The problem with BA devices is that they turn themselves back on if you get any kind of notification. Try ScreenLock for PPC. Read the feedback as you have to press the calender and messaging buttons to unlock your device. |

I know this sounds a pain, but I find it works if you manually enter the dial string after it connects. It is best if you put the string in a note and copy and paste it after it makes the connection. |

If you prefer flip-phones, then your only real option at the moment is the MPx220. I love mine and with the latest ROM is much faster and has WMP10 - go get one now! |

Speed boost definately makes it the fastest smartphone around - I currently have MPx220, MPx200, C500 and SDA, so I'm not just guessing at this. The sound issue with the speakerphone can still cause distortion, but then it can on speakerphone on most devices at sometime or other. Loudness is fine - still not the best, but loud enough - don't let that put you off. Anyway, I use a BT headset most of the time, so that's not an issue for me. Having said all that, the C500 and SDA are great phones too. In summary: If you prefer flip-phones get the MPx220, If you prefer candy-bar phones, get one of the others. |

freakstone: If you got to Start>settings>connections tab>connections>Bluetooth Settings/Manage existing connections>Modem Tab>Edit>Next>Next>Advanced and tick 'Enter dialing commands manually' >OK>Finish Remove the AT+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet","",0,0 settings from your dialup connection and then you will then have to enter AT+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet","",0,0 at the prompt after the modem connects. If you have those settings in a text file, you can copy and paste them when you connect, otherwise it's a pain to type them manually with every connection. This is not an ideal solution, because it makes connecting a long wide affair, but it does work with my PPC and MPx220 - Good luck. XDS: If you use the *99# nunber to dial then you are using GPRS - this is the number to tell the phone that you want to use GPRS. If not, then you're probably burning minutes. SurrealNetworks: In the UK T-Mobile does not offer unlimited GPRS and charges for out of bundle use are £7.50/MB!!! CSD might be slow, but if you've got loads of minutes available in your plan (I get 3000/month for £15 on T-Mobile UK), then it's a lot cheaper to use a slower connection. |

goldeagleb, Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've never had any of the problems listed. The latest roms give you WMP10 and a speed boost. Get the MPx220 - you won't regret it! |

There a a couple of remote programs that 'work' with M2000. The reason I say 'work' is that the IR on the M2000 is not strong enough to make the remote usable - you have to hold it no more that about 1 metre from the TV, which means you could just reach out to the TV and press the buttons anyway. http://vitotechnology.com/en/products/remote.html http://www.pdawin.com/tvremote.html http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7052 |

How do i use the phone as an USB Modem? 1. Open Active Sync, choose File -> Connection Properties and uncheck the USB box, this stops Active Sync trying to sync the phone with Outlook. 2. Now take your phone off its cradle, go to Start -> Accessories and Modem Link. 3. Change the Connection to USB and then choose Menu (soft key) and activate. Now place the phone in the cradle. Windows will display that it has found new hardware. Allow it to produce the Wizard Menu, choose next and the choose specify location. Insert the CD that came with the phone and choose next. It will then ask you whether you want to continue etc. Keep going until you reach the end of the wizard. 3. Now you have the modem installed and can configure it. 4. Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and Choose Phone and Modem options, choose the HTC USB Modem and choose Properties and Advanced. In the initialisation String box use the following: +CGDCONT=1,"wap.voicestream.com" 4. Now create a new dial up connection, the phone number is *99# and ensure that the only modem that is selected is the HTC USB Modem, it will try to use any modem already listed - uncheck them. (Note: no username and password is required). 5. Now dial up. 6. You can re-enable Active Sync after installation. When u wish to use the phone as a USB Modem remove it from the cradle and activate the Mode Link and place it back in the cradle, Active Sync wont start and instead you will be in modem mode. It is not possible to use the phone as a USB Modem with Win 98 / SE / ME unfortunately. |

I've owned quite a few phones. I'm a gadget freak and always have at least two mobiles at any one time. Here they are sort of in order. I'm sure I've missed a couple though. I can't remember the name my first mobile other than it came from Cellnet, weighed a ton, cost me £1100 and needed two (heavy) batteries (at £80 each) to last 8 hours and line rental was £25+vat/month and 50p/minute, billed by the minute. Motorola upright giant brick with LED numbers (can,t remember name) PeoplesPhone pp800 Sony CM H333 (MarsBar Phone) Nokia 101 Technophone Then into the digital era: Motorola First Digital Flip Phone (took full credit-card sized sim cards, can,t remember name) An early digital thing on Orange, very square shape to it (can,t remember name) Motorola V50 - classic phone - lasted years Nokia 3110 Nokia 3210 Nokia 8110 Nokia 7110 Nokia 9000 Nokia 9110 Nokia 9210 Nokia N-Gage NEC e606 O2 Xda O2 XdaII O2 X1 flip phone T-Mobile MDAIII SPV C500 T-Mobile SDA Motorola MPx200 Motorola MPx220 |

I have experience of both C500 and SDA. The joystick on the SDA is a million times easier to use than the C500. I bought my wife a C500 and she through it back at me 2 days later, cos she couldn't get it to select the right options. She insisted on an SDA, cos the joystick is so sweet. My sons have a C500 and an SDA. Everybody who sees the pair of phones together prefers the SDA. I couldn't get to grips with the C500 and gave up trying to use the navi-thing. I personally now use an MPx220 (much bigger buttons) very easy to navigate. |

yes, you can swap roms virtually as you please, but then you only get the settings for that operators rom and will have to set things up manually. |

In the UK, most networks do not allow you to dial ISP phone numbers in your inclusive minutes. If you can find an ISP that gives you a regular "01" number to dial, then you can use your inclusive minutes to surf the net and get emails. |

I tried 143 rom and it won't work with my orange sim, but works fine with my t-mobile sim. The phone is not sim locked and is used exclusively with the orange sim normally. The asian rom works fine with the orange chip, but i don't like the asian logos, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's causing this? |
