your data and reinstall any software.

But it still uses the old 1.03 radio when we know there are some issues with it, and that a much later one exists for other M5000 clones!

Ah! I think I deleted the flower too: and you're right!  When I film a piece of video it does run.  Thanks.
So I wonder why the M5000 comes with both Windows Media Player and PVPlayer?  And I don't have a way of playing an m4v file bought from iTunes!
*

PVPlayer is normally used by Orange as the player used when you download movies from the Orange WAP sites. So for example, if you download a movie trailer it would start-up the PVPlayer to play it.

However, Orange seems to have forgotten this phone is a 3G phone, and although every other single 3G phone will allow you to download movie clips etc, with this phone, the 3G feature options are missing from the Orange WAP site when browsing with the M5000.

Actually this is very likely a hardware fault. It is not the first time I have seen it. I had it on a normal non-touch phone screen before on a flip phone. Everytime I opened and closed it, it gradually put strain on the cables running to the screen and eventually the same thing happened. If I pressed on a part of the phone, the screen went back to normal probably as I was rejoining the damaged part of the ribbon cable. I am not sure how LCD screens are wired such that this can happen though.

Well we ALL should probably be using PVPlayer much more often if Orange get their act together and enable the WAP services so we can play movie trailers etc. On every other 3G phone you get to play the trailer for the top 10 movies. However, on the M5000 it only offers picture stills! So the most powerful 3G phone doesn't get the right WAP offering! Crazy!

Does anyone know why the backup feature of activesync has been removed for WM5 devices? I can't see any good reason for it.

To eliminate a hardware fault, why not do a hard reset assuming you have not customised it much yet? At least then you can say for sure its software.

If it is software, then there is probably a specific sequence of events that leads to that problem. I remember Nokia had a beauty of a bug where following a specific sequence, would result in the phone rebooting everytime you hit a number key! Once the phone was in this state, only a hard reset would cure it. It took weeks before it was found to be due to the T9 dictionary. Until then it was a mystery that only swapping the phone was hoped to cure!

The fault descibed sounds very much like a software issue. How do you know it is not related to the Skype program? Does Skype install something that kicks off everytime you restart the unit (i.e some kind of listener)?

I would be tempted to try a hard reset of the unit and not installing Skype for a week and see how you get on.

May be worth a hard reset as the ok button should be there.
As for tuening the phone off basically you can not. PPC devices are designed to hibernate and not to power off unlike phones.

I disagree with the philosophy behind not allowing the phone to go off. When you go into a cinema or theatre, you want to make absolutely sure the phone isn't going to make any sounds. You have to put the phone into flight mode, and switch the sound off to make sure nothing interrupts. However, I always feel nervous that something will happen, such as a crash/restart of the phone, and it will come back to life again. There should be a facility, for peace of mind, to switch it off completely.

When receiving a call the voice is much too quiet. Even though the ringtone itself is on maximum volume, the voice is very quiet.

Also, the lack of being able to press the voice key when closed is a pain. However, if the phone is in portrait mode, even when it goes to standby, the voice key does work.

On my M5000, with the unit closed, I find there is some "movement" or slack on the right side of the hinge. The left side of the hinge is rock solid, but the right side I can feel it click a bit as I press on it backwards and forwards. Is this the same for everyone, or do I have a hinge that is likely to give on me at some point?

Is it just me?

On the M5000, using the Orange WAP service I cannot find any videos to play. For example if I view the top 10 films, I can see a few stillshots from the movie, but not play the trailer.

With my Nokia 6680 right next to it, I can see the WAP Video offerings.

Can anyone else confirm if they can see Orange's video offerings or whether this is something else Orange have screwed up?

Both phones are connecting on the 3G side of the network.

I am curious, do any of you use your fingers directly on the screen to dial telephone numbers when the universal is in portrait mode? I guess some of you will want to avoid getting greasy fingermarks on the screen so always use the stylus or use voice commands.

Also, has anyone any comments yet on how good the quality of the screen is in terms of scratches (i.e does it seem scratch resistant?). I hate screen protectors as I can never get them on perfectly no matter how hard I try....there must be a knack to it!

On a side note, and I will probably find it in the manual eventually. How do you turn the M5000 off? If you press the standby button it goes to sleep, but not off.....

I see that at the moment the Tom Tom Navigation software does not list the C500. Yet in the review on this website, I can see screenshots taken with a C500. So can anyone comment if it is compatible?

I guess the biggest roadblock is that it will come on an SD card and not a mini SD. However, if the software can just be copied from one to the other, this is not an expensive addition.

Actually this tariff is not available with the C500 through the Orange website. However, you can still get it through the telephone ordering service. This is for exactly the reason you mentioned. There are only specific phones that are compatible with the free game service. However you can still have the tariff if you really want and take advantage of the 1Mb GPRS. I don't know if there are plans to offer the free games for the C500

[Edited by Site Admin, thanks for the submission JonStatt!]

SYMPTOM:

I have noticed two bugs/problems with SMS delivery receipts.

When they arrive, you get the text message envelope, but the SMS counter on the home screen does not increment.

SMS delivery receipts contain the destination phone number, and it is a hyperlink. The "+" is stripped from the number (this is the bug), and therefore if you click the hyperlink it tries to dial 44123456, instead of +44123456.

RESOLUTION:

None Known
