One of the few disappointing flaws in PocketInformant is the way Alarm Notes work (actually, don't work) with my TyTN II (and iPAQ 4705). Since WM 5 the ability to draw Alarm Notes hasn't worked. In addition, the alarm will not wake up the screen, although the sound works (sort of. Actually, because I have a large sound file I have to wait for the entire 15 seconds of music before I gain access to the unit. This is only a problem with PI Alarm Notes.). Anyway, I'd like to find a replacement software package for drawn notes. I've checked out apMemo, which works very well. My only complaint is that the buttons require a stylus because of their size. Would like to find a finger-friendly program. I've also tried BugMe, which has the same small button issue as apMemo, with the additional flaw of not responding well to my finger nail or stylus for quick entry. So, can anyone recommend a program that: 1. Allows for quick drawing. 2. Has alarm capabilities. 3. Is finger-friendly. Thanks in advance. -Bob- |

Well over on xda-devlopers someone told me that the HTC TyTN II will not even work in Panama because of the humidity and the device will be ruined. Does anyone else know if this is true? If so I am so depressed since I just paid $500 for this phone 2 days ago and I bought it specifically since I am moveing to Panama to work. Someone HELP and give me some advice or thoughts on this situation. I read about the humidity issue too (In fact, I responded to it). I've had a TyTN II in Costa Rica (right next door to Panama) since October. It works great. I've also had an old HP iPAQ 4705 in CR for 4 years. It still works. However, I'm on my THIRD laptop. I'd say you should be much more concerned about your laptop than you phone. Since, as far as I know, the TyTN II doesn't have any moving parts, it should do OK. Whether it will survive two or more years remains to be seen. My advise: Don't worry; enjoy the phone! -Bob- |

I'm looking for a compact (preferably vertical) leather pouch for my TyTN II that has a slot for an extra SIM card. Looked all over the web and can't seem to find a basic pouch. Most of the cases are too bulky for me. Any suggestions? |

Thanks. I'll check it out. Mysteriously, the SAME folder has disappeared TWICE, forcing me to reinstall the same piece of software twice! So far, I haven't found any other data to be missing. Weird! -Bob- I now suspect that it's not an SD card problem afterall, but a software issue with Touch Commander! The only folder that disappeared (now 3 times!) has been the Touch Commander folder. I reinstalled the software to the main memory and discovered that even though my user name and password showed in the registration dialog, I had to redo the registration procedure before the new install would allow changes. Could it be possible that the designers of Touch Commander programmed in some sort of auto-destruct if the registration didn't take???? A nasty little time-consumer for the user; a 'Not registered" message would be much better. Anyone else using TC and seeing this issue? -Bob- |

Clean the contacts on the card and the phone with some alcohol, and try panasonic's SD card reformatter. Windoze does not format cards to SD spec. http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/d..._formatter.html "Generally, SD/SDHC Memory Card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with the SD Memory Card specification. " ( And yes, it works on ALL SD cards) M.S Thanks. I'll check it out. Mysteriously, the SAME folder has disappeared TWICE, forcing me to reinstall the same piece of software twice! I had VisualGPSCE and HTC's own GPS tool working when I was in Guanacaste 2 weeks ago. Took a little longer to get a lock than normal and it did lag a little but it was certainly usable when walking. What HTC tool are you using? Other than QuickGPS, is there something I'm missing? Where in Guanacaste?? That's where I am. |

Tried it. Like it! And it's free! Also tried TGPS. It works well too. It's a traditional compass. Don't know if I prefer that or the degree readout of CamerAware. Thanks. -Bob- |

a simple google search bought me to this site: http://freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-tag-compass.html Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I had already tried GPS Compass from that site. While it showed a connection, the compass itself didn't move when I walked. I suspect it needs a much faster movement to work (like in a car). -Bob- |

