.SMC files? Isn't that Sega Master System games? Then you would want SmartGear. It does cost 10 bucks, but it's a beefy emu.

Just a head's up, I did find a program called FrostZ while digging around for a Zmachine interpreter for WM5 SmartPhones and it is for WM5, just not SmartPhone edition. Also, it does predate the iPhone interpreter! Oh yeah, and he did post his source code on his website for people to tool around with it. Can anyone try to port this to WM5 SmartPhone or WM6?

No one willing to help a guy out even after I practically hand out a good looking source code?

(This is also known as a bump.)

Yes indeed... especially as most of the questions had a strong American bias, and most U.K. players, even if they were over the required age, probably wouldn't have known some of the answers anyway!

Happy Days!

This is bittersweet, because by looking at that screen shot, it appears this is sadly just a port of the sub-par java cell phone version that was watered-down and sugared-up to make it less risqué. However, this is about the only way you can play any version of Larry's last true adventure before the death of the original Sierra. This is a butchered version of the game that was "accidentally" omitted from the Vivendi re-release of the Larry collection. (The only reason they "accidentally" left this game out of the collection is because they didn't want to have to try to sell the collection with an ESRB Rating of "AO" for Adults Only due to the fact that some of the easter eggs in the game allowed you to see pixelated female nudity.) However, I did appreciate the fact that they threw some fun little cool stuff for old Sierra fans, such as cameos by Ken and Roberta Williams (co-founders of Sierra On-Line), and Larry's creator himself, Al Lowe. All in all, kind of a mixed bag for adventure fans.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but "Flashback" is not the sequel (or successor) to "Another World" ("Out of This World"). In fact, the original designer never intended the game to have one! Although Interplay did make an unofficial sequel with his begruding blessing that retells "Another World" from your alien buddy's perspective. Interplay called it "Heart of the Alien-Out of This World Part 2" which was released only on SegaCD. Yeah, I know, reaaaaaal original. Also, most of the graphics for "Flashback" are actually rotoscoped, not vector graphics. Also, Interplay published "Out of This World" in the US, but U.S. Gold (now owned by Eidos and discontinued) published "Flashback."

Also, "Flashback" does have a sequel known as "Fade to Black" that does use vector graphics.

No new news to report on anything from my friend who was working on this, anyone else trying to put one of these together for QVGA smartphones?

I'm really with you on this. I just got a Blackjack II and that built-in KB is just calling out to me for some classic on the go interactive fiction. I've got a ton of development experience but ZERO on the smartphone.

If masterall or one of the other gurus isn't working on it, I could give it a shot but I'd need some sort of getting started setup... are the Smartphone development tools free? I know embedded VC++ 4 was... how about a GCC port?

Actually, if you dig around on the Microsoft Smartphone website, I think you might find some tools there for software development. I thought I saw a template or two for different models of SmartPhone emulations or something.

Well, new update, I had been in email contact with someone who was working on a retooling of this interpreter because he didn't like the way it handled certain aspects of the emulations. He even sent me a beta build of his latest version, but it wouldn't run because it was unable to display on a landscape setting automatically. So, back to square one, I suppose.

Hey masterall, you think you could work with this emulator? I love your PocketSNES emu. I would love to see what you can do with this already beefy program on a QVGA setup.

Judging by the fact you're using a stylus to control the game, I'm going to assume this probably won't work on an actual smartphone, huh?

Actually, I might have something here that may interest some of you porters out there, an interpreter for Windows Mobile Standard edition. It looks pretty beefy, so it looks like a great place to start! Its called FrostZ and here's the link to the guy's site.

http://jpdefault.altervista.org/?p=software&id=frostz

It looks like the iPhone version of Frotz, but this one came first! Take THAT, iPhone!

He included his source code on the site, so have at it, porters!

Way too much free time on my hands at work, and want to play some INFOCOM games between calls. Anyone got a good Z Machine Interpreter for WM5 that works on a QVGA screen?
