It's actually LED Alerts that I'm referring to. I'll try the new version- hopefully that'll take care of it. Thanks!

well cool deal then! I just looked, the old version of ledalerts I had that would not do anything with the light after a few days unless you restart the phone or the service was 1.0, the one I have now is 1.02. In the 3 weeks or so I've had it on (right after wm61 upgrade) I don't recall ever not seeing a light when I was supposed to.

in Task manager click menu - view - processes

I used to have to kill and restart ledsrvc for ledalerts all the time and this confused me when I upgraded to 6.1.

(fortunately just after figuring that out I found a new version of ledalerts that works with my reg code and that doesn't need to be killed and restarted.)

Edit: oh never mind I guess that only lets you view them, not kill them at all.

Cabs are hidden from view if you try to find them with the "my stuff" explorer thing. You need to start "file explorer" from start - applications to see cabs. (or a 3rd party file explorer, I like resco)

and google maps always wants a data connection. I guess theoretically you could stuff its cache somehow from a pc with your cities maps but I dunno.

If you want to play around with gps without data and for free you can get gpsvp just search for gpsvp on google. you'll need gpstest and the com4 hack to make it work.

Gpsvp is more of a outdoor sports type gps app, not a driving one. you can put google/ms/openstreetmap/garmin maps on it, it needs a data connection to do this, or you can load at least garmin maps from a pc.

Maps on gps vp are just a background image for you the user to see, it will show you exactly where you are on the map but the program knows nothing about them, it doesn't know if you're on a street or in a pond or anything and cant give you any directions to anywhere other than a straight line pointing at a lat/long waypoint.

Garmin mobile xt (costs money) is supposed to be just like a gps you'd see in a car with voice guided "turn right in point 5 mile" type stuff, I've never tried it though.

ever find a solution to your BT audio problem? same exact issue here with a BJ2 i just got. i upgraded to WM6.1 and no change. audio out sounds fine except when streaming.

No I never did get it to sound good. I saw this thread on the front page again and got excited thinking maybe someone figured it out. but nope, still crappy sounding audio when I connect w/ bt stereo to my car stereo. I upgraded to wm61 too and tried again after that, same thing.

I haven't actively been trying to find a fix though, I've tried gsplayer and conduits pocket player and neither are really "easy" enough for me to use as an mp3 player in the car so I'm sticking to my little creative labs flash player.

If a song's ever in my head that I just have to hear it, I stream it from my mp3s at the house with orb.com to my phone to the stereo with bluetooth. bad sound doesn't bother me if it's just every once in a while and a song that I desperately need to hear that probably has 2nd generation mpeg artifacts from orb anyway (orb reencodes all stuff)

I just took a picture of a dial pad on a regular phone that I saved in my docs. It's not but maybe every couple months that I ever need to dial a number like that.

I ran over my mp3 player with my car so I'm going to attempt to use my phone as one until I get a new one or who knows, maybe I'll like it.

I hate the way wmp only allows you to play one track and then you have to go back to file explorer and click another. unless you build a playlist or do all that music library stuff. i don't want to do that.

I want to play a whole folder of mp3s at once.

I tried something called gsplayer a while back and it would do this, was a bit weird to use but I ended up uninstalling it because it didn't pause the song when a call came in, it just kept on playing while I talked.

I want to geocache and the static nav on the builtin doesn't let that happen.

couple questions:
1 how do I know what I buy won't have static nav?

and 2 I think the bluetooth ones show up as a comport? is that right? do I get to pick it? I have the internal one on com4 with the com4 hack.

Good Answers! I knew there was someone out there who had done it painlessly...

Maybe I'll wait a few weeks and save up some spare time to get it done...

It worked fine for me too, no problems at all.

Took me about 2 hrs in all to do the upgrade and reinstall all my apps.

Wasn't really worth the time I guess, the gps does lock on way fast now, but I hardly use the gps, the threaded sms is ok, voice command has been neat to play around with for the past few days but I really won't end up using it and I still like the "windows default" home screen the best, the new 6.1 home screen doesn't have the recent apps icons at the top and doesn't have the google search bar.

Wow there's a lot more options in the ms gpstest than there used to be.

