I Guess that i am the only person here who is baffled that any serious win mo user is still on orange!

i left when they asked for 300 plus for a universal on 50 per month tarrif! i went to tmob and got it for 20 quid. same tarrif, as someone said, the e200 days were good. but even then we were restricted to smartphones, o2 had the ppcs back then.

for me, orange suck big time, i think paul starting modaco helped them to have good retention figures for win mobile users in the past as we were all jumping at their new devices. i seriously cannot think of any reason> why i would go back to them.

ps fring mssenger is the best, it works with msn and lets u have voip through msn! and it beams it to my motorolla s9 bt headset. works with skype (voip too) and icq and google chat. tmob web and walk and fring

it is seriously a no brainer unless u are on orange payroll!

The wait is over people smile.gif

I am now running wm6 on my tmobile uk ameo which is CID AND NETWORK
LOCKED! I am posting this using opera mobile which is running a treat.
Everything about the device is now better I would say maybe 3 times more
comfortable to use than it was before. The speed is great and all the apps i
have installed so far work in exaactly the same way as on wm5.
(no pocket quake maybe i disable gapi or something? i just cant remember sad.gif )
check the latest posts on xda devs and ask any questions you want smile.gif

Ill give the cleartype tuner a go and let u know my findings. This seems to be the best solution at the moment. We will get a few problems. i cannot
change my backlight settings without going back to qvgva mode......

With all this effrot getting mobile 5 woring properly are we going to go up to mobile 6 when we get an available rom?
Someone posted a hacked version of 6 ripped from an x7501 which was built for universal. I hope the original becomes available.

Hello guys,
I have found this combo works really well for me on my Ameo.

Ensure that you install the SDKcerts.cab first and then the true VGA cab.
There is a utility with which one can toggle the modes.

I am really pleased with how it looks and works.

My only gripe is totally unrelated - My opera8.65B with new flash player active X still wont show me Youtube.com videos sad.gif
no matter what I do I get told I have an old flash version.

With VGA mode enabled and the test mouse driver - the Ameo is going to be superb on my mates 40" TV. Just without flash content sad.gif

Anyway I have had no trouble with this app - I have yet to go back to QVGA - VGA is too good smile.gif

I too love this device but totally hate the bars. Especially when plugged in to my Monitor with my "new" mouse drivers smile.gif
They take up about 20% of the screen. What a nuisance. There must be some sort of tool somwhere from other Mobile 5.0 devices which removed the Top and bottom bars or at least shrunk them in some way.

I know its different but I shrunk my Scroll bars to 1/2 their original sizes and my fonts to 9 I think instead of 12....or 7 or something. It looks great and has affected everything. I have a slightly mis-aligned alarms page but the clock is cool. I have noticed no other problems and I have tried pretty much everything.

I did this using tweaks2k - demo available on handango.com. Its got some handy things to change.

Give it a go.

Well,
It seems that my device didn't lke being rebooted with the mouse plugged in!

I have to upplug, then restart - await for confirmation box and then replug to get a cursor.

Good work paul.

I hope you dont mind but I took the liberty of uploading this to XDA-developers as people were complaing that they had to sign up to modaco when they were following the link! They dont know what they are missing.

I shall delete my post if this is a problem.

Thanks

I just noticed the state of the grammer in my last post from last night. The keyboard really sucks its just the wrong shape when compared to the ease of use of my old universal. It feels too long but the depth is ok.
One really annoying thing that is really getting me wound up is opera text boxs, if you puy cursor in a text box then opera drops its full screen
mode! Every time!
You have to disable full screen and then re-enable to get it back.

This is bad for forum posting. I would love a fix for this.

i am still after some GPS software i have virtual earth an map4Pda but
they wont give me graphical representation of my location.

I will aplay some quake later and post my findings

tongue.gif Well I have had ny amaeo for a whole day now and i must sayi recon it runs at
least 50% faster than my universal was. i am very impressed.

the speed is really blistering TCMP runs my 450mb avi episode of hero's formatted for my pc without
any problems. i hooked it up to my monitor and i was amazed, the vga out is a real
treat.

i have ordered a 4 in 1 16 pin to vga/component/svideo/usb adapter from expansys to replace the vga only adapter which was in the box. Then i can plug in my psp, usb
mouse. tv and all sorts !

You get a little pen in the box which is normal size rollerball/stylus combo and i am finding this really handy, i can write and then operate my ppc quickly and easily.

The joystick isnt so hot for games i played gfdoom which ran well but controls are a bit naff. it is great in opera though.

