Ive just been keen to get into using mac's after having strong roots in Microsoft for many years. I found that I tried to use the MAC for everything I needed to ... and now Ive pretty much found what I need to do, or can suss out with a bit of google. Office 2008 for the Mac is great, iLife is a nice toolset, Ive also been using Parallels and VMWare Fusion too. My advice would be, just get using it as much as possible, and enjoy it. |

Mine arrived this morning .... some things are a great spec, others are a bit lacking. Micros SD card slot ... but only up to 2GB Wifi - Excellent Bluetooth - Excellent 2MP Camera - Actually not too bad, id say probably better than that on the TyTN II However it only has GPRS and EDGE at times ... it doesn't have 3G and certainly doesn't have HSDPA. I was planning on using it as a pub phone, and putting my T-Mobile sim in there, and letting hosted exchange sync my calendar and contacts on there. But after using it for a while, I think I might use it as a replacement for my work handset, and let try to get it synchronising with Lotus Notes via USB ... so I've got a copy of fairly recent emails and calendar when Im out and about. |

Over on the trickery.net forum, there's a bit of discussion about the Omnia, Diamond, Raphael etc. Here Jamey has asked: QUOTE(Jamey) Hmmm... Nowhere seems to have proper video specs for the Omnia. They just list the codecs supported but not the resolution it records at or the frame rate. Does anyone know? And is the Omnia better than waiting for the Nokia N96? I've been out of contract for a while and waiting for something I really liked. I thought I'd post it here to see if anyone can answer his query. Ta |

I took Paul's advice and got the "three" E160G. It doubles as a memory card as you can stick an 8GB MicroSD card in there too. I got it for £49 quid on PAYG. Then there is a site called DC-Unlocker which quickly and simply sim unlocks the card. Can then stick in any sim and use it. After a minor problem where I "lost" the OSX software, it is working perfectly on both T-Mo and Three. It's just easier if I'm ooot and aboooot, to take the sim out my handset and put it in the usb broadband device, than to mess about with tethering under OSX. |

Yesterday I was wandering around the nearby shopping To my amusement, both of the sales staff were huddled up behind the counter at the back of the store. Upon approaching the desk, I realised what they were up to. They were both playing with their iPhones, watching youtube and having a "look what my iphones got" competition. Rather than ask them for help I started laughing, and said "hahah it's ok, it doesn't matter, thanks bye!". |

I was considering the E71 too. That and the Blackberry Bold. I think realistically I'm after the moon on a stick! Just keen to get something stable and reliable, that has a good camera, proper exchange integration, and a non-sluggish ui. |

Well I popped into one local T-Mo store to see if they were getting it, and they said "The Samsung what?". So I walked out! Went into another store yesterday and the guy said they were getting them in stock next week. I asked if they were selling them out of contract and he said no. So my option other than getting it sim free from clove.co.uk or expansys is to get it on a super cheap tmobile tariff. The guy in the store suggested he'd give me a cracking deal since we already have two t-mo contracts. I'm thinking that if I did it this way, id get a super cheap tariff, with virtually no calls, but add web n walk plus. I could then stick that sim into my mobile broadband! Win all round then! |

question that hasn't come up in the thread yet... does the fact that in system profiler the speed of my memory is 0 MHz slow my machine down artificially. i mean its obviously not actually operating at 0, because my memory works, but is it working at 667MHz or some minimal default value? also - totally unrelated - as i haven't seen a solution to the headphone out issue on other boards, does anyone have a suggestion for good usb (or even better bluetooth {stereo is a must}) headphones? Paul posted a fix for this on a mac forum. I tried the fix and it didn't work, so I didn't bother pursuing it. However like yourself, I'm not sure if it's purely cosmetic or affects the device. From using the machine a lot, I'd hazard a guess that it's purely cosmetic. |

I'm tempted at that price to get one for "what the hell". Ordered ! Looks a nice wee phone. Might serve to replace my work handset, and at least then I can sync it with lotus notes! :S |

Hmmmm..... Not all of the service in this country is bad. However we Brits do seem to put up with it. These days, if I'm not happy with something I complain. I've found T-Mobile's customer service to be really good. You email them, and get a personal response back, rather than a stock standard response. Orange on the other hand were great up until they were sold from Hutchinson. From that point on they went downhill. I even recall testing their customer services line to see how quick they reply. On my low tariff phone, it took far longer than on my higher tariff line! DSG also have terrible customer service, and it baffles me how they are still in business. Other than the fact they are so huge and people buy from them out of convenience. Regarding the telco's: Orange - Terrible 02 - Not as bad as orange, but still awkward at times Vodafone - Pretty good, but just couldn't be competitive. T-Mobile - Love them to bits, great customer service every time I call. Three - Outsourced to India (I make no comment, but let you all make your own judgement). |

Mr Nerd Sir, Going back to the draytek router. I recently had one, and had to send it back though. Mine was probably just a bad one. It's very flexible, and allows you to do all sorts of wonderful stuff with the link. You can bond links and have TWO ADSL connections, plus 3G. You can prioritise traffic over different links. Have one as fail over for another. Truly is a remarkable bit of kit. I just wasnt 100% satisfied with it, so it went back! |

Id approach this slightly differently. I would probably get the Draytek 2820n router which does both adsl and 3g Broadband. This will allow you to have a failover for when the adsl dies. |

PhoneAlarm ... "should" allow you to set location snapshots. Therefore you could potentially turn off 3G when you are at home, and get it to use wifi. I guess there are the issues that the wifi will probably disconnect one the screen goes into standby etc. |

I thought the omnia would charge via the usb when connected to a computer ... i.e. trickle charge. But not a normal charge, like from an adaptor. I guess you have conned the omnia into thinking it's connected to a PC. |

most likely because they cost a fortune http://www.euro.dell.com/content/topics/to...&cs=ukdhst1 Dell do a few laptops where the broadband card is built in ... however they are partnered with Vodafone ... but Im sure you could stick in a three or t-mo sim too. |

Personally I love Dell laptops, but have an IBM for work and its rock solid. I'm not a small chap by any means, and slipped on ice and landed on the IBM ... cracked the case but the laptop still works fine. Ive also had several Tosh laptops which have all been excellent too. How about a broadband laptop where the broadband card is build in? |

Hey Andrew, Thanks ... after posting, I went on a bit of a google mission and sussed out that really can only do it with wifi sharing, or bluetooth pan. I collared Paul on Palringo for some help. It works ok, but kills the battery more than usb sharing. I've also got WNW Plus, so no probs there ! Thanks for the update though, as it's useful for others./ |
