You wrote about VxUtils: Thx mate, seems to be exactly what I need, but doesn't run on WM6/Smartphone Any other ideas ? Thats not right. It's buggy and needs to be closed via Taskmanager, but it works (kind of). Have a look here to see how to make it work: Smartphone Tips Collection at XDADeveloperWiki |

Me again...WM6 SGH-i620 here, but this is a device independent problem: When I am using Opera Mobile and, say, open two or three big websites so that the memory gets scarce I sometimes experience a strange thing: the phone shows "no connection" (and no call is possible, too), but Internet (GPRS) still works fine. Neither Hibernation nor stopping and starting the telephone function in connection manager helps. Only thing that helps is restarting the device. I think I read something about the fact that sometimes a critical process that is responsible for telephony gets killed in low memory situations...but I can't find that thread any more. Please, somebody experiencing the same sometimes, or someone knowing what to do? This makes my phone nearly unusable... |

You get the point: some apps just must not go away when memory gets scarce, and AFAIK the apps started from registry HKLM\Init are never killed by WindowsMobile automatically, like normal apps are. Now maybe anybody knows if it is possible to modify a shortcut to an application in a way to make the app look like its been started from init, that is, make it unkillable? I go nuts everytime when my IRC-chat is killed just because I open some very big pages in Opera Mobile... Maybe some WM-guru knows that trick. |

Maybe this is a dumb question, but why don't you just use an online rss feed aggregator service like bloglines.com, newsalloy.com or reader.google.com? They all provide special versions of your feeds for mobile viewing, and you have the same read/unread information on your desktop and mobile. |

I tried a 4GB SDHC and it did not work. Rumors are there is a driver that enables SDHC on the i600 blackjack...are you brave enough to try if it also works on the i620? I resold my card before I could try... |

(I don't know if its the use to reply to reviews on this forum, if not please forgive me...I just can't hold still :-) ) I am using the phone for over a month now. Having had a lot of trouble getting used to windows mobile (coming from Windows CE 2.0) at first and struggling with network problems (I still do, often I get no Internet with full 3G reception) by now I have gotten used to the little thing, and as I really love the hardware I guess I'll keep it. I think its an uncomparable device (hardwarewise) because of the slider-keyboard. The slider is fantastic and stable and makes it so small and elegant looking that people don't even notice you've got a smartphone Here's what came to my mind while reading your very good review: QUOTE The D-Pad doubles as a scroll wheel, ... was just a little too sensitive for my tastes and I found it fiddly to be accurate with it. I found it to be the other way: not sensitive enough. Especially when rotating it very slowly it doesn't do anything. Only rotating it at a minimum speed makes any effect. Looks like the speed of scrolling is not equal to the speed of turning the wheel. Maybe that's what you mean by fiddly? But all in all I think its a big speed improvement once you get used to it. QUOTE Opera Mini I guess you mean Opera Mobile ;-) that thing needs to be customised to be usable IMHO...see my i620 Minisite(german only, maybe babelfish can translate it good enough)QUOTE The Document Viewer provides the excellent full Clearvue suite. I found the PDF viewer of that suite totally useless, as it does not allow horizontal scroll in small steps. So at normal zoom levels you either see the left or the right half of the text...or am I missing something?QUOTE Final Thoughts I must admit that Wifi and GPS are missing, but I think there is no other wm-phone that features that size with full keyboard, right? |

I often use \Windows\Testmode.exe to look at the numeric reception values (instead of relying to the slow and inaccurate antenna bars). Good values (all bars) are around -85 dB, bad values (no bar but still connected) are around -106 dB. That means (very roughly spoken) that every bar (5 total) represents about (106-85/5) 4 db. So when your antenna really amplifies the signal only 2 db you'll most likely see no bar change...or am I wrong? I noticed extreme local changes of reception inside of buildings. But as the antenna bars in my device react with 10-15 seconds delay they are quite useless. Maybe with the use of testmode.exe you'll find a place where you still get a 3G signal. Start testmode.exe, click "1 debug", then "1 Basic Information", then look for values in the range of -85 to -108 ... Just my thoughts, any more expert advice appreciated ;-) |

QUOTE I fear that - for some reason - it's only receiving GPRS speed. The G at the top-right next to the signal bar would indicate that, no? I've got a WM6 Smartphone (SGH-i620) and if that thing uses UMTS (or HSDPA) it shows a "3G" both in the middle of the top bar as well as on the right where the antenna signal bars are. So I think you are right: currently your device is only using GPRS. If your device runs WM6 go to settings -> 1 Phone -> 1 All calls -> 1 Band select and choose Automatic. QUOTE Another issue I have is compatibility... with applications. That is something I also had to learn the hard way: there are only few good Smartphone compatible apps out there. I guess you'll have to live with that (and hope that more and more apps go Smartphone compatibel). Have a look what I use if you like, maybe there's something you need: My SGH-i620 Minisite QUOTE Is there any way to create shortcuts in the start menu for them? You best use Total Commander for that. See the above link. And do yourself a favour and use SmartToolkit as Startmenu...much better than the built in. Hope that helps.