Assisted and MS BAsed were always there but they didn't do anything as far as I can tell. That supl server 192.168.something entry is new with 6.1 too. with 6.0 my default mode was standalone, now it's ms based.

the server's 192.168 ip means its private so it's part of at&ts network, I would guess if you could find a server that serves out this gps info with a public ip you could get ms based agps on tmobile or another network as long as you had internet access.

What I'm really wondering about now that I see all this new stuff in gpstest is the option QOS, the horizontal accuracy in meters=19 and response time=45secs. Is there something I could change in there to make the gps good for walking/geocaching?

I think I read somewhere, maybe on here that GPS is now assisted in WM6.1? Is that true? assisted by the att towers? or over the internet by MS?

Everyone's been saying they've gotten insanely fast lock-ons.

I didn't really notice, last time I was outside at lunch I was going to see how fast it was with google maps but someone called right as I started it. It had a lock when I went back to it but I have no clue how long it took.

I do have satellites visible (no lock though) inside a huge high-rise office building, that's never happened before.

which GPSID program cause i had to install the gps hack to get garmin mobile to work on 6.1 so to the orginal question yeah it's safe to use.

I did the com4 hack and it's working.

Wondering if I should use this gpsid instead though. I remember last time back on wm6 I installed gpsid and it killed my gps for both comports and intermediate driver until I did a hard reset.

I just did the upgrade, set all my settings how I like and installed everything except for some gps stuff.

Is the old com4hack.cab safe to use on the new WM?

To anyone curious my battery life has been fine the last 3 days, still 4 bars at dinner time. don't know what was up tuesday and why it died so quick. but it doesn't appear I did any type of screwing with my battery life by hard-resetting on a partial batt.

edit: I found out last night the LEDAlerts problem still exists after hard reset.

(I've seen someone else on this forum mention they were having the problem too. After 2 - 3 days ledalerts just doesn't flash the led for any missed calls, texts etc. unless you restart the phone or restart the ledservice)

So a few things were getting weird on my phone including a problem with ledalerts, their tech support suggested a hard reset so I went ahead and did it last night.

Immediately after doing so I remembered reading something once that said make sure to have a fully charged batt when hard resetting because wm sees your battery as "full" after the reset no matter what its charge level is. (and subsequently will never charge it past that level) I didn't do this, my battery was probably only 1/3rd charged.

Is that true that it needs to be full? I can't seem to find much with google.

It charged overnigth last night and I had complete crap battery life today, I got the "warning charge your batt" pop up at about 10pm on light use during the day today. normally I could make it almost 2 days before charging, and make it almost 2 days talking and internetting more than I did today.

If I messed up is there a fix? My friend has a bj2 also, could he charge his batt fully, I put that in mine and hard reset (hope I dont have to) again?

Does anyone know if it's possible to switch profiles using the Silent button, but doing it without holding it down?

I've read it here or howardforums (never tried it though since I don't need to) that you can edit the silent profile to your liking (ring, vibe etc) and the silent button will go to that and back to your previous one you were using before you pushed it. and if you need a silent profile you edit one of the others to make it silent but no longer accessible by the silent button.

Know what I really miss that it seems only cheap nokias had? Timed profiles. go into a restaraunt at 20:00 tell it to be in the vibrate profile until 21:30 and at 21:30 it goes back to what you were on previously.

I'm having the same problem, audio sounds like a 80kbit mp3 mainly it's the cymbals that are really washed out. I don't have bluetooth headphones but my car stereo does bluetooth stereo audio. I know it's not the mp3s themselves or the WMP because I have a headphone adapter and if I plug it in to my phone and the line in on the car stereo it sounds perfect.

I asked on a different forum and they said there are a few different protocols for stereo audio over bluetooth and both devices phone and headphones/car stereo need to have in common ONE of the good protocols for it to sound good. If they don't have a good prot in common they use a default crappy one that everything has.

Kinda makes me wonder what is lacking something good, the BJII or my stereo/your headphones?

(i've always thought it was my stereo that was crappy, it was $130 and a Sony. I'm generally anti-sony but couldn't resist the price. It does do good for handsfree speakerphone though.)

