Thank you. I am alittle new to modding a smart phone, so please bear with me. My last mods were on the razor line. could you maybe give a step by step. which xml file am I looking for?

The xml file you would be looking for depends on which homescreen you're currently using. For example, if you're using the Smartphone homescreen, the xml file is called cingular.home.xml (this file is located in Application Data\Home)

[make sure to uncheck hide system/hidden files under Tools>Options before you use the Explore function to browse the device's folders & files]

- copy the file to your computer so you can make your changes/edits and then copy it back over to your device
- rename the <title lang="0x0409">Smartphone</title> to whatever title you want; for example: Smartphone with changes

[tip: if you want to change the placement of the shortcuts, you would look for the plugin for shortcuts and change the x, y coordinates accordingly]

Here's a couple links with xml tutorials to give you an introduction to xml editing:

I am asking about icon placement on the homescreen. every now and then i will see a screen shot of a screen with the shortcut icons in diffrent locals on the home screen and was wondering how this is done.

Ah ok, got it. Yes, that is done by editing the xml file to place the plugin for the shortcut icons in different places on the homescreen. Basically, you're just changing the placement of it by editing the code for it.

Do a master clear.

Is master clear and hard reset the same thing? Not sure, but you can do this one too, it's a hard reset:

Turn phone off. Press Z and E then power button to power on. Leave the phone alone for a few mins.

If you indeed have a Q9H, then you already have WM6.

Ah I figured it out. 88Saleen this will probably work for you also.

Go back to the registry/almost the same place but a bit deeper instead:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Pictures\Camera\OEM\VideoProfile\3\VideoEncoderProperty\3\ and edit the VideoPropertyVT value to something like 10 (mine was set to 45)
At least from starters that game me OK playback. I'm sure you can tamper in there with those settings & get it to give you desirable results.

I'll continue to snoop in there & see if I can improve things further.

Hope that helps smile.gif

Any updates on this? I did the hack to enable the 320x240 option to record video clips in... however, the quality isn't that great. Has anybody figured out any other tweaks in this section of the registry to give better "quality" recording for video clips?

I found this somewhere else, but I have the Q9h with AT&T and I have the 3 folders labeled, 1,2,3, and each one has options... how do I know which one to edit? Why are there so many folders with all the same entries in each folder?

Increase Video Bitrate from 128 to 512
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Pictures/Camera/OEM
VideoEncoderProperty/1
This is the property for BITRATE
Edit the Key VidoepropertyValue (Yes, it is spelled Vidoe on the key)
Default is approx 128kbps, I have modified up to 512kbps (512000)

Any help is appreciated!

Can't seem to get Either ^ to work on my Q9h

There isn't a LastLibraryIndex under Preferences. Tried creating a LastLibrayrIndex folder and entered the value... Nothing.

Created FileSyncPath Value folder and entered String... Nothing.

Any thoughts? Anyone else try this?

I was just looking over this again and it came to mind... the path is incorrect. It needs to read as below, I made the edits, try it and see if it works for you.

Move "My Documents" to a SD Storage Card

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services]
Mofify\Create the following:
String Bane: FileSyncPath Value: \Storage Card\My Documents
Simply create a root folder on your storage card named: My Documents (basically you are copying the "My Documents" folder from the Q's main memory to your Storage Card)

I haven't tried it but I was about to this evening because I really want my "My Documents" to point to my storage card instead of my device.

Please post back if you figure this one out - I would really appreciate it!

Well... you didn't give too much detail about the problem you are having... why are they not working... are they just not loading or are they crashing in between...? Are they java based games? If so, I think you need something called jbed for java based apps.

As a supplemental question, WM6 seems to impose a 300kb file size limit on tones (in which anything over that isn't recognized in the Sounds menu); how can I remove the 300kb limit?

You need to go in and edit the registry on the Q, here's the info:

Go into:

HKCU = HKEY_CurrentUser

HKCU\Control Panel\Sounds

Delete key FileSizeLimit

ICS (for some reason) is hidden on the Q9.

(Manual Instructions)
Go to the Q's \Windows\ folder and look for IntshrUI.exe, make a short cut to it, make it visible, and move it to the start menu.
*Create the shortcut first. The shortcut will be hidden because the .exe that it is linking to is hidden. Move the shortcut to the start menu and change the properties so that it is not hidden.

(Automatically via CAB file)
I know there's a CAB out there and I don't remember where/who I got it from, but it does the above for you automatically and puts the shortcut to ICS in your start menu. I uploaded it so you could d/l it. Just copy/transfer this CAB, http://rapidshare.com/files/75872541/Inter...re_Lnk.cab.html, to your Q and run from the Q.

Nope. No need for the cab. But it does app unlock the phone as well...so it doesnt hurt to install it if you dont know how to do that yourself manually in the registry.

Oh ok, yeah I did that app unlock thing already, thanks.

[Last question I promise smile.gif ]

Should I still use that GPSTest app to kinda kick start my GPS signal when I know I'm going to be using it soon?

Thanks again!!

To answer some of the above statements/questions:

If your BlackJack2 is draining battery quickly after you use GPS....be sure you are using com4. If you use any ther port, such as one used by something else...there will be a conflict and the GPS will not turn off. This is evident on the Q9h when usig Com5. With the GPS icon tweak, using com5, you can see the GPS never turns off once on...showing that you need to find an open com port.

So on the Q9h it's either com1 or com3.
on the BJ2 it is com4

Using the above app...for both phones..set the Program port accordingly and the hardware port to none.

Play with the baud. 38,400 should work for everything. GPS will lower the baud automatically if necessary from what I understand.

So using this app on my Q9h I can choose either COM1 or COM3, cool.

Just one more question though, do I still need to load Paul's GPS Activator CAB for COM3?? And then install this utility app?

Well well... i've been bleating on for *ever* about how hard done by Smartphone users are compared to their Pocket PC counterparts with no UI in the OS to configure the GPS Intermediary Driver (GPSID), and what happens? One springs up!

It turns out that a GPSID configuration utility that exactly mirrors the Pocket PC version is nestling away in the 'Tools' directory of the Windows Mobile 6 Standard SDK Refresh! If you're a BlackJack II owner, a Motorola Q9H owner or basically anyone wanting to configure GPS on a Smartphone, then you NEED this utility!

I don't think it's really fair to make you download a >200MB SDK install just to get hold of it, so (because i'm nice like that) i've packaged the application up into a lovely CAB file, which is attached below.

Enjoy, and Microsoft - better late than never eh? biggrin.gif

So looking at this screenshot, am I supposed to set both the Program Port and the Hardware Port to COM3 on my AT&T Q9?

Thanks guys!

Thanks for all of the great info here. I downloaded the COM3 activator, GPS Test 1.04, Windows Live Search, and Google Maps, and got everything working (with no SIM card in!) from inside my family room in a few minutes. WLS seems a bit quicker to lock on and move around than GMM. Firing up GPS Test definitely allows the other programs to lock on quicker. Thanks to everyone here for sorting this out.

So... I've been following this thread and I think I'm about ready to do all these GPS customizations. Just a question though... if I'll only be running Windows Live Search and GoogleMaps do I really need to install this GPS COM3 activator CAB? Am I understanding this correct that you probably only need to install this CAB if you're going to be running something like CoPilot, right?

If I'm wrong... then the steps I would take to start using my GPS to it's capacity is to load the COM3 activator CAB and then switch my LiveSearch and GoogleMaps to use COM3? And then run that GPSTest so try and start it up quicker on those days I'll be using it the most.

Did I get all this right?

Thanks guys!
