Yes I am a geek. I freely admit it. I've stripped a HTC StrTrk using the pinned guide, removed the metal plate cover from the fittings, sprayed it gold ( bear with me ;-) and re-assembled. Now, it looks a bit like Kirk's communicator from the 60's StarTrek series! Gold flip and black base. (Haven't done the battery cover as IIRC that was black on the communicator) Yay!

So where can I get some Star Trek sounds / backgrounds to make me look cool at my next comic convention? I'm using a WM6 rom. I'd like to change the outer screen to the star trek logo. Any ideas?

After how many months of reported issues? Stable doors and Horses bolting springs to mind. How much did they kick back for the nearly 2 year front page promo duping people into signing up exactly?... Must have been substantial for it to stay up for so long after so many problems.

Since the stylus is part of the standard package, it means that the fault should be repaired by them.

Is it really worth it? You can get it out yourself and buy a new stylus ( genuine voda V1605 ones on fleabay are a couple of quid) for a lot less than their £15 orangecare administration charge...

The end of the stylus has come off on my M3100 and the stylus is now stuck inside the phone. I rang OrangeCare (care? Yeah right) who told me they do not repair, but only replace phones and as the phone is in usable condition (I suggested it wasn't as the stylus is not working) they will not touch it.

Any ideas how to get the stylus out without breaking warranty/t & c?

I've done this and removed the old shaft with needle nosed pliers. Push the remaining stubb of plastic into the stylus shaft, then open the jaws in the hole it creates in the shaft and gently ease out pressing the jaws to the sides.

RUU_STARTREK_WM6_4[1].1.502.5_Clean_2.2 wm6 I downloaded originally and used on my smartflip ( and loved!) and now the 3125. The 3125 has 128mb and not only flashed a lot quicker I ( strange!) but is so much faster to use. It's a *really* good phone now IMO!

Now if only they'd done this officially / earlier, this phone would have been so much popular.

To be fair, you're comparing a Hong Kong 'Cameron Sino' brand non genuine battery and cheap nasty rear cover to a branded HTC oem one.

I had a 'Cameron Sino' Qtek 9100 extended battery. The battery seemed fine, the cover was horrendous and didn't fit properly.

They may well be expensive, but it's like comparing the price of Stella at Asda to Tesco value lager....

Slow news day perhaps? Or just Astraware wanting more email registrations for their database?...

Maybe someone could setup a trading database of codes - i.e you borrow one, and replace it with the one they send with your order? That'd really pee them off though so maybe not a project for Paul[MVP] if you wants to keep eXpansys happy.... I regularly do 6 or 7 collection orders in one go of accessories all segmented into small orders just enought to get the £10 off. Bet they hate me ;-)

M.S

p.s they have a HUD bluetooth GPS that samples at 5Hz on their daily special till 3pm. I have one. At night, it rocks! Despite what the tech spec says, it WILL emit the HUD without the car charger plugged in. I use it without a PDA connected....

ROFL ... I get three copies of their newsletter and have never noticed it!

It's not every newsletter they do, it's one that only started recently.

Latest is: "Mobile Newsletter no. 5 - June 2008" ( Featuring the Redfly, out of interest) sent 27th / 6
mobile newsletter no.4 June 2008 didn't have one. Sent 19th/6
No.3 13/6 no
Un-numbered 30th may -Yes
Un-numbered 11th April - Yes

Go back and check, although the codes may be out of date now. It does say 'we'll send 1 per month' so not every newsletter is supposed to have one.

M.S

p.s out of interest their checkout now adds the discount in rather than the pay and refund method they sued to use - a lot easier!

There is NO sales tax in HK.

I'm just curious why under the same company (expansys), the same brand (MWG), how come they cheat UK customers and telling them they enjoy a "discount", when the retail price in the rest of the world is even lower.

That isn't cheating. You're not paying tax on that. On the UK price, we are @ 17.5%.

Add 17.5% to the Hong Kong price....£347 ish..... so we are getting it cheaper before added VAT with the £299 including tax offer. How is complying with the tax laws in a country cheating people off exactly? The standard retail price in Hong Kong is lower as you pay no tax!.....so the UK 'discount' price before tax is cheaper than HK @ £256 ish or about 4,000 HKD.

Please check your facts before accusing people of 'cheating'.

even without rebate, the original price from Expansys Hong Kong is HK$4,585 (i.e. £295), MWG and Expansys are cheating people in UK???

will you still think it's a good deal from MWG / Expansys???

How much is the sales tax in Hong Kong? 17.5% in the UK, items imported are also liable to duty at a certain rate as well. ( If they catch you!)

Marketing budget allocation to tempt those who can't quite afford a diamond?

Would be easier just to take £50 off but then it's perceived value also falls. Would assume it's the same reason HP do 'cashback' offers all year round seemingly!

Plus, like any of these schemes, some always forget to redeem...

Not all devices are "smartphones" - they are now known as Windows Mobile Standard and Windows Mobile Professional (and Classic I guess), but the main forum groups include both these and their previous names.

All phone enabled WM devices are Smartphones according to Microsoft! The device is a Smartphone, the software they run is Windows mobile 'pro' or 'classic'. Just thought for a windows mobile website the forum headings should reflect the new nomenclature.

Now that all phone enabled windows devices are 'smartphones' - don't the sub catagories need a bit of re-jigging / renaming? They should all be in the smartphone section else remove the smarthphone tag and make it purely 'standard / pro'?

Just a thought.

MWg have a stunning offer available this month - claim £50 cash back when you purchase this device!

Order your MWg device between June 20 and July 31 2008, complete this form and send it to MWg with a copy of your invoice and claim £50 back!

- MWg Atom V before cash back claim: £349.95 inc VAT;
- MWg Atom V after cash back claim: £299.95 inc VAT!

Check MWg's cash back claim form for full terms and conditions.

The MWg Atom V is the first Windows Mobile device exclusively designed and launched by MWg (founded by the team responsible for O2’s ground-breaking products in Asia).

Seems a good deal, especially with some of the bundles on offer. MWG worried about loosing sales to the HTC Touch Diamond perhaps?
