For GPS enabled phones a GPS icon would be nice. My Q9h shows a few different GPS icons depending on the status. I also second the need for other network types - 3G and H for the Q9h. Also not sure if this is what was meant by dial-up, but the icon showing that I am tethered would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Can you post a few screenshots showing the different GPS icons and what they mean. I am stuck with a phone with no in-built GPS sad.gif Also, a copy of the Q9 registry would be a great help!

I have received repreated requests to add more notifications to the iconbar. So, I thought it would be a good idea to address them. Currently I have the following -

1. Network types other than G and E.
2. Messenger
3. Dial up internet

If there's someone who believes there's more that should (and can, given the space limitations) go out there, I would appreciate if you would let me know. Thank you.

I am also becoming skeptical on the issue of the icons being a part of window title bars...somewhat discouraging for me. Days of search did not give me any positive hints, if it is at all possible, less how! If anyone well versed on WM6 architecture is reading this, please do provide some pointers. Your help is much appreciated.

That's okay! It would be great if you can provide the instructions step by step, rather than a cab or something. I am waiting.

ok many of you are saying "oh yeah we knew he was a lier about the myFaves unlock blah blah blah"
well the only reason why the tutorial isnt released (but its finished) is because it caused WAY to many problems to the phone!

after i did the full unlock, i unlocked the second UI (when you select a contact and you have the option to call, send picture, IM, email, etc) and then my phone just went to hell after it.

here is my current list of problems:

1)Screen - The screen goes to a higher brightness when slid up barely and when closed fast. This makes everything hard to see and read.
2)Buttons - My Home, Right-Softkey, and Call button no longer work. The buttons arent stuck, they just simply dont work anymore (they do work when i disable all the myfaves menus and remove the UI)
3)Jog Wheel - Is now even slower with a huge delay (again, i can fix it by removing the myfaves UI)

so yeah my phone is basically broken when everything is enabled. if pictures or a videos are required i will be more then happy to show you.

Midian,

If you do not mind sharing the information you have gathered on unlocking the UI, then please do so. I am sure you have hit upon something that others haven't yet. Who knows, someone might be able to resolve the problems you are having!

sparky472, move the phone around...it should come up! Someone else in here noticed that and then reported that it started showing up as soon he took it outside his apartment.

Easier way to do....?? if you are talking about the iconbar then I am not sure. I thought registry notifications would be the best approach (with as little overhead on phone memory as possible). Would you mind sharing any ideas that you have?

i'm a little confused. i have sms/email notifications in this and i don't see how useful speakerphone would be since the plug in only works on the home screen so the only way you'd ever see it currently is if you went back to the home screen during a call.

I agree on that. SMS/Email notifications are already included. Now, the notifications are read off from specific registry entries. If you are using it on a different phone, then I cannot be sure that the entries are at the same place as in the Shadow. The iconbar does not extend to all windows, so even I am not sure how the speakerphone would help.

RinkuD - this is off topic but I don't recall where or if there is a topic in here about your my favs mod. i really like it and am glad someone could finish it. i made figured out the beginning pieces but then got stuck. the question i have is when do the notifications or how do they refresh? i have had a missed call and an unread text message for days now.

I don't think there's a topic in here about it....there is one hidden in AllShadow. The missed call notifications gets removed when you call the contact and actually talk to it (or get to its voicemail). Message notifications are removed when you read the message. The program also runs a clean up (in case it messed up with detection) at 12:00 am every night. I am currently not looking into myfaves anymore...just waiting for the other mod posted in another thread to come out.

Thank you very much. I have anotherfeature request but don't know if it is possible. The iconbar plugin seems to work only on the home screen. When you go into a menu or something I still get the normal bar on top.

