I got this from a friend who works for Microsoft... Unzip, copy to device and run from there. It gives you access to Hotmail from the messaging section of the device, it also gives you Windows Live Messenger. i.e. No need to do things over the web-based interface. Just make sure your phone is Application Unlocked, if it isn't then I'm sure "Paul's De-Brand Pack" takes care of that. Hope this helps. .G. |

Buggered 'smashed' or just not working? Screens are £35 or so on fleabay. Orange care is only £5 if you ring up and add it to your account ;-) Warranty can be obtained through http://service.europe.htc.com/Wizard.aspx Using the de-brand pack will make it run quicker. Or get an E610 PAYG for aout £90. Upgrading after 6 months will be expensive. M.S Orange UK? - Bad News. Well, as of February the 4th they changed the rules on upgrades, you can now only upgrade within the last 3 months of your contract. If your are on a 12 month contract then you have to wait for the till months to expire. THEY WILL NOT DO IT EARLY!!! When it is your time to upgrade they split you into 5 bands, 1 being the lowest 5 being the highest - this is depicted my bill spend and whether you go over and above your tariff, and this determines what phones are available for you to upgrade to, i.e. handset costs. Now the Tytn II is an expensive phone and is only free on band 5 - I think! On a lower band say band 3 (£35 tariff -not going over your minutes) you could be looking at £279 or something like that, can't really be that accurate just now as I am not at work nor do I have a price matrix at home. To get a replacement phone from Orange would cost £100 + VAT(added to your next bill) then £6 per month for minimum 12 months. This is called "Emergency Care" and the handset is £100 because it is a smartphone. [note Orange Care has been £6 per month for "new customers", or "those who don't already have it", for at least 1 year or so now. If you had added Orange Care when it was £5 then I think they still only charge £5 unless you cancel it and start it again.] My advice......Ebay! Or Getting it repaired through HTC. If you bought it from a retail shop they can send it away for repair for you but you will be charged for the repair, but to be honest the repairs centres they use for HTC's are sh!t they take 5 - 6 weeks sometimes to come back....if they can be bothered fixing them! Hope this helps.... Happy Days! "Hates His Job" Orange Retail, Glasgow. |

The Orange way could be tricky, we usually require a proof of purchase to send the phone away from a Retail Shop (like the one i work in) and i'm not sure what would they would require over the phone. Besides i don't trust the repair centre especially when it comes to smartphones, their turnaround time is shocking and i'm also never convinced witht their QC process before the phone leaves....AND they have a awful habit of flashing the phone before the phone gets sent back, even if it only needs hardware replacing! So in short, i would send it to HTC! .G. |

Same here...reconned. Good nick mind - looks new. Orange will only DMR (Different Model Replacement) a device if it is out of stock at the time or it has been discontinued, however we try to stock at least 3 months worth of handsets even when a manufacturer has pulled the plug on production.... .G. A couple of weeks ago my phone started generating an SIM error meessage at startup. I then changed ROM from the Orange WM6 to the latest HTC version, and since then i get the same error message.... Missing or invalid SIM please contact you service provider.... The weird thing about this is that I still get the error message, I clear it twice, and it asks me for my PIN and continues to work just fine... I thought that changing the ROM would sort this as I just put the error down to some sort of OS problem initially. Anyone else experienced the same of similar issues? I replaced my SIM to see if that made any difference but that hasn't changed a thing either... .G. |

Does anybody know if there is a way to move the items on the homescreen of the S710? I just use the Windows Default one with the Windows Live plugin and all i would want to do is move some of the items around a bit, like put the Messening item under the one for the Comm Manager etc... is this possible? On another note, i was trying to tidy up my start menu because it is getting too long to scroll thru, and i was trying to put some icons for programs into the "programs" folder thru Windows Explorer on my machine but when i go to move them it tells me they are protected... Does anyone have a work around for this? .G. |

I've completed every single course now P One of the advantages of working for Orange, I have now completed the whole thing as 6 different people from work who aren't bothered about it, all i do everytime is register as the new person and send a confirmation email from work. Now i have all the top end prizes, only beacuse windows are really lazy about updating the courses! .G. |

I have an E650 on Orange and i work in an Orange shop so i do have the joy of playing with most of the SPV's / or HTC's as they are now branded. From this i have noticed that the Touch, now discontinued, has Windows Live software installed on the device, this is something i would prefer to have on my E650 as the web based system isn't always great. Is there anyway to add this to the device, i have trawled the web to see if there is anywhere to get it from but it would seem not. It would appear to me that it is only on WM6 Pro or equivilent. Any ideas guys? Is it somehting that can be taken somehow from one of these devices and put on mine? Also having never had either the HTC S710 / S730 versions i don't know if they come with it. .G. |

I am testing a website i created for a uni project and i was wanting to test it out on the phone. From the this i was wandering if anyone can tell me how to capture the screen information from the phone? Obviously it's easy from a PC because you just press, "prnt scrn", but from the phone i have no idea. If it helps i'm using a SPV E650. G. |

