The software you are looking for is "Code Wallet" and there are a couple of other similar apps. It can store phone numbers, email/web passwords, banking details etc and it's encrypted. |

About for a month, i'm trying to figure out what is wrong with my VPA 3 (BA) GSM, it's always disconnecting and bugging, communicator is ok but the phone is terrible i can't call normaly cause time to time i's disconectting the same thing with incoming calls. I tryed reflashing to 1.12, 13, 13.1, 15 Radio modules it's mostly the same, also changed roms 1.40, Helmi 5.04, Xplode's Aku 5.35, Aku 5.35 WM6 fake ROM, no big differences in phone fuction, it's always bugy! No physical damages to PDA happened, also found that then battery gets down to 55% it's starting to bug, then it's charging looks like no problems with connection. I had similar problems caused by a bad sim card once. Incomming calls failed most of the time and on the 20% of the time outgoing calls connect, you'd get dropped after 30 seconds (almost exactly the same length each time!). Try a friends sim card to see if the problems go away. If so, it's time to call to to your carrier to get a new card (or cancel the account |

I'm still using mine, though I don't use the original Orange ROM anymore as it's a bit dated. Quite happy with it as my only phone to be honest, I'd only upgrade for one with integrated GPS and WiFi without being bigger. Haven't seen that phone yet though I've not really been paying too much attention to what's happening. |

Fingers crossed that nothing happens. Iran is a completely different situation than Iraq was prior to our invasion; they actually have a functioning military. |

Found the carrier movement reported in a mainstream media report : http://www.guardian.co.uk/iran/story/0,,20...rticle_continue I didn't find anything to suggest an airstrike is imminent though.. The rumour is that US assets in the area have been instructed to leave. The Russians are the ones leaking it to the press, but no one is picking up on it. This Friday coming sounds likely to me; the weekend is ideal for political reasons and it needs to be this week if they are to capitalize on the "hostage" crisis. By the way, the word there was that they were a special forces reconnaissance team, not "sailors" as is being reported. There has been the odd report of incursions into Iran over the past few years. This story has just broken two minutes ago as we now find more of the backstory behind this incursion into Iranian waters. Apparently we kidnapped five Iranian officials recently. Why do I believe the Iranians over the Brits on where they were? Because we've consistently lied about everything in Iraq. Just last week a US official was claiming it was safe to walk the streets in Baghdad. Out of shot where four apache helicopters, several tanks and over 100 troops. C'mon guys, I was right on Iraq being a monumental mistake, stay with me on this one and get in on the ground floor! |

So why hasn't the media picked up on this ? You can't move aircraft carriers into offensive positions without anyone noticing. Surely the Iranians would be raising a stink about it, not to mention the Russians & other friendly countries ? Yup, they have reported it, just not on regular news. Google search first hit From the first link, dated 17 Jan 2007: QUOTE A second Navy carrier group is steaming toward the Persian Gulf, and NEWSWEEK has learned that a third carrier will likely follow. Iran shot off a few missiles in those same tense waters last week, in a highly publicized test. With Americans and Iranians jousting on the chaotic battleground of Iraq, the chances of a small incident’s spiraling into a crisis are higher than they’ve been in years. If you want to understand why the British are so unpopular in Iran you should read this article in the Guardian : http://www.guardian.co.uk/iran/story/0,,2046290,00.html We are unpopular as we do still meddle in the region. We, with the assistance of the CIA, have overthrown the Iranian government in the past when it has suited out interests. Nothing here surprises me. The Project for the New American Century, comprising of people such as Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz have always been vocal on their plans for the region. See this page for their official publications, where they talk of a Pearl Harbour event leading to an extended campaign in the middle east. |

america can't afford a war with iran financially, politically, morally or militarily. The war starts Friday 6th April from what I'm hearing, starting with a load of airstrikes. The carriers have been moving into position for months. This "hostage" (aka enemy combatant) thing is very conveniently timed. Iranian news is reporting US planes entering their airspace already, probably checking out the reactions and readiness of the ground crews. |

Hmm, that's a pickle. I've been in a similar situation before where I've lost txt messages without reading them. Not cool, would appear very rude to your friends. I believe the messages are stored in a database file. You may be able to find a database viewer program for your phone that will let you view the raw data. However, you could just try replying to each one saying your phone is broke, can't read txts, you don't know who they are and could they call you back. Before doing this, enable "save sent items" and you might even be able to see who it is via the "Sent Items" folder. Actually, you may even be able to reply, save-as-draft and take a look in Drafts to see who it is to. |

I am still looking for software that will allow me to write on the screen and have whatever I write exactly matched in a document, sort of like a drawing program. It would be dead useful for making a really quick note on the fly, instead of typing out on teh keyboard. Everything I search its all about handwriting recognition, I dont want what I write changed. Try Notes Explorer. Not quite a drawing program, but it'll do your notes. Has a few quirks though. http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=5926 |

Apple have truly jumped the shark on this one. Even the slashdot apple fanbois are being outnumbered by the "this is not cool" types. Believe me, that is a first for slashdot IMHO. Hell, I've been active in those discussions and normally it's a huge karma (moderation) hit when you defend windows mobile. Right now I'd say over those threads my posts have been non-moderated, which is good as anything said pro-MS or anti-apple is normally committing suicide over there. I've managed to say both in the same post and get general agreement. Apple, you messed up big this time. Even your astroturfers cannot save you now. You'd better watch out; like google your company depends upon the perception of "cool". Lose that and you are worthless. I can see myself writing an obituary article on Apple in a few years about how they had it all and lost it, much like Yahoo did. |