If not, writing a custom lil app to do this would be pretty easy. P Paul, Yes, you are right. Someone from the XDA forum was kind enough to give me the following MortScript: CODE Message("Signal Check ON") while (1) old_status=status ss=RegRead("HKLM", "\System\State\Phone", "Signal Strength") if(ss<31) status=0 else status=1 endif #Message("ss "&ss&" status"&status&" old"&old_status) if(old_status=0 AND status=1) PlaySound ("\windows_out.wav") endif if(old_status=1 AND status=0) PlaySound ("\windows\1_in.wav") endif Sleep (5000) EndWhile I then wrote another to turn off the script: CODE KillScript( "PhoneSignal.mscr" ) Message("Signal Check OFF") It's amazing what a person can learn from these forums -Bob- |

I live on the very edge of cell phone service. It would be helpful if I could be notified by sound when I have a signal, so if I want to make a call while driving I can pull over and use my phone. Is there a tweak (or app) that would add Phone Signal Connect/Disconnect to the TyTN II? Thanks. -Bob- |

Hey, I've uploaded the full cab here so you can try downloading this. Also incase you still have issues, I've zipped (using 7zip) the file into 1mb sections, which you can download below. Full 2.2mb CAB file Zipped part 1 of 3 Zipped part 2 of 3 Zipped part 3 of 3 Let me know if it works ok for you and if you need anything else, M_Taylor40 Got it! Unfortunately, after installing the software I started having an odd font issue. ![]() Any idea why the fonts are not correct? Thanks. -Bob- |

My TytnII does seem sluggish now after the flash, I flashed the new rom the first day it was out and now the screen doesn't seem to respond every time I tap one it( it just did it again when I used apptodate) and the ok button doesn't work everytime, I was just ignoring it until it was mentioned here, now I see others have the ok button problem. Other than that it seem to work good. Have you tried this registry edit: HKLM>Drivers>TouchPanel>PressureThreshold - Modify to 200 -Bob- |

Is anyone able to remove software with 6.1 installed? I've tried removing apps via AS, the TyTN II dialog and through the application install software. In all cases the entire application is left on the unit. It functions as if the uninstall was never run. The software is also listed as active in both the unit dialog and the AS dialog. So, if you check out a lot of apps (as I do), your install list will get longer and longer. You'll also have to search and guess which files you can delete manually. Are we back to Pocket PC version 1.0???? I've also noticed extreme memory leak as the day goes on. That was not much of an issue with 6.0. Can anyone suggest a good ROM replacement that uses 6.0? It doesn't look like there's a factory version of the original TyTN II 6.0 ROM available. -Bob- |

Things just get weirder and weirder with this ROM. Here are today's adventures: 1. Decided to move the apps that I had installed to main memory because they are part of the Today screen to my SD card. I was hoping to gain program memory. 2. Uninstalled the apps. In all cases got a message saying the apps couldn't be totally uninstalled. Choose to have them removed from the list. 3. After a soft rest, discovered that ALL are still listed as installed! 4. Reinstalled all apps to the SD card. ALL installations failed (According to the message on the screen)! BUT all apps ARE installed and SEEM to be working properly. 5. In the end, I LOST PROGRAM MEMORY, but gained lots of Storage memory! PLEASE! Certainly someone has the original ROM somewhere that I can reinstall. My mom always said "Don't try to put 3 lbs. in a 2 lb. bag." A phrase Micro$oft has obviously never heard. OH, GIVE ME GOOD OLD WM 6.0! That's my rant for today. -Bob- |

I did a soft reset recently, and I noticed the screen was acting odd again. I double checked the settings and they had reverted back to 400. UGH! I guess someone will have to write a cab to keep these settings. I'm not that good though. . . I changed my setting to 200, have done several soft resets. So far it has stuck. -Bob- |

Check this site for the touch settings. http://wiki.modaco.com/index.php?title=HTC_Kaiser You need a registry editor, I use CeRegEditor. I don't remember where I found the download for it. As for the settings, I think I'm running it at 250 or 200 now and it seems to help a lot in PIE. Before I could not pan the page without it selecting a bunch of text. THANKS! Setting it at 200 seems to have made the Today screen much more usable. -Bob- |