I noticed that pocket Msn is missing from my rom.

i have had one crash whilst i was running pocket artist and streaming internet radio and then opened file explorer, it was a complete lockup and i had to soft reset but i suppose thats just windows mobile for you. Prior to that i had been surfing internet for hours whilst streaming radio abf and some mp3s. I am using a copy of vbar to switch applications and i am getting reasonably
reliable multi tasking for the first time on a pda.

It is a bit awkward holding it in your hand as compared to my old universal and the keys dont light up ;( so its hard for me typing this in very dim light. the keys also dont feel so natural but i should be able to use a usb keyboard when i get my adpter

WOOHHOOO!

I just ordered my Amao for.......£240 as an upgrade to my out out contract pay monthly. On £20 a month and £7.50 web and Walk.

It comes tomorrow morning........I had better find some h**ked GPS soft on P2P for the morning so I can play with it. smile.gif

I will have to try all options before I purchase a copy.

I heard they are over £50 for the basic packages!

I know TomTom and Copilot....anyone know which will work in this device>?

Anyone have any experience?

I hear that its a SirfStar III chip, the T-mobile spokes person confirmed it has GPS integrated and T-mobile didnt remove this extra.

I cant wait to load up my copy of Opera (which was a MODACO PLUS GIFT smile.gif ) on this device and download some serious.....errr ......Pron?
NICE!

On the serious side, I spent a lot of time searching for the differences between this devices GPU (ATI W227 or something)
and the new Nvidia GPU which is being incorperated into the XDA flame. I was split between the two. It appears that the XDA NVIDIA chip supports Open GL(mobile version) and the Amao ATi flavor does not.

It seems from the ATI site that this chip is a Dedicated 2D processor. Not good as I was hoping to be playing Quake 3 on this baby. I am sure someone on XDA developers will be able to offer more info...

I shall put up review of video and gaming possibilities tommorrow and probably a few pics.

My colleague has just purchased a Tytn on T-mobile UK - Vario 2.

His has this x button built in as part of the build.

He will not be getting vbar - wisebar or whatever other variant now.

This does the job as it should.

Microsoft take away functionality and then u have to buy a 3rd party program to close your apps without a huge run through the menu's to find the memory optiion.

I have registered and payed for apps like this in the past - seems like they still want me to..

Well done HTC - you allow us to close apps which we started on our own devices.

If an alien came to earth. It would be like "hey you have nice gadgets - why can you not close the apps and save battery easy....."
They they would blow us up for non efficient energy usage.

IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT MICASOF?

I too was posting hate mail/constructive critisism on the dev blogs about this. Even one of the MICASOF boys who wrote the blog agreed that this was necesary.

I play everytime I get a new ISO.
I dont think I have missed many. Sometimes I think I waste life testing everything that ever comes out.......

I have bought a few that I really like but that was ages ago, now days I only spend 5 mins on each game before I am testing another one.

I have however been spending hours on medal of honour online. My mate has a psp we go on the same server and it is really really fun (apart from the controls - I am veteran FPS PC player.)
Looks like I'll have to get a copy......

Hi mate,
No homebrew opn any 2.8x at the moment. It might be cracked but I wouldnt hold my breath. I would sell the device and then get another one running V2.71 or below.

If you knew what one can run on these devices you would do it.

Devhook is phenominal. you should use:

www.pspupdates.qj.net

Its an immature site in many respects but they host the goodies and the news is generally reliable. (not 100%)

I h8te SONY especially after lik-sang fiasco. Somehow, in the last month I have ended up with PSP, w850i and now a vaio laptop.

Thanks for the info Paul, I shall wait for new hardware shop to open, maybe I'll order a new card from there. I am in no rush.

Disco Stu, I have never heard that www.ebuyer.co.uk is using overseas call centres and child labour!!!

I have built a squillion PC's with parts ordered from there!

You have made me worry......but then again, the amount of dangerous chemicles used to make PC's and smartphones etc causes such pollution that it kind of outweighs the other issues.

I was in a state of not caring.......you have opened a gulf in my technolust sad.gif How can I get all exited about my new device now sad.gif

(its actually a W850i - My universal is going to be allocated as a data only device)

Well - roll on the new modaco shop smile.gif

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has used the modaco shop recently. When it was opened I thought that it would grow and become a place for everyone to get good deals.
I had a look today, there are 1 gb SD cards for UK £50!

I can get 2GB from retail www.ebuyer.com for £25? How can this site that I so love be ripping people off to such an extent>?