I presume this is fixed but here's a neat trick you can do: use Googles SMTP server! The good thing about this is that it works over any network, ActiveSync and WiFi. Normally you can only use the server belonging to the network that you are on, meaning you have to change it sometimes. Simply create a google mail account and use the outgoing server they provide. This may require you to tick something in your gmail settings. It requires SSL encryption, which is a very good thing provided your phone can do it. EDIT: here's a link: http://www.lifehacker.com/software/email-a...rver-111166.php |

Hey all, I've not been around much this past year, so I've no doubt missed a whole load of new software and other PPC goodies that this site is usually full of. As there is so much activity here these days, I'm sure I'm not the only one who might have missed the odd gem. So, what's your favorite new thing from 2006? Is it a new smartphone/ppc device that "hit the spot" for you? Or, has your killer-app or best game ever been released? Let me know your thoughts, I'm sure we could all pick up something useful here. Cheers, Fraser. |

Paul - I think it's been showing "In Stores" for a while now, but I can't be 100% sure. It's been saying that since at least 3rd Jan when I posted about it in a thread relating to the PC version in "The Lounge". Been waiting on this one for months though I now suspect it won't run on my Blue Angel (M2000). |

DNS: OK This is a bug with WM5. Cured totally by using workaround as follows: If you have Wifi hard coded to use static IP address and Static DNS server addresses set them to automatic. After you have done this, using the assigned Orange DNS servers (or hard coded ones) via 3G (or GPRS) you wont get the familiar "Locating..." message in Internet Explorer! DNS will be resolved almost immediately. Escalated to Orange for future ROM update fix. I'm not convinced on that. I'd imagine that 99% of the WiFi users out there are using automatic settings already. Static IP is the exception, not the norm. I've only used it during the pre wifi router days, when you only got access points. Even then the wired router it's plugged into most of the time offers DHCP. There's a simple way to check this. Use the Orange DNS server both at peak and off-peak times. If you find that at 4am it works perfectly, then Orange don't have a sufficiently capable DNS server. Secondly, if you do find that non-Orange DNS servers are disproportionately slow, then that simply doesn't make a lot of sense. DNS is just standard IP traffic, using a non-orange DNS server is no different than using a non-orange email server. If it is the case that using hard-coded settings for Orange is slower than hard-coded non-orange, then Orange have a problem. |

There's a AKU 3.2 out as well I believe. AKU 3.0 is pretty nice, at the very least it's a bit prettier and more consistent between the base utils. |

2006 will be a great year for Nintendo. I've always been a little critical of them, never been a fan of the child-like graphics and games. But both the wii and the DS have it right; they have lots of other interesting titles. They seem to be shying away from the old Nintendo. Sure, there will always be platformers to keep the hard-core fans happy, but it's the new wii controler and the interesting things they are doing on the DS that ought to make them huge sellers. It's the next step in the industry IMHO; Sony led the way by targetting an older market with the PSX and Nintendo now have their sights set on getting whole families playing together. |

How does coke zero fair with mentos, that's what I wonder. Personally I like the full-fat coke. I use it more as a pick me up than a regular drink tho...lots of sugar and caffine!! |

I use bacon in my bolognese as well Nedge, along with half a pinch of cinnanmon (try it!). That's the only time I fry bacon, it's grilled crispy bacon for sandwitches, none that stretchy fat mess when you take a bite! Mmmm bacon tastes good...pork chops taste good...but a pig is still a dirty animal! |

The tool CPU-Z (evolved from CPUID) can tell you the memory timings tables for your RAM. It also tells you other things like bios names and revisions; very useful tool. I use memtest86 as well, it's very good. Leave it running for 24 hours if you can. The last time I was having issues it only failed on one particular test after several hours. Have you tried reseting the bios to default? I once managed to change some obscure setting that caused all sorts of subtle issues and I never did work out which setting it was! |

The guys at Portable One were really helpful and responsive and it was that most of all that convinced me to go ahead. Thanks for the responses everyone! |

I just ran this with my Cingular 8125 here in Denver and got 210 kbps on this test. Why, on www.bandwidthplace/speedtest do I get a test result so different? (529.2 kbps now, 492 kbps before this tweak - how can 2 different testing services give such widely different results?) Because it depends on the links between you and them. Try to find one that is close to you, and do it at off-peak hours. And some tests aren't very good anyway. This tweak doesn't increase download speed or bandwidth by the way. It just makes the initial connection start a lot faster by using quicker DNS servers. Every time your ppc looks up "ad.doubleclick.com" will also speed up, so pages with lots of off site images and other content will load quicker. |

Had a user in the MoDaCo irc channel the past couple of nights asking no end of questions calling 'herself' SPV-Girl and then XDA-Girl the next night, not suprisingly everyone jumped to her aid... myself included That's common as hell. Done it myself on other forums when I've had problems getting help on more obscure subjects. Come back as a girl and all the little geeks come running to your aid! |
