Ouch. Mark, how's the warning bit going on your profile? Can we have before and after shots????? wink.gif wink.gif

Weirdly, its on 0%. Then again, I'm not a referal program, so Paul can't make money from warning me, so I guess hes busy looking for other ways to flog the modaco cash cow*. Shame.

*yes yes, I know, no one ever makes money on the net, etc etc, goodness of his heart, etc etc. Honestly, if you ban me, at least itll stop me posting when I get annoyed at the next snippit of non-news posted with free added advertisement crowbarred in.

BTW: FYI, I believe this is news, but posted in the usual "florin is god" way, just like the Pof/florin/toys/pram stuff.

Give it up all, no one will listen.

Its obvious that no news gets posted on modaco unless it benefits Paul.

Ooh I know, lets make a top 10 software list, post it as news (Despite it being far more "Lounge"ish than the Pof v Florin debate), AND GUESS WHAT: All my choices are free with Plus!

Amazing.

Its getting boring now. The only hope for modaco, is that enough people realise what is happening, and Paul wakes up and starts acting how he used to act.

How so?

I posted a VERY measured and honest reponse to your PM - which i'm happy to post here if you like, and didn't contradict anything i'd said anywhere else!

P

yes - then made a childish comment in this thread.

You are right - it never stops. You don't want flaming in the thread, so I stop, and send a more adult PM, which you then want to post this thread.

DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT.

Oh and if you are desperate to post it in this thread, do it, and feel free to post mine too. I didn't PM you for any reason other than to keep it out of this thread.

Now finally having gone through all the pages huh.gif now why dont we try to arange a live chat on palringo with both florin and pof online to do a real debate also it gives everyone a chance to put in their point of view , just an idea and a good way to use the palringo application biggrin.gif
On one point a way back about if its legal for holland to unlock the imei it is , go to any market and you will find sim unlockers there.
There is also a company here that does the same a florin but cheaper , florin has done a good job in the past and recieved alot of free adverts here on modaco with every unlocker he has made .
All htc phones bought here which dont contain a operators rom but the original htc rom are simlock free , as all t-mobile phones are girly coloured ( pink ) i would have thought now most guys would get an unbranded htc version.
back on topic the only bit i find strange is if the unlocker is ready why does paul have to post his phone ? i cant see paul leaking the unlocker he is mr modaco and trust worthy wink.gif

I suspect Florin DOESNT have a software hack, and the phone needs to be sent away because of some minor hardware mod which we've seen on some devices.

Too much info? Damning with faint praise? Not that it's praise, but be saying 'he's taken his slurs offline into PM's' implies he's done the right thing to make it private yet his argument is still poor. Surely just 'markukcouk has pm'd me to continue discussion' would have done?....

M.S

Hey MS.... I read his comment, but was going to leave it - but actually you are right to bring it up.

He's quite happy to pretend to be the peacemaker - but he is anything but. I PM'd him exactly why I said what I said, which in my mind are pretty damning justifcations. I PM'D him purely to keep it out of this thread, because I'm sure he would love to lock it, move on, and forget this almighty screw up. However, he brought it back here (I'm guessing so I'll respond and he can lock it.)

Very 2 faced.

There's a number of reasons Mark, not least...

- The response came quite a while after the original post, and additions are generally tacked on as in this post (that's no main reason tho)
- The response from pof is very lengthy, and would probably be teasered on the front page anyway
- The response from olipro isn't appropriate for the front page
- The discussion around the topic at xda-devs may well be of interest to the reader

P

Now you see we are kinda getting somewhere - and I agree with what you've said. However, I STILL find it hard to believe that a short 1/2 sentence quote from POF's statement basically saying "I disagree" would have looked better from Modaco's point of view, and been fairer to POF. No agreement there?

But you haven't explained paul.

I don't have a problem with the news being reported - it is surely newsworthy. I can even kind of see what thought processes went into the original article - but theres no quote from POF, nothing but a link.... I don't see why.

Granted, in an ideal world I would have had a response up from pof quicker, but it didn't happen that way. I DID request a response at the earliest possible opportunity, however I felt the news (about the unlock now Florin's rant!) was important enough to post it immediately.

P

As I see it (which people may differ from), you should have either:

Removed the screengrab at the earlier chance, or, added POF's response.

The current news story is completely unacceptable in my opinion.

Mate, that's what I would call flaming and what I would call inappropriate content for linking from the front page.

With regards to...
...I personally left that that was the best way. The responses were primarily from pof and olipro, and again, I wouldn't be comfortable posting olipro's response on the front page. They also deserve to be read in context.

To be honest, some of our content above was rude, offensive and unnecessary, and if you wish to claim I don't give a s*** about morals these days anyway do you? then I fail to see why I should be concerned about your posting on or reading MoDaCo for that matter.

I'll leave the topic unlocked for the time being...

P

OK, Understood, so if i remove / rework the sections of my post you feel aren't suitable for the frontpage (And I don't disagree there), will you return this thread to where it belongs? Its an ongoing news story, and criticism of modaco about how it has been covered. Its still ongoing, by most posters admission, so should be in the news section. Not buried in the lounge.

Or you could just vote yes like myself because unlike the self satisfying "fair and balanced" news reporting allegations be spouted by M.S. (which are of course complete nonsense. Who are you, Fox News? Fair and balanced? Haha!) you could just realise that sometimes stuff gets reported as it happens and you have to wait for the story to unfold. Its not like Paul posted the story damning everyone to hell, apart from IMEI-check.

Paul posted the news as it came in. Then he posted the responses as he got them. POF even apologised for the delay in his reply.

Get a grip.

