Well, as my title says, i have a EeePC 900, and ive installed vista home premium onto it.
This makes two main problems:

Lack of space
Lack of drivers

so, i was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me:

A ) Where can i find any decent EeePC related drivers for vista
&
B ) Is it possible to somehow link the two drives together, so the EeePC thinks they are one drive?

I know this sounds crazy, but it would solve a lot of peoples problems
with issues of running out of space, making Xp or vista complain.

Hope you can help

Ok, well ive just had to re-install windows from the recovery disk Asus have supplied.

it comes with two programs which i have no idea what they do and i dont want and i was wondering what anyone else knows what they are
and if they can be uninstalled, because as everyone may understand, im trying to leave myself as much room as i can tongue.gif

the two are:

Adabas D
Asus OS Cleaner

I also want people to start posting about programs they find usefull on the Eee PCs or software they find works well on them
or anything like that, but only for the windows platform as there is already various resources avaliable for the linux platform.

so yeh, please contribute any of your good or bad experiences with various software on the Eee PC, whichever model you have.

i have burned the .iso onto a disk, simply because i got a usb DVD drive today happy.gif and i wanted an excuse to use it

it loads up fine to a point. you know when it has the little green loading bar thing? after that has done its thing, it just goes blank and then stops doing anything else. any ideas about what i could do?

I simply wanted to start a thread showing my apreciation for the little thing smile.gif
i have a Eee PC 900 with XP on, and it runs quite well

i came to a slight problem  when installing office 07, but found a patch on the Eee PC site
then when i tried installing it, it said i hadnt enough space on my drive for the installation to continue
then i thought i would remove as much as i could, and stupidly removed the "ntldr" file, which is prety vital to XP booting
i now know to get around this lack of space, i could either install office 07 before downloading all of XPs security updates (all trillion of them) or i could simply relocate where the temporary files folder thingy is biggrin.gif

a good thing came out of this though because i then ended up looking for a version of linux that i could use via a SD card, to collect all of my files before re-installing windows. I went strait for my favourite version of linux called puppy, and then found a version tailored for the Eee PC, which is called EeeTiger. This has something called compiz, which adds special effects to almost everything to do with the windows manager. My little Eee PC ran it really well, despite it being quite an intensive 3D program.

Also, whilst still having XP, i used the program called "ProDesktop" which is a 3D design program, which is again rather processor intensive.
now, my desktop pc has 2GB ram and a 3.4 GHz Processor and yet, the Eee PC ran it better and smoother than on my pc biggrin.gif

It really is incredible happy.gif

now im just waiting for my usb dvd drive to turn up tomorrow so i can re-install XP and get back to using it normally, but im still keeping that linux version on a memory stick just to play with.

anyone else want to share their stories? not asking for help or anything like that, just sharing experiences you have had...

I was wondering how would i go about changing what various hardware keys did?

What i want to do is change:

Volume up (long press) to OneNote
Volume down (long press) to Wifi On
Home (long press) to task manager

(or some similar variation on these)

I was wondering if its possible to replace the task manager from the one on WM6.0 to one similar to the one avaliable on 6.1?

finally i wanted some peoples advice on what is out there in regards to threaded sms

im currently using the new Orange ROM on my Vox, but its not letting me app unlock my device in any way. i have posted another thread asking for help on this. i have decided that if i dont get any further with that, then i will just use another rom, but i really like the orange homescreen with the panel down the left side.

any idea where i might be able to get something like that?

I have a vodafone V1415, running the new Orange ROM, on the Blyk network

My phone will NOT app unlock

I have tried pauls app unlock thing and someone elses (cant remember whos)
and the Security Configuration Manager that microsoft supplies.

I cannot go to any network for certificates due to my confusing combination
of phone rom and network :S

any ideas anyone?

its only letting me install a couple of things, but not the more important things i need sad.gif

ok, im not a complete newb, but i dont know anything about xml
i know what xml files are just about, but not about how to use them other than "paste them to your home folder" or similar things wink.gif

I have recently flashed Dr Gonzos 6.1 rom onto my vox, and its all prety amazing

but there is one thing i would like to change.

i dont use the image plugin on the homescreen so i was wondering how to change it to access something else

i want it to access "OneNote"
all i want is for it to say "OneNote" and to open the program when i click it

can anyone help me with how to do this?

my searchy powers failed me when trying to find anything

thanks in advance if anyone can help me smile.gif

cris

(i know it would be more appropriate to put this into the vox section, but i meantioned it in a previous thread and had no luck, so i am putting one here)

well, in responce to Gunde, i was using PocketPlayer, which is a nice music player, but i prefer the simplicity of the microsoft and htc music players.

my pc has decided to actually let my vox connect to it, so i have now re-flashed it after downloading the rom for a second time and everything seems to work so far happy.gif

Well, i flashed the rom to my vox about a week ago, and the difference between 6.0 & 6.1 is amazing
theres so many little things that make my vox even mroe usefull

but i have these following problems:

Windows Media Player - Doesn't play beyond one song. It can manage one song ok, but then it crashes and i have to restart my device

HTC Audio Manager - Isnt finding my music. Using the old rom, the A/M searched for music whenever i opened it, now it just doesnt search for music at all.

Activesync - Does not want to connect in any way shape or form. This is problematic because im just starting to fully use the full range of programs for helping my life stay in order

Battery Monitor - This never seems to show the right status. Sometimes it shows the charging logo when its not chargins, and doesnt when it is. This is very problematic because im overclocking all the time (other wise its too slow) which eats up battery.

The music programs are vital to me as i used to use my vox mainly for music, but i have found other software to fill that gap (although it is a trial and it will run out soon, any idea for alternatives?)

Also, is there any alternative to using Activesync that will sync with Outlook and OneNote?
(and not device center, as i dont have vista)

thanks in advance

first of all its not free, but it gives a 31 day trial
it scans the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file for your playlists and then lists them
you select what playlists you want to sync by ticking boxes
and it then should sync your music to the location on your phone that you specify

sadly i havent got it to work, but computers, no matter how much i play about with them,
they never seem to work for me the way theyre meant to.

hope someone else has more luck with it

Hi, i have tried using the internet sharing app

when you open it, it asks what type of "network connection" you want to use
on my vox it has these options:

Business Email
Contract Internet
Contract Wap
PAYT Internet
PAYT Wap

But nothing about using the built in WIFI

I hoped that i could use my homes wifi connection through my vox to get the net on my laptop
but as of yet, all it seems to want to do is use up my credit

(which i dont have much of because im a student)

Does anyone have any idea of what i could try? or does anyone else have anything different in their list?

QUOTE(Wombleuk @ Jan 1 2008, 14:42) *
Last night, I drained my battery whilst away from home without a charger.
Charged it up on the way back today, but when I switch it on it cycles through the Vodafone and Windows Mobile startup screens, but won't actually boot.

Any ideas how I can get it up and running again?
thanks,
Graham

Never mind. I found an earlier post, which advised removing the SD card, which worked!

hiya

i had the same problem on my phone, after installing the new comm manager app from here. If you take out the battery and then the sim, re-insert the battery and start it, then put the sim back in and start it yet again, it works
(well, it does for me)

just whilst i meantioned it, anyone know where i could find a cab for the original comm manager, or would i have to find a new rom to get it back?