By the way, the new one work like a charm. Only one question. Is it possible to have the orientation changed when you slide the phone? Normaly I have portrait but when I slide my keyboard open I have landscape. For my background image in my home.xml I have:

<background bgimage="\Application Data\Home\Arbeider_Vista\Vista.png" bgimage-rotated="\Application Data\Home\Arbeider_Vista\VistaLS.png" valign="bottom" />

I am not sure how to acheive that. Specially because I do not think the Shadow (only phone which I have) has that feature inbuilt. In any case, releasing the source code would perhaps motivate someone to add such features to it.

Excelent Work RinkuD i've installed the former bar since some days ago and i 've noted that the property for WLMessenger will not show up by incoming messages. You can use those icons for that purpose if you like :-)

go-qtek,

The number of notifications are limited in the plugin. The WML notifications are not wanted. With a few more basic changes, I shall be soon be realesing the source code for the plugin. Then perhaps interested users can add more notifications as they want.

This would be a great addition. Right now I'm using it on my Vox. The problem I encounter is that I want de bar to be transparent, so that my background image of the them comes through it. If I change the "CHome_Iconbar_Background.png" to be transparent the background of the bar turns black. I have no experience using transparency. What do I need to change to get this working?

The iconbar is ready (almost) with support for landscape mode (320x240) as well. The transparency issue has been brought to my attention and it has been resolved. I will have it out in two days.

Is there any way I can get a copy of the file that you have MSN Direct working in? I really want to start using it. If need be you can email it...it'd really be appreciated.

I wouldn't mind sharing it but I must resolve certain issues with the standalone loading before giving it out. Besides, the NeoDock Manager needs to be updated so that you can add plugins to the standalone version. I shall get it done asap. In the meantime, if you really want to run MSN Direct, why don't you just create a shortcut MSNDirect.exe and launch it from there. Anyways, it wouldn't make much sense to launch the standalone only to see MSN Direct, coz its more easily accessible through the exe. I hope you would understand!

If you could pull that off Rinku - that would be pretty trick. What would really be cool would be if there was a way to shove the standard windows home screens into the Neo Home page (the one with the clock and date in it)... but I doubt that's even possible.

I have some of it done!

Attached Image Attached Image

There shall be two different interfaces of the dockstation now.

1) As an add-on to Neo. This would allow one to load a single plugin on the top status bar area.

2) As a standalone plugin viewer. In this mode, you can essentially load one or more plugins, usually not loadable on Neo because of size and selectability problems, and then can return back to Neo when done.

The images above show the addition of MSN Direct to the dockstation, when clicked it opens the standalone interface. You can then return back by clicking on the title bar.

I shall include all these and some more optimizations on the first release. Guess, this should have been part of the dockstation thread.

QUOTE(badbob001 @ Feb 13 2008, 15:53) *
I've seen smartphone today screens where the missed call element, when visible, is large enough to take up the whole screen and thus pushes all the other elements outside of the viewing area. I wonder if it's possible to make a plug-in that is invisible but takes up the whole screen (pushing neo out of the way temporarily) when made visible via external trigger (eg: side button). I suspect neo will not allow itself to be pushed off the screen. I wonder if neo can be made invisible...

I'm thinking... there are so many great today screens out there, all loaded up with great plug-ins. Why not just use dockstation to swap the entire today screen to one without neo but loaded with all the plug-ins you want. And when you're done, swap back. But I suspect many of those plug-ins depend on the plug-in being in the active today screen to update itself.

I have also seen that "push" behavior in other home screens. But with Neo on, something else goes on. Just to test, I added three separate plugins before adding the Neo plugin. I was expecting that since Neo was added last, only part of it would be visible. But, it seems Neo just "ate" two other plugins to make space for itself. The problem comes from the height of the plugin which seems to be hardcoded into the code.

The other thought could be possible. What we are essentially asking is to just switch the whole theme - say for example from NeoDock to Windows Basic - we can anyways do that from the settings, but we are asking a one click access to the theme. About the refresh, every time a plugin is loaded, it will run through its refresh routines. As long as you have it on the screen, it shall run as usual. When you switch back, you no longer want it to refresh.

