I'm not aware of any t-mobile data plans that charge per bit. Of course, I only know t-mobile USA so I guess it could be different in another country. When I bought my Shadow my sales guy told me the exact thing. Must be some sales sheet they are reading off of. I told him to just stick with his current job of entering in my customer information. He got quiet after that, and I never heard any more of it. After using the SDA with 2+ years of Wi-Fi connectivity, I can report with certainty that no charges are made to your account. |

Isn't that weird how some people are getting it, and some people aren't? In the back of my mind, I have the feeling that this is what happens when you don't completely clean out the old OS, but install something on top of it. In my previous WM6 custom ROM testing, we ALWAYS used to say that for making sure that no weird things happen, do a "format BINFS" with Tera Term. We had seen that sometimes some files get left over in the space not taken up by the new ROM, and can cause problems. That's one theory of what could be happening here. The ROM upgrade process (I believe) does not format the device, and merely installs over the current OS. That may result in different behaviours for different people depending on what was installed on their phones. Worth about $0.02. |

I use a Registry hack to force my Data Connections to stay 'ON' All the Time, so I always see the [E] on my shadow. I of course had to reapply the hack after the update. Yes. But is it the "E" in the middle of the icon bar, or by the battery bar? The hack enables an always-on GPRS connection, and I suspect you are seeing the "E" constantly by the battery bar. Right? |

Since there are several different discussions going on, I thought I'd put one up specifically for the one that's bothering me. What the heck happened to the "E" Edge icon? It appears when the phone is accessing the Edge network for internet access. Otherwise... MIA. For some time I thought that the Edge coverage in Chicago had dropped. But that doesn't make sense, 'cause little icon appears. Some people have reported that the icon came back after 30 mins or so. Mine has been left overnight, and it's still the same. Can we have some theories on what happened, and how to solve this? I can't imagine that this is a design issue... Does T-Mobile really not want us to know that they have a slower Edge network, while everyone else is going 3G? EDIT: Just got this from Allshadow.com. Check out this link which explains some of the new changes, including the Edge icon being removed. That's weird why they would decide to take it out. And even more weird that some users see it coming back. Now I feel frightened for them - did their update go as planned? |

Well actually I have one such thing going on!! I call it the Neo Dockstation ( http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...ckstation#p3790 ) and its nothing but a dynamic layout builder and switcher. It lets me load different plugins on those 20, rather its 27, pixels. The big problem is that plugins like FizzWeather do not allow themselves to be non-selectable; so when I loaded FizzWeather at the top, the functionality of the neo home screen became one-way, meaning pressing up on the D-pad takes me to the top bar and not to the previous tab on Neo. So, I guess either you find plugins that are not-selectable or write your own. I have a WMP Now Playing already written and am now working on a Yahoo Weather!. Once I have them, I shall release the dockstation. Hey Rinku! Now that would be an amazing thing! I was thinking if anyone can do it, it would be you... Actually... I do need a little bit of expert advise from you. Since you had authored the icon bar, maybe you know the guts of how the top display works. Check out this thread and see if you have any insights. Sorry for others for being a little off topic here... Maybe this should have been a PM... |

Is it just me or has the Edge icon disappeared? Hmmm.. there's a registry setting for that I think... Yep. Hard reset, and still nothing. No "E" to tell me what coverage I have. But when I access the GPRS network, then I see the little E by the signal strength bars. |

C'mon, no one is willing to bric... uh, enhance their shadow for the sake of the community? All these enhancements are things you should be able to just download so I bet tmo is using them as a carrot to get users to download the upgrade to fix the real issues. The rom file (ruu_signed.nbh) is dated 1/28/2008. Just finished updating. Went without any hitches. Now back to customizing and reinstalling programs. Good thing I've had lots of practice with my SDA and WM6. The BIGGEST thing I was looking for was the splitting of Text/Multimedia messages into separate categories. I personally like that better. No change in that here. The pics are OK, and this is your dream ROM if you're a fan of Avril Lavigne or Dave Mathews Band (one song each included). Still playing with it... Maybe others can chime in as they find things. |

Hey guys. I'm jumping into this forum from XDA where I've had a great time. I just upgraded from my SDA to a Shadow. Other than getting depressed at how little some posters paid for their Shadow (I got the $139 deal with a 2y contract), I'm liking what I see so far. This post has several thoughts running through it as I introduce myself. My experience with T-Mobile as far as software upgrades go is pretty bleak. The SDA was completely passed over for the firmware upgrade that it's older brother, the MDA got. I really hope the Shadow doesn't get the same fate. I read the posts where users have spotted the area where the Shadow upgrade is supposedly to be found, only to see it missing. Hmm... Ok.. so now the question that this topic heading is asking. I've been reading through different users customizing the main Shadow theme. I believe this is called Neo. I really like it so far. But it looks like there isn't any easy way of editing this homescreen. In my SDA, I had customized my homescreen by moving around the plugins in the XML file. What I really want on my Shadow is to have the Neo homescreen with the Fizzweather plugin under the Home icon. There's a whole lot of real estate there that seems to be doing nothing. Any wise souls have comments on whether this is possible?? Thanks guys. Hope to stick around here for a long time! |

Phone details: T-Mobile SDA with EA's WM6 ROM I have been trying to find a weather plugin that will work with my home screen. I came across Fizzweather that seemed to be the ticket. And at first install, it seems perfect. Nice graphics, great UI, and good options. But then I noticed that when the program is downloading data, it locks up the phone. The first time I had installed the program to my SD card, and I couldn't even reboot the phone. It would always stay stuck in the second splash screen. Ok.. Reflash the phone. Next time I installed it to main memory. Same locking up. But this time I was able to reboot, and then uninstall. Does anyone have any experience running this on Tornadoes with WM6? Why is it locking up? And then, does anyone have any suggestions for good and stable plugins for weather? Thanks!!! |

Device: SDA I used to be able to use the Internet Explorer in my SDA to view any web pages I want (I am in the Chicago area). A few months ago, I found that my connection no longer works. I am no longer able to browse *any* web pages. The strange thing is that when I travel to Minneapolis, my connection is restored, but as soon as I touch back down in Chicago, it's gone. A basic question is: Do I need to subscribe to the Data package from T-Mobile to be able to browse web sites? I would think so, but all over this forum I see postings for what GPRS settings should be, and I am assuming that some of the people posting aren't data subscribers... Or am I wrong? If I don't need to be a data plan subscriber, can someone please guide me through the settings. There are a variety of settings that I see that date back to 2003 and before, and it would be nice to get settings that work in 2007. Thanks very much. |
