Hmmm.... I'm having a strange problem. I've installed everything as instructed (using the pop-up menu script), and the problem I'm having is that the URL is not being pasted into OM4. The URL page opens (via script) but pastes nothing into the field and then closes the URL page. So, it seems like on my Vox (WM6, new ROM) the cut'n'pasting bit isn't working properly. Wondering if the new ROM is the culprit (never tried this on the original ROM) or do I need VITO's cut'n'paste application installed? Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jon |

no its not a skin actually. It just does away with the manual editing of the shortcut files (.lnk files). and you dont need to run this in startup, use this whenever you want to change the speed settings. Thats it. and yeah you need TPC running at startup, you can insert TPC at startup using this application. this is just the first version. I'll be posting changelog with newer versions. By the way, I got too aggressive with the OC speeds and I lost everything. Every time it booted up, it hung immediately. After about 10 attempts at trying to halt the OC during boot, it decided to hard-reset itself and I lost everything I'd done on the phone. It's now back to OEM install. BUMMER! What's the highest safe speed people have found to be reliable on their VOX's? I do have Sprite Backup and I'm doing a restore now, but it's from 2 months ago. At least it's something, and I hope it works... Jon |

I have written a small program Vox-OC to assist with overclocking Vox using Tornado Power Control(TPC). No more playing around with the shortcut(.lnk) files required to change the speed. This application will allow you to easily change the speed by selecting the speed from the application. All the th ree states of TPC (Power_On, Power_Backlightoff, Power_UserIdle) can be tweaked using this application. This program also includes Load.exe to start TPC in hidden state, it will be placed in the "\Program Files\" directory. In addition you can now easily add or remove TPC from the startup using this application. This application depends on TPC so make sure that you have it installed on your device memory (not in storage card). Installation : 1. Install TPC on device memory. [attachment=23667:TornadoP...ontrol14.cab] 2. Install Vox OC on device memory. [attachment=23668:VoxOC_Setup.CAB] 3. Done Now start Vox-OC from start menu and adjust the speed This application will work on all devices where TPC works. I have tested only on VOX because thats the only device I have. People with other devices, Do let me know if it works fine on your device. p.s. On uninstalling this will remove load.exe from "\Program Files\" directory, so if you want to keep using TPC without Vox-OC make sure you backup Load.exe. edit: program updated. there was a small mistake reinstall with the updated program. Hi. Great app! So, question: Is this just like a "skin" (or front-end GUI) for TPC? Or do I need to run Vox-OC in my startup applications and have it running all the time? Or is a one-and-done app once the numbers are set? And, can you note what you changed in the latest version? Changelogs are always appreciated. Any info appreciated... Thanks, Jon |

Never mind.. ;) .. Building my own now... My first mobile app... Currently I've got auto sync on app launch, and deactivate bluetooth afterwards.. Currently trying to make autosync without seeing the activesync window... After that I'll add check if bluetooth already activated, if it is then leave it on.. If not disable again.. And then finally I'll add scheduler to activate the autosync, so expect a version from me soon (Hopefully during next week, if I've got time).. I'll release here on modaco first.. After first release I'll be more than happy to take suggestions... Cyberdude... that's awesome dude! Looking forward to it. Esp since the 'demo' above isn't installing on my Vox for some reason. (?) re: schedule.. that's key! My suggestion would be to enable it to kick off once every hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, 8 hours, once a day, and weekdays or every day. I personally would pick every 4 hours for weekdays only. |

Well, guess that link that I posted of the cached site doesn't work anymore...I managed to snag the Demo version, which said that it was 1 use only, but it seems to be syncing fine for me for the last 2 days...Anyways, here's the file. BTW, I use this with phonealarm, and have it auto-start at night when I get home...saves the battery on my stupid blackjack...works a treat so far... Oh, if you don't have it installed already, you'll need to update windows net 2.0 compact framework...a 5MB install, i think... AWESOME! Thanks, and here's to hoping it's a faulty demo! |

I dont think so You can keep the backlight on for as much time as you like going by the average mtbf it will take at least 5 years for your backlight to conk off if you use it 20 hrs a day and another 3 years for your LCD I guess you would buy a new device much before that happens That is great news, thanks. What are you basing this info from? Official specs for the components? |

Could you please help me with safer overclocking speed for HTC S710? I installed Tormado PowerControl application but I am a little worried about a possible damage to my S710. Thanks in advance for your help. 228mhz is safe. Been running it in the "full power/Power_On.lnk" mode for months with no problems. |