QUOTE(Cyber Buddhah @ Feb 13 2008, 16:51) *
How about Neo DockStation to execute an XML file with the plugin, in the full screen mode. Use the shortcut key to close it or switch back to NEo. In a way, it's not "docked" any more.

This can work as well. MSNDirect now offers Weather, Stocks, and News info. I do not know if that is a lot of information, but of course, if a plugin gives access to loads of info, one might just want to have a quick access to it.

All in all, I am looking at this requirement - Some plugins are worth having a quick access to - like Facade may be! They are not loadable in Neo because of space constraint. I need to modify the dockstation so that, apart from being able to load single plugins on the top status bar area, it should also be able to load a full fledged plugin(s) in a standalone interface, and then provide a way to come back. Is that so?

Hopefully one of you smarter UI people can get this to work with Neo. Microsoft has released a capability for WM devices to get MSN Direct content but it interfaces with the normal UIs. Here's the link to the article and download, http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2...irectMWCPR.mspx. I've installed it and there is a dll along with xml files but I am not that smart on interfacing this stuff. I think it would be awesome if someone can get this to work with Neo.

The problem is there isn't enough space on the Neo interface to place this plugin. The best we have is a 27 pixel high space at the top, where the status bar usually resides. This plugin is 57 pixels high. If you want to see how it would turn out to be, you can try this -

Find the xml file for you current theme - somewhere in \Application Data\Home. If its the default theme, it would be cmhome.home.xml.
Copy it to your PC and open it in notepad. Take a backup!!
Look through the file for entries starting as <plugin clsid...
Replace the first entry starting with <plugin clsid... .................. and ending with </plugin> with the following:

<plugin clsid="{751B9693-C4D2-4159-9A9F-EF6E67E5280B}" name="MSNDirect" height="75">
</plugin>

Save , copy the file back then reload Neo.
Use the backup to revert back.

I wanted to do the same thing but didn't want to lose the status bar. One thing I tried but didn't devote any time to debugging was using the "Orange plug-in" which is a plug-in that allows other plug-ins to be embedded into it. So ideally, the default plug-in shown is the status bar, but if you press left or right, it'll show another plug-in. The orange plug-in is one of those 'obtained through unofficial channels' things so don't ask, don't tell. smile.gif

Would be so cool to devote the top 20 pixels to cycling through info like weather, stocks, etc.

Well actually I have one such thing going on!! I call it the Neo Dockstation ( http://allshadow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...ckstation#p3790 ) and its nothing but a dynamic layout builder and switcher. It lets me load different plugins on those 20, rather its 27, pixels. The big problem is that plugins like FizzWeather do not allow themselves to be non-selectable; so when I loaded FizzWeather at the top, the functionality of the neo home screen became one-way, meaning pressing up on the D-pad takes me to the top bar and not to the previous tab on Neo. So, I guess either you find plugins that are not-selectable or write your own. I have a WMP Now Playing already written and am now working on a Yahoo Weather!. Once I have them, I shall release the dockstation.

Hi Rinku,

I tried your bar on my Motorola Q9h,its great work by the way biggrin.gif , The problem i can see its not designed for my phone: the bar is too narrow for the screen and it needs a few more options like HSDPA in the connection S o E G & H, would you be able to make these changes or perhaps you could provide the source so i could have a go at making the changes myself.

Thanks

Ian

I am working on adding landscape support to the plugin. Once that is done, I think the plugin will match the Q9h specs (320x240). Glad to know it works outside the Shadow domain.

Okay! Until you say yes at the confirmation the plugin will not load and you shall get a white bar.

If you used the cab installer then see if the following entry is there in the registry.

In HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B06A8DAB-E148-40d5-BE8F-3C494ABF3046}\InProcServer32 :
Name: Default, Type: REG_SZ, Value: iconbarplugin.dll

Also, make sure the xml file of your theme has the entry as specified.

If yes, then switch to a theme that does not have the plugin. Reboot. Now load the theme that has the plugin. Go slow with the key press and wait for the confirmation box.
