I use a Sprint Novatel Ovation U727 on my Macbook for internet. I was hoping that I could tether my blackjack to my macbook and then use the ATT 3G network and save myself some money. However, when I did speed comparisons (speakeasy.net/speedtest) the ATT 3G was peaked at 512 kbps about half of the Sprint U727 from the same location. (i.e. my coffee table)

Now, before I curse the ATT 3G ... is it possible that they are limiting the download speeds unless I actually sign up for the ATT "tethering" plan? Currently, I am just tethering on a pda unlimited plan, but I noticed ATT has a plan specifically for tethering.

i installed GPSID and entered following settings ; COM4,NONE,19200,and ticked Manage Automatically

I then installed Garmin XT as per instructions found here.
the North american maps that came as default I can see.

problem start here :

when i go to settings ,remote gps i can see GPS INTERMEDIATE DRIVER on screen
but when i go to GPSINFO and enter the page wre there is ACQUIRING SATELLITES even if I leave fone for abotu 10min nothing happens.My position is not being locked.what could the problem be here?
I am in Malta ,Europe.

could it be because I have no European maps loaded?where can i download maps and were do they install?

Yes, but if I were to bring it to court, they would definitely be held responsible for not including proper instructions.

I'm waiting for the next-gen iPhone in june and decided to go with the BJ2 because letstalk.com (the place I ordered my crap from) was gonna give it to me free of charge, no rebates. The qwerty kb alone makes it a better phone than a razr. Plus, Motorola is crap (I came from a Krzr on verizon).

We have had two totally opposite experiences then.

My phone isn't ruined, but if you take off your back cover, you'll see a white sticker (hopefully yours is still white). When that gets any water on it, it turns red. Manufacturers use this sticker to detect if the phone was in or around water. When it turns red, your warranty is voided.

Mine turned red because when I used that squeegee to push the water out from under the shield as per their instructions, enough water dripped onto the sticker. Now my warranty is void, and they refuse to accept any responsibility whatsoever. With every message they sent me, they continually stated they are not liable for any damage that comes from the use of their product.

So if I sold you a gun, handed you instructions that stated hold the gun facing your foot, and pull trigger to enable it's use, but then had a label that said I am not to be held responsible for damages that may result from the use of my product, I would then be safe? It's not my responsibility if I design a product that does this?

And I'm not arguing that it's not strong. It is strong. But I'm saying its incredibly over-hyped and not worth 25 dollars. It was sitting on my desk, I came back, it was torn. I've no idea what happened, but it could not have been anything too rigorous. I agree it's a pretty strong material, but it's no where near as great as they claim it is.

If they lower the cost, maybe it would be better, but as it stands, it's not worth it.

Someone mentioned the flashy box, and everything it comes in. I would venture to say everything the thing comes with costs more then the product itself. That is what you're paying for. The name, the stuff it comes with, and their "warranty," which they refuse to honor for me.

A) I beg to differ about the water, greatly.

B ) I found it incredibly strong up until I put it down on my desk, walked away, and picked it up again. It was perfectly fine one minute, now there's a small tear.

I will not endorse their product, especially not after their incredibly disrespectful "support" I received from them.

Also, my screen is now scratched. I told them, they instructed me to throw it away. (EDIT: "it" as in the shield)

Trust me, it will begin to peel.

If you're talking about that invisibleShield scam, I warn you to avoid it.

The cost is too high, and it does not protect your device as they claim. In addition, their support is horrendous.

I had the extreme of cases, and I was planning on letting things go, but given their recent response, which told me they don't give a sh*t, I'm going to warn everyone I can.

I had gotten it for 50% off, and I still say it isn't work. Installation resulted in voiding my warranty because water seeped onto that white patch under the battery door. There was no warning of that.

Within a few weeks of having it installed, it ripped, dead center on my screen. I now have to risk taking it off and have NO protection on my 350 dollar phone with no warranty, or deal with this mark in the center of my screen.

I contacted them prior about the warranty issue. They refunded my money, but refuse to being issuing a warning about the possibilities of a voided warranty, refuse to reimburse me for the damages to my phone, and refuse to help me with anything further.

Each of their responses has continued to tell me "we don't give a sh*t."


Therefore, I STRONGLY encourage you NOT to buy their product. They feel their reputation of being a 3 year old company receiving "issues like mine very seldomly" makes them a reputable company.

They are a scam, and not worth it.

Well sir, I have to respectfully disagree here. I too ordered and installed (quite properly I must say) a shieldzone for my bj. At first it did look great and I was impressed with the quality of the material, the fit, and the overall look. But after just less than 2 weeks the the edges of the film began to peel back. Once it peels back and you dont notice it right away it dries out and you can never put it back down, even if you wet it again. The company was good with their "lifetime guarantee" and sent me a new one free of charge, even though contacting them over the phone is impossible.

My bottom line opinion of this product is that it is not worth the price you pay for it. Of course this is just my opinion and if you are satisfied with yours then I am happy for you. But I would never buy one again.

After some issues with Rogers Wireless (Canada) contracts I decided to purchase the Samsung Jack (Blackjack II in the US) phone outright with no contract. Since I purchased it outright and am on no contracts I wish remove as much rogers branding as I can from the phone. I already removed the phone startup and shutdown video. I also want to get rid of the physical branding, ex the large rogers logo at the bottom of the phone. I looked it up on the internet and came across this site Phone Debranding, does anyone know if this will work on the blackjack II?

I also wish to remove the rogers start menu icon but the delete option is grayed out for some reason (I think the icon is located in the ROM?). Does anyone know how to remove the icon?

the BJ2 is actually SDHC compliant - so it'll support up to 32GB

Well I can give one good reason for overclocking. I have 2400 Contacts in my OUtlook Contact file, and at the standard speed the BJII is pretty pokey about finding the contact you are looking for. Upping the processor speed to 276 makes a HUGE difference. Not the expected 6% decrease in time to display the Contact, more like a 50 to 75% decrease!

I don't know why exactly, but I have seen it happen each time I lower the speed, and then push it up again.

As for the speed at which Photocontacts can retrieve the correct photo and display it, the same sort of effect is also seen.

At speeds greater than 276, the phone gets wonky and tends to lock up. At 296, it just doesn't work.

As far as I can tell, no-one has reported damaging their BJII by overclocking, probably because it becomes disfunctional at markedly higher speeds.

Anyone figure out how to force the BJ2 to use only Edge? My battery life is pretty dismal even though it is 1700 mah.

But the changes to not stick. I've tried several time. I've already app unlocked. REG changes stick ok.

To force GSM select the "GSM" option, to reenable 3G support select the "Auto" option