I just got a docking station for my Vox, and now that it's standing up while charging at home, I would like the LCD screen to always remain "on" so that I can quickly glance to see if I have any missed calls or voicemails as I walk by. I can set my PhoneAlarm SP to make this happen, but I am concerned about the lifespan of the backlight. I used to do with with my little Nokia 6230 for years and never had a problem. Just wanted to get sense from the experts here -- am I risking the lifespan of my LCD by keeping the backlight ON for 20 or so hours each day? Any info appreciated. Thanks, Jon |

UPDATE: This program can be found at http://www.airfagev.com/downloads1.asp?id=98 or a direct link at http://www.airfagev.com/apps/BTAutoSync-SP-v0.0.3.zip Thanks newjohnny... but this is not the WM5 version. It's the older version for PocketPC 2003 and older. It does not work on my WM6 Vox. |

i had my repaired it cost £40 in total i think or was it 45? i cant remeber. 20 for labour 5 for postage and 15 for front of case and new rubber cover for usb and card slot. I've seen an OEM case available online, but have no idea how easy/difficult it is to install. Any idea if those of us in the USA can get HTC to 'repair/replace' the case? |

This is fantastic - works really well, thanks John! (as mentioned before, do mind the spelling of the 3rd link file though) Fixed the spelling, folks. Idle is now spelled properly. Thanks for the feedback, and glad to help. Also, updated the guide to talk about unlocking the phone before it'll work, and the lack of need to install both omap and tornado. Jon |

So, I've been doing research on what phone I should get, and I had decided on the S710, but then they released the S730. I looked on MobilePlanet and at first the release date was set for November 21st, so I figured I would wait, but now it says December 8th, and I'm getting a little impatient. I know the S730 has minor upgrades, but nothing has really changed between the S710 and S730. I was wondering if maybe I'm wrong, and maybe there is something about the S730 that would make me want to wait to get it rather than buying the S710 now. If someone could post like a compare and contrast of both phones, that would be great. Thanks I was really looking forward to the S730, but I am less interested now for the following reasons:

Sorry about that... let me be more specific: My Vox finally shows "ActiveSync" as a service on the list of bluetooth services (this is the first time ever, thanks to your registry suggestions). However, the wheel on the ActiveSync application on my PC never turns green and actually connects to the phone. So, while the PC has a bluetooth connection, and the Vox now sees ActiveSync service from the PC, the ActiveSync application itself is still not noticing the phone. I do have the right port set (Com Port 6) which matches my bluetooth stack Com port setting of 6. Hopefully this clarifies the situation. Thanks again for the help. Jon FYI and FWIW, the advice in this thread WORKED. So, for those who were told that they have to hard reset the Vox to get bluetooth/ActiveSync working, this is no longer true. THANKS MUCH! Now, onto my next question -- how to automatically launch an ActiveSync connection on a regular basis? I'm stunned that the ActiveSync PC application doesn't provide this service, but since it doesn't, it looks like the Vox will need to take on the responsibility. I've already created a script that initiates a bluetooth ActiveSync connection from the Vox, but what I'm missing is some kind of tool that will launch this script (.lnk file) every x hours on weekdays. I do own PhoneAlarm SP, but I'm not exactly sure that's the right tool for this situation. Any info appreciated. Thanks, Jon |

I agreee with you there. There seems to be a refusal by the wm6 smartphone community to put a well done guide together. I've tried understanding it myself put it's confusing. You need omapclock to change speed, then tornado control to keep omap clock running, then another program I think to interact with tornado control. Even once you get all the files you then need to make links or shortcuts with commands in them. I think that's how it goes. I tried last night but gave up. Good news. It does work. It was hell finding the info online to make it work, though. Sure, the info is out there, but you'd need to already be a smartphone wiz to figure it out. So, let me try to put it in English and spell out all the steps. Here's what you need: tornado power control application (available here) The omapclock application that you'll also need should already be bundled in the above tornado power control app, but just in case it's not, you can get it here. And, make sure your phone is "application unlocked" otherwise the tornado power control app won't run (you'll get a "Can't Map I/O" error). Download the CAB file for Tornado (and omapclock if need be) and install like you would any application. That means copying them to your S710 via bluetooth or ActiveSync, and then running them on your phone to start the application setup process. Now you need to link the two together. How? Well, the nature of the tornado control application is to launch files based on internal phone events. In this situation, the way to do this is to create "link" filetypes that instantiate omapclock with command line variables to set the appropriate CPU speed. As a result, you need to create 3 link-type files (.lnk) in the same directory as the tornado application on your S710: (the first line is the file name, and the 2nd line is exactly what I typed in notepad on my PC before saving the file as a .lnk file): Power_On.lnk 40#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 252 Power_Backlightoff.lnk 40#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 186 Power_UserIdle.lnk 40#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 186 Once these .lnk files are saved on your PC, you can use ActiveSync or bluetooth to move the files to the \Program Files\TornadoPowerControl directory. Once there, you're almost ready to go... You also need to create a link file type (I call the file TPC.lnk) and put it in the windows/startup folder so that Tornado Power Control loads automatically upon boot. Here is my TPC.lnk file contents: 43#"\Program Files\load.exe" -hide "\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\TornadoPowerControl.exe" bright hide Note that I'm using a program called "load.exe" (available here) that I simply copied to my /program files/ folder - this is optional, but it makes TPC application run in the background and not show up in task manager (which makes the overclocking even more invisible to the user). Actually, this doesn't always work (since I sometimes see Tornado in task manager), but it's still a nice concept. Hope this helps. Jon |