And exactly which part of "no imei-check Kaiser unlock" can anyone tell me was not accurate. Or indeed fair. However fair reporting the basic fact that they will not be releasing an unlock can be, regardless of the reasons why. If the headline was "No imei-check Kaiser unlock due to blatent IP theft and legal case pending" then i can see where you're coming from. But it wasn't.

No but the post was. My problems are two fold:

1) I can't get my head around why Paul would post a rant without any kind of 'other side' comment. If he had linked to the rant, maybe I could see past it, but to copy a screengrab to the newsport.... its unthinkable.

2) The problem right now - the screengrab and full rant remains, but POF's response just gets a small text link at the bottom of the story. How was this even considered acceptable?

No need for "Allegedly" - Modaco are happy to post opinion, rants, rubbish as complete fact.

OK, I guess this applies to me - I'll reword my post so it is less offensive, and I'd like you to move it back to the news area, since it is still current major news.

Fine, maybe you could advise me how best to NOT flame, but try and get you to listen to the people disagreeing with you, rather than just palming them off with excuse and excuse, half of which don't make sense.

The last thing I want is to cause the locking of this thread - because I know thats exactly what you'd like to happen, you've already tried burying it in "The Lounge" I see.

I'll try a straight forward question to start, and I've put my 'nice' hat on:

Why do you include a full screengrab of florin's rant, which has been proven at least partially wrong, but only include a pitiful forum post link to POF's response?

I haven't voted yet but I'm sure the vote will be fair and accurate, just like the reporting, as shown in the screen grab below. wink.gif

M.S

Ahh I said I'd never post on Modaco again but this is simply too good to miss.

Why is it, that back in the day, every free unlocker was posted to the Modaco front page for all to see. Free, or paid for - we heard about it.
Why is it that when IMEI-CHECK was started, and became a plus partner, its own unlocks were posted immediately to much approval, but unlocks from the XDA-Devs site were very noticable by their absense. Indeed even talk of some was advised against by the mod team, for fear they were classed as Warez

This entire thing STINKS Paul, and your not stupid enough to not realise it. You have a big screengrab of serious and false allegations. You've been blasted by your own members, and your response, which you seem happy with, is to include a small addon link to a response, and sarcastic responses to people who disagree with you.

Big news story full of theft allegations vs. a link to a forum post.

Really honourable Paul, but then you don't give a s*** about morals these days anyway do you?

-----

As for the whole florin_m thing.... I wouldn't have expected anything less. This is the guy who during the first beta of his first unlock claimed he would never ask for money, never sell out, never go against the community. The guy who ****s over anyone who comes close to unlocking.

Remember Zone_MR is an unlocker too - also threatened by Florin. The guy is a complete wankstain on humanity, and he's had this coming for a long time.

I say to everyone pissed off at this stupid rant by florin - get yourselves to XDA Developers and help POF in ANY possible way you can. Free the phones!

----------

By the way - don't expect much from the poll. Theres plenty of people (Confucious for example), so desperate to be a mod, they will arselick Paul on his way to the ends of the earth. Besides, you don't think Paul will be man enough to admit he was wrong anyway do you?

By the way - why is the poll going up AND down?

Exactly. Esp for people (e.g. Orange or O2 users) who don't have unlimited data plans :-)

But for Plus subscribers (such as myself) we are supposed to get MoDaCo ad free, but obviously not "anti adblock" banner free.

This is interesting:
http://adblockplus.org/blog/ads-dont-generate-money

Actually, Paul should just read this instead:

http://blog.studiorockstar.com/2007/adblock-doesnt-scare-me

In fact I've rapidly become more and more pissed off at this entire thread (the topic, not posters) Certainly from my point of view, it will change nothing, and I hope others will also refuse to be pushed into things by stupid banners.

I will be using Greasemonkey to block the anti-adblock stuff, just because I can. Immature? Yes, but if you read into things (find your own links, not just the ones displayed in this thread), Paul is talking absolute arse/greed. I think Modaco's early success went to his head a bit, and while other sites have moved forward, this has stood still. The is just another example of how he is no longer interested in the community, unless it puts money in his pocket.

Please send hatemail somewhere else, because I'm bowing out of this thread now, and probably Modaco too, since I'm completely and utterly disillusioned with the entire setup.

i dont think you separate the two arguments...

at the end of the day, we are a community. in any community, the people that have talents use them as a barter or as some form of legal tender. Paul has established an excellent community that acts as a conduit for a vast number of people skills and experience. In bringing that knwoledge to the internet, costs are incurred. Its not as if there is a direct attempt to commercialize the community, no-one is forced to go Plus or even ad-free but the costs still need to be met.

although i do understand the security implications of allowing ads thru various blockers, i dont block Modaco (never did) and would luv it if i could persuade my wife to let me blow the months nappy budget on a Plus sub.

as far as i am concerned, if Paul (and any others) make a profit from the various Modaco operations, its because they do a bloody good job at making my gadget life a measurable amount better!

OK, but say he is making a profit. He's making that profit by making me use more of my bandwidth. I don't agree with that, so will leave my blocker as is?

Or... another example... say I joined modaco at the start, and more and more ads appeared on the site, to an extent I was unhappy with, and decided to block them.... should I leave/be banned from the site?

Just playing devils advocate here.....

I have a question... its probably pointless but hey....

What is the modaco policy? Say someone refuses to unblock modaco right.... im not talking about someone making a fuss... but just in theory..... is the policy that if you are unwilling to view ads, you should leave modaco?

just interested to know how far this goes etc...

by accessing modaco, are we/I agreeing to view the ads?

(im ignoring moral reasons for now)
