8GB definitely works. What usually happens is that manufacturer published material states a device will support up to size X as that's all they can get their hands on to test. As larger sizes come available, they won't guarantee compatability, but they usually work.

One thought - do you have anything installed that might be changing the Profile? Do you use the Automatic profile and have appointments in your Calendar? I know the Automatic profile silences alerts if your Calendar is busy, but not sure how it actually looks in the Sounds & Notifications settings screens.

Reboot, ensure you're outside away from buildings, try again. Sometimes GPS takes a good few minutes to lock on, sometimes seconds.

I seem to remember you can edit it in the registry, but every time you reboot (or go in/out of coverage) it'll revert. Could be wrong though, not something I've looked into too much.

Wiki?? Sorry for being ignorant! Not sure what you mean.
Delivery are useful, but you cannot select them and mark as unread. You have to go into the mesage to stop it being highlighted as a new message.
From the Important Topics section in this forum there's a link to the Kaiser Wiki.

I think you can enable/disable the message sent dialog in the registry - check in the Wiki for the instructiosn. TBH, i don't see the point in this message anyway, it only means the message has got to the networks, it doesn't mean it's been received - delivery receipts are more useful.

I'd imagine it needs to get at least a few different location fixes in order to be able to determine a direction of travel. The speed probably won't matter but you'd probably have to walk several tens of metres for it give a 'direction'.

it happens on mine too, and yes, perhaps it could be claimed to be not fit for purpose and sent back.

i'm an xp man so I might be wrong, but I think you may be over complicating it trying to find a modem driver. as long as the device shows up in the vistaequivalent of activesync (mobile device manager?) then you should be able just to luanch internet connection sharing from the kaiser and away you go. as jimbo says, you can do it over bluetooth too, but i'd get a usb connction going first to check.
I use it all the time when thieves nick the office copper!

If you visit the Copilot website they have some pretty good instructions on how to 'change device' (at least for my old version 6). I'm guessing it's much the same for version 7 - go into licensing in copilot on the phone, select deactivate license, format device, reinstall Copilot, reactivate license. If you use Copilot Live features on their website you'll also need to 'change device' in there too.

That's cool. I actually wrote to them to see where I could get one from as I couldn't find a UK distributor. I'd happily try it out and provide some feedback.

If you bought a camera that used an SD, MiniSD or MicroSD card, you may have to use an adaptor in the camera but you could just transfer the card then. Not as elegant as USB host functionality, but might be an option.

Even with a 20mph headwind going through it all day (plus whatever speed I was doing), the 'charging' indicator on the phone stopped after 5 hours. But the phone was fully charged and good for another few hours I would have thought.

Well I made it to the Peak District. Then I made an error. I turned the screen off. I forgot that three times on two different devices I've done that before and the result is that the CoPilot folder in Program Files wipes itself. Gone. Kaput. Empty. And wouldn't reinstall. I swore. Luckily I had a data connection so could use Google Maps to navigate, but when CoPilot wiped itself I was in a village that I didn't have paper maps for because I'd plotted a pretty peculiar route. The upshot was that I couldn't tie up my location on Google Maps with my memory of the route I wanted and took a wrong turn and had to cycle uphill for an hour to arrive at a pub I'd left nearly two hours earlier. More swearing. Combined with a 20mph headwind the whole day it took me 6 hours to do 28miles. Shocking. Coming back yesterday took 2.75hours.
The cradle and turbine worked well and I easily got a whole day out of the two combined (was impressed considering I had the phone connection on for Google Maps after CoPilot crashed). Couple of things to watch for: if you have a wireless trip computer, the turbine seems to interfere with it when charging a device (resolve by either not charging device or moving trip computer further away). Second, watch out for the USB cable coming loose. Minor niggles (especially compared to the rubbish CoPilot), on the whole I was very happy with my handlebar mount/turbine setup.

If you download the file, there's a pretty good instruction file. You don't need to hard reset first.

That is good news! smile.gif

Let us know how it goes. At least now I can flash back to an official ROM if the IT Dept ever want their phone back.

And welcome too

For those who might know about radio versions and such things, the filename is RUU_Kaiser_VF_UK_3.28.161.1_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe Is it worth me having?

I'm not sure the turbine itself will give enough power to charge the phone, but it contains a 1000mAh battery that it trickle charges. If I set off for a whole day with the Kaiser and the turbine fully charged, I really hope I get a whole day out of it. I will let you know (assuming I don't get lost in the Peak District due to not having enough power!).

Yep, the wrist strap is looped round the handlebars. Seemed to work quite well on the commute in this morning using CoPilot's 'walking' mode. It jumped in the cradle a couple of times (down kerbs/potholes (Sheffield won a poll recently for the worst roads in the country as the council hadn't resurfaced a single road in 10+ years - don't know where the money went...)). I think for piece of mind on long journeys I will stick a rubber band round it too. The turbine merrily charged away and I got to work with my phone fully charged. I think I may have found my solution!

My Herbert Richter bike mount arrived this morning. Looks good - it can be twisted too so I can mount it exatly how I want.
I've managed to mount my turbine in a very good place which means it's out of the way (had to lose the bell from my handlebars though).
Only concern is that the phone may jump out of the holder. I'm toying with three solutions, either to put a rubber band round it (tacky, obtrusive), or put some kind of foam pad in the holder so that the phone doesn't slide up so easily (increase the friction), or possibly put a wrist strap (from my camera) through the lanyard holder on the phone and loop it round the handlebars. I think I like the last option best - it's unlikely with my riding that I'd encounter such a bump to jar the phone loose, but if I were to do so it would just dangle from the handlebars and doesn't obstruct the screen at all.

I had the 6.0 v1615 and my colleague now has the 6.1 v1615. The branding is far less intrusive than the Orange stuff. I'm not sure on their choice of default colour scheme though, not to my taste. You can of course stop all the customisations being applied by pulling the battery out on first startup as it starts to say "Installing cusomisations" (or similar).

I note that the HYmini wind turbine has optional solar panels too...

My Hy Mini turbine has just arrived! First impressions - it feels a lot higher quality than I was expecting! smile.gif Even the boxes are sturdy.

I'm up for that. I was also looking a the Freeloader and the optional bike pannier solar panel they do - Supercharger http://www.firebox.com/product/1796/FreeLoader-Solar-Charger as it might possibly have been more versatile. But you can always count on wind when biking, not necessarily sunshine!
It's interesting - I did a four day ride last year and had my phone (then MDA Vario) with me but couldn't use the satnav due to power worries, on my ride to Buxton next week I don't want the hassle of stopping at every junction to check a map. Seems pointless carrying a device and not being able to use it, solar or wind power *may* may be the answer. And is attractive to the geek in me too wink.gif

D'oh! My Expansys order says they won't have stock for 9 days. So I've cancelled it and ordered http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1224/...hter-bike-mount on next day delivery. I have a HR clip for a car mount so I've saved a tenner too. And I know I'll be able to connect a power cable in.
Only thing I'm worried about is the Kaiser bumping out of the top of the cradle, but a rubber band should sort that. Vibration shouldn't be a problem as on my Sheffield>Buxton ride next week I'll be mostly onroad and have suspension. Plus if it dies, I'll have maps as a backup and just claim a new one as it's a work phone smile.gif