With the lack of availability of BTAutoSync WM5 (the author seems to have dropped off the face of the earth), I am now at a loss as to how to get my HTC S710 WM6 device to automatically sync up with my PC's AutoSync at regular intervals throughout the day. I had a Nokia 6230 for the past 3 years that did this, and now that I've "upgraded" to WM6, I now have to go through 5 keypresses to sync with my PC via bluetooth. This is crazy. So, are there any other applications or configurations that would enable me to establish an autosync process in WM6 every 1,2,4,8,12, or 24 hours? I own PhoneAlarm SP... could I use this at all to instantiate this process? Any info appreciated! Thanks, Jon |

Any news? Has anyone managed to get this program to download? A shame that it looks like the author of this app (version 0.0.5) no longer supports or even sells this app. Does anyone who has WM5.0 still exist? Can you share the app since it's no longer for sale or supported by the author? I would really like to have an app like this. I'd also pay for it, but if paying for it is no longer possible, then I'd at least get a copy of it. |

You can use Tornado Power Control, and create 3 shortcuts:- Power_on (Backlight on - e.g set to 252) Power_BacklightOff (Backlight Dim/off - e.g set to 180) Power_UserIdle (Idle - e.g set to something like 140) See here for downloads, shortcut examples and further info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...mp;postcount=20 Note: You only need Total Commander in the above download instructions to edit the shortcuts, but you can edit them on the PC in notepad, then copy into "\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl" as specified in the post link Also note the risks involved with overclocking... Hope this helps Since there is precious little direct instructions on what these 3 files need to be, I'm going to post my 3 files here (first line is the file name, and the 2nd line is exactly what I typed in notepad before saving the file as a .lnk): Power_On.lnk 60#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 252 Power_Backlightoff.lnk 40#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 186 Power_UserIdel.lnk 40#"\Program Files\TornadoPowerControl\OmapClock.exe" -clock 186 Once these .lnk files are on your PC, you can use ActiveSync or bluetooth to move the files to the \Program Files\TornadoPowerControl directory. Once there, you're almost ready to go... Thats looking like my only option, still very annoying. I was considering heating the rubber flap to see if it goes back to its original shape. Any thoughts? I quickly and easily removed mine, and it's all for the better. I charge every night, so it's actually better to remove it! However, my rubber for my MicroSD card has gotten a bit too big as well, and it frequently dislodges. How can I make it "the right size" again? |

had this problem before, too. the problem is that activesync during bt-pairing wont create a port called activesync, but one called serial port. this is what worked for me: (remember, ur messing with the registry. if you screw your vox, it's yer own fault) delete bluetooth pairings. go to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\ActiveSync". There should be a key with a hex string that looks like this "0016cxxxxxx" or similar. delete it. also, delete the value in "LastConnected" plus set the "Initialized" value to "0". you might need to soft reset (dont quite remember, i'd recommend it tho just to be on the safe side) and re-pair. you will have to re-setup activesync. -ombre- I took a guess and set initialized as a binary and set to 0. The good news; ActiveSync service now shows up on my Vox! Thanks!! The bad news is that I still cannot get ActiveSync to sync up using Bluetooth. I even deleted the device in ActiveSync and then added it again. Still nothing. It does not recognize my Vox, even with BT and discovery set to ON. Any other suggestions? The laptop does indicate that the ActiveSync service is being "accessed" (I have it set to notify me), so all that part is working. My Serial Port and ActiveSync ports match (port 6) as well. Any info appreciated. I feel that I'm much closer now, though... Jon |

I've tried every possible solution (including every tutorial listed here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449), but I am simply unable to ActiveSync via bluetooth between my HTC vox and any of my three PCs. My situation:
The only thing I haven't tried yet is a hard reset. But I really don't want to do that because I've put so much work into tailoring my Vox to-date. So, before I go the hard reset route as a last ditch attempt to solve this problem, I wanted to throw this out there to see if any of the super-smart people here had any advice that might help! Thanksin advance, Jon |

That's the one. They are very slow communicators at this store. They have no 'disassembly' instructions either. Still, if someone has the guts to try it (and document it with photos!) you'd probably be a VoxHero to many of us. Jon |