Why not keep it on at night? Don't want to get woke up by calls?

If that's the case you can just create an appointment called "sleeping" or something for the whole time you sleep and set your ringer profile to "auto".

When it's on auto it switches to silent mode for any busy time. you'll want to have it come out of silent mode before it's time for the alarm though.

what do you guys use to play 3gps on the PC? Only thing I have now is VLC and it's kinda hit or miss with 3gps.

If I really want it to play I use something called total video convertor and make an mpeg but that's a bit of trouble for something that really should be kindof a standard now.

When I was using my nokia 6682 symbian phone the nokia pc suite would play 3gps great but I didn't really feel like keeping it around just for that.

Wondering about this too. My problem's not as bad as yours, my Jabra earpiece stays paired for about a week or so before I have to re-do it, but still it's kind of annoying.

Also I have a Sony car stereo with handsfree bluetooth and bluetooth stereo music. The phone never loses the stereo's pairing for handsfree calls, it comes up everytime. Anytime I want to listen to bluetooth music from the phone I have to go into connections, find the sony stereo and re-check the checkbox for stereo headset.

Here's the situation. Brand new Blackjack II (Red). Google Maps, Live Search, and GPS Test all get a GPS lock fine. However, I can't get any program that requires a COM port to work right. I've tried it with the MoDaCo hack on both COM3 and COM4, and with the GPSID config utility on COM2, COM4, COM6. All I get is a failure to connect to the GPS. This same thing happens on both Mapopolis and GPS Utilities.

Does anyone have a recommendation here? I've tried all the tweaks and hacks I know of with no luck. I'd really like to get a COM port working.

I've seen a bunch of people here say gps utilities doesn't work no matter what.

Also, I know this is the case for gpsvp and it may be for other gps apps that access via comport, but at least for gpsvp you have to first let gpstest get a lock and then leave gps test running in the background

I don't like using bandsel because that locks you into either 850 or 1900 and I travel outside of 850 coverage sometimes. If you force gsm from the admin menu it will still switch between 850 and 1900.

I've been set on gsm only for about a month now (except on weekends I go back to 3g since I wont be travelling and might be playing around more with browsers and vtap) I'm getting lots better battery life and no dropped calls at all (I get a dropped call or 2 per day when I'm on 3g)

A trick I learned, might be easier than disabling data before going to the admin menu to do the switch, go to wireless manager turn the phone radio off then back on and you should be able to make the change in the admin menu no problem.

Is there any other way to get notified for call waiting other than the beep that completely cuts out your other party's voice and I've heard maybe mine too? Never had such an intrusive call waiting beep on any other phone.

Sometimes a call is somewhat important and I cant switch over to tell the newer caller to wait a minute so I just keep getting that beep. it's terrible.

I have problems not seeing lights for sms or missed calls every once in a while, usually if the phone's been on for 3+ days without a reboot, I don't notice about voicemail since no one leaves me voicemail or meeting notices because I always keep snoozing them until I dismiss. but missed calls and sms don't show sometimes and I have to restart the phone OR go into task manager and kill ledservice and then restart it by going to the start menu then led alerts and hitting it's start button, that makes them work again.

I emailed ledalerts tech support and they said it was probably a registry error and to try a hard reset (sounds like a canned response) too much work for me to try right now with all the stuff I have on my phone, but I might one of these days.

If you don't want to pay for extra messages to test sms alerting you can go to your inbox, select a message and do "mark as unread" and that will make your sms led come on.

Does turning of 3G affect the sending of text/multimedia messages?

It still works if that's what you mean. I don't think the messages mms or sms go through the regular internet connection, but surely they are limited in transfer speed by the data connection, a big mms message might take a little while longer to send but it still goes and it's in the background anyway. It'd be like if you had some mail client app on your pc that sent data to ip x.x.x.x and you switched from 5mbit cable to 1.5mbit dsl, the app will still work, it'll just take longer to xfer.

I only switch back to 3g for watching youtube and such videos with vtap, they just don't seem to go at all with gprs/edge. Web browsing seems fine to me on gprs/edge, and hey, all kinds of people paid like $400 for iphones with only gprs/edge web access.