Surely this would be the place for all users to get a good deal - "a fair deal" not what I saw.

Am I being silly, is this shop designed to help pay for the running of this site?
I thought that was why we payed for modaco PLUS?

Personally I would much prefere to give my money to my favorite online smartphone communinty shop if I thought I was going to get at least a competetive price. I am not saying it has to be the cheapest. Its just that its the same price as PCWORLD! !!! Probably more expensive!
how will you sell any? All of the prices are ridiculous.

Hello everyone,
I plan to visit Masstricht in NetherLands this weekend and I am hoping that there will be UMTS/3G coverage for my MDA pro.
I am on a T-MObile Network in England so I presume that my phone will switch to T-Mobile in Netherlands.
Could anyone tell me about network coverage in Maastricht and if Ill get a fast data connection?
Many thanks

I managed to find 2gb for £38 inc delivery from UK seller on amazon marketplace.

I bought 4 different cards from 2 different sellers in UK.

I paid under £100 for 6gb - I remember when IDE hard drives used to cost this much..

Hi all,
I kind of consider my self a half newbie to PSP scene, I have only had mine for about 1 month or 2.
I am learning as I go how to abuse this device.

I currently run 1.5 firmware and devhook .42 so I can use new UMD's (or something biggrin.gif )

Are there any other "power users" out there who I can become friends with and share info, news with "etc**"?

Anyone else using devhook and managed to get to version .44 or .46 and still able to load it?

Let me know, post or PM me.

I need PSP buddies

To be honest, I dont think that they care that much.
I have been told the same thing about streaming, using phone as 3g modem for pc and other data intensive tasks.
I have had web and walk for about 1 month now, I have also been streaming Radio ABF @ 192KBPS over 3g...Using pocket caster as a mobile 3g webcam with audio, uploading files to ftp. Using MSN messenger and guess what else? Conencting up my pc to use phone as modem.
I called them this morning and asked them if my use has been extreme or if I was close to a limit.
The very helpfull tmobile lady said.
"No, you use has been low. Maybe if you use a gig or 2 in a month then you will run into problems."
A gig!

I think this is down to location and available bandwidth. If you live in an area with lots of data congestion (i.e bare peeps using 3g/gprs) then using a lot of bandwidth will kill their network, they will have reported complaints from customers.

I live just outside M25 in north Lon, I have always got a great connection there and stream radio quite a lot....(internet radio via 3g being beamed to my bluetooth stereo headset - amazing!)

They did not say that I have used to much.
My next question was "if I continue using the same services from my phone (I didnt say internet radio lol)
will I encounter any problems with my coverage?"
They said NO!

I spent 3 years on Orange being treated like a millionaire chump, they took all my money and gave me bottom of range devices for top prices. Data prices were laughable.
Tmobile have given me £15 off my line rental every month cos I am a valuable customer. They have given me top devices - MDA pro. They have given me amazingly fast internet with coverage that is perfect for my home and work location.

At present there isnt much that would persuade me to go back to Orange.....

Viva le web et marche!

Hello everyone,
Here at my work we have quite a few wireless access points.
If I wanted to walk about the building and test the security of each one, could anyone give me any ideas of what software to use.
On my magician I had quite a few tools wififofum streethawk etc, on my universal however none of these tools appear to work correctly. I was wondering if there were any success stories with people using these tools getting past WEP. If its possible.
Thanks

Mda Compact
512 Ebuyer Xtra Value Sd
WMA and MP3 Beta player (TCMP)

I have always used my device for Music, ever since I got my first Canary.
I have used Expansys 2.5-3.5 adapters, I have also found the Sony Mdr Ex71 soft headphones the best way to go for Music.

I have now got a small set of Speakers mounted in my Crash helmet, I plug these into my Tmob Mda compact and grove whilst I ride!

I have also found a good mount for this device on Expansys for Cycles...It should fit on my MotorBike handlebars......then I have GPS on my Bike with sound-

Thats pretty cool.

I have been running this Rom for a few days now on my MDA compact. I must admit, I have seen a huge increase in Battery life.

Phone has been left on with Blueteeth enabled paired to a headset (fair enough only minor call usage-) for nearly 40 hours before needing a charge. I have listened to a few MP3's onthe way to work, I have played Darklaga for a bit......
I have really noticed an instant difference.

1 week prior to the update I had hard reset my device.

This puts me under the impression that the device should have been running perfectly, and the update has given me more power conservation!

Huraah!