I have the same problem. Orange can't help me, i've called about 10 different pda shops, no shop where i can order. www.Eurotwice.be has them in stock but i can's order there as a privat person. Only companies can order. I'm getting tired of all this... Bad news mate, the battery cover doesn't have the clip on it the clip for the battery cover is actually on the back of the phone itself. If you want to look for it it's in the middle just below the bottom of the battery. Buying a new cover will make more difference. I work for Orange and my advice would be this, tell them that this catch has broken and if they don't replace it for you ask them for the customer services number for HTC U.K. as they *should* do something about it under the warranty. The reason i say ask Orange is they should give you a more *direct* number than the one you would get from HTC's website and i know for definite that there is nothing in the book that comes on the box! The terms and conditions of the Orange Contracts, Clause 14.1 I think, stipulates that, and i quote "The handset/hardware is acquired by you out with the terms and conditions of the contract itself". This in turn means that unless you have taken out Orange Insurance the phone/hardware is nothing to do with them/us. The handset, out with 28 day instore replacement policy, is the responsibility of the manufacturer. The terms and conditions of the contract basically says that Orange are only there to provide the Service. If you want to check this out it is on the back of you CIF form, the big form filled out instore, if you do not have this, ( I know that some stores just give out the Enable print-outs) then pop down to your local Orange shop and just ask to see the T + C's on the back of the Contract CIF. Also i know that things are different if you done the Upgrade / New Con over the phone and I am unsure what they actually send you through the post. All i know of is how *I* do it in our *Retail* store. hope this helps, Gareth |

Haven't got into Heroes yet, but heard it's good Does TCPMP work on the Vox? If so convert your avi with Pocket DivX encoder and watch it in TCPMP (both freebies BTW) This is the method I use and the quality of the file you get is excellent I'll give that a go tonight, i've downoaded the file but i don't have my laptop with me here at uni so it will have to wait tilll i get in later. I have recently started to watch Heroes and was wanting to view it on the phone. So i went to the Windows Mobile Media 10 homepage and got a list of what is compatible since i know it doesn't play the .avi files that i have. The list is as follows. Microsoft Windows Media Video codec versions 7, 8, and 9.
Microsoft Windows Media Video 9 Image codec versions 1.0 (used by Microsoft Photo Story 1 and 2) and 2.0 (used by Photo Story 3).
Microsoft MPEG-4 codec version 2.0 and 3.0.
ISO MPEG-4 video codec version 1.0. Now i used "Super Encoder" to convert a file to each one of the above (which took some time) and when i transfered it to the handset not one of them played! All i got was a black screen and no audio, however i haven't yet tried Windows Media Encoder. Have any of you guys got any suggestions as to how i can views these videos, as it is annoying me quite a bit that i can't watch anything on the phone unless it is a video that has been shot on the phone's camera! Gareth. |

Create one called 'Display'. You will need to Application Unlock your device. P Ok, how do i app unlock my device? its an Orange UK E650, and i have this backlight problem, i now know the solution but i don't know how or where to get a reg editor from and how to use it properly. I downloaded and installed MobileRegistryEditor but when i run on my PC i get an error if i try and run it on my phone i get an error and now my head hurts, if someone could give me step by step instructions that would be great. This does my head in cos i find it dead easy to configure a Cisco router from scratch but i can't get into the registry on my damn phone! Edit 2:00am...it would appear that i am THICK! I didn't have .net framework 1.1 installed hence why it would run! Next important question is...why does my clock gain an hour when i run TomTom or Sync with the PC??? G. |

Can someone, if they have time, please tell me what Sat Nav software definately works on the SPV E650. I've tried running TomTom 5.2 on it, but with bad consiquences... The program itself runs very quickly and reliably however even when the program has shutdown and been canceled in the task manager it ruins the power management settings on the phone - the phone never goes onto standby, the light always stays on! Even when i completely un-install the program from the device it just does the same thing. Funny thing is it's a real TomTom. the only way i could get it to behave was to do a hard reset! And before you ask i tried all the power management settings, but no change. I was looking into maybe using Route 66 Mobile 7, however i don't want to go out and buy it if it is going to do the same thing to the phone. Any ideas or tips?? .G Man. .From the Orange Shop. |

Um.... i work for Orange, and no we don't know about the problem..... Shocking i know! But i hey not as if i can change anything! This fix works wonders on the device, just installing my TomTom now to see if it had fixed the problem i had before. Which was that the phone phone never ever went onto standby.... Edit: Nope, the phone still just hangs there. It runs the TomTom no bother but, it doesn't switch onto to standby, the screen light always stays on although dimmer, it's like installing TomTom has changed the power management settings. Any ideas guys? PS. its not a real TomTom, but the map is, if that makes any sense. The program is a hooky one with a crack to get past the activation, but the map is a genuine version from TT5 for my M500. |
