Confucious... Is it possible for me to flash my c550 to WM6? ive read here that it wasnt possible to flash to smartphone 2005 and that if people tried it would make a brick?

so is it possible flashing to 2005 would make a brick? but flashing to wm6 would not?

one last question, i found another piece of software i'd like to put on my phone, but same issue, due to having vista i can't install it. i searched for a .cab but no luck.. is there a work around for us smartphone 2003 users and vista? or a way to get into the .exe files and grab the cab's?

ok i found a tip calculator .cab file http://software.techrepublic.com.com/abstr...px?docid=286764

put the .cab file in install folder installed it. and program shows up in start menu but i get this error this application (tip calculator.exe) requires a newer version of the microsoft . NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device

when i click on Details about the error it says tipcalculator.exe Invaild Program Exception.

hi awarner, the reason i showed the smart ruler screens,is because i knew\know that it has been installed before and worked and now that proggy wouldnt install, so i thought i would post the one that use to work, in hopes once that was fixed\able to install, that the tip calculator would install as well.

and i also checked my screen shots and the first screen shot says... os pocket pc (is this what you are refering to? the OS says smartphone 2003, and it was in my spv installed folder, meaning it has been on my device, and i also have the receipt that i payed for the smart ruler, Also i emailed the smart ruler developer a few days ago and they never mentioned anything about that.. maybe i should email them back and let them know what you found?

device center... when i plug my c550 into computer windows explorer pops up showing me the smartphone also i see smartphone folder in my computer...and it shows storage and storage card, if i go in those folder it looks identical to the old active sync 4.5. is this what you mean by device centre application? also when i tried installing smart ruler, or the tip calculator, the files were on my desktop, they are .exe files i don't see a .cab file with them, i just doubled clicked them in vista and it brigs up the installer and then it goes through the isntalling process. (as shown in screenshots pics) also i checked my spv folder, and i dont seem to have any .cab files there? any ideas where i can get a .cab file to test this please?

i just recieved an email form smart ruler with an attachment one was smart ruler.zip one was.cab

I installed the .cab and the smart ruler installed and worked fine on my cell.

So i guess this brings us to it being a Vista issue? What do i do being i don't have XP anymore? how do i get the tip calculator? or any other program i may want on my spv in the future to work on my phone? out of curiosity.. would a virtual pc with active sync on xp work? or is there a workaround for me so i can get the tip calculator(other smartphone software that i would like on my cell.) to work with my vista machine?

i downloaded it with windows vista ultimate, double click'd it, it started to run it then finished installs (everytime when it chose default path it asked me to check device to see if there was anything else that needed to be done, and there was nothing on my cell, like there use to be then it just said finish. (see screenshots )and i tried iinstalling it 3 times with main memory, storage, and storage card, so i went to my spv installed folder (a folder of items that i have installed on my phone or had on my computer) and i tried reinstalling a program called smart ruler, and i tried installing in all 3 locations as well, main memory, storage, and storage card. and the error i get is (smart ruler)(tip calculator) Pocketdevelop.com Smartruler.cab failed to install on your device.

so i have no clue what has happened or how to fix it?

I used my spv's file manager under start accessories, and then went to Storage/Windows/AppMgr and then clicked on the install folder, and it is empty... any other suggestions please?

i have a spv c550, windows 2003 and im trying to get an app called tip calculator to install no matter where i choose to install it, on my cell it says it failed to install, i tried 3 of my other programs i had bought and tried installing them to test it, and those won't install either?

Any ideas how come my spv c550 fails to install these apps now?

Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

i have 5 MB of memory left. so that should adequate!?

I'm on vista ultimate.. could that be the issue??

I just posted this elsewhere few weeks back and no reply. i found this post. For some reason my email notifications arent getting to me. but i will save this page to check back for replies, since you were so kind to reply back to me.

i did this today.

i FINALLY figured out how to turn off the menu pop sound. i went to reg edit hkey current user, control panel, sounds menu popup, and delete the sound value, and now when i press the menu button it is silent

ONLY thing i need to figure out BECAUSE i dont know what these reg keys are, is after making a selection in the menu, a few seconds later there is a pop sound. So im not sure where that would be or what it would be called.

It's like a selection sound within a menu, or it is a confirmation that the action chosen within a menu has worked.

Example when i hit menu. NO sound now, But when i hit delete text message, it will delete the text message and then i hear a pop or click .wav sound.

Anyone know what that might be called in the registry so i can remove it please? that is the only sound i need to get rid of.

ALSO AWARNER I just check my profile setting its all in vibrate and no sound
i noticed AGAIN when i goto start settings profiles highlight silent then choose menu edit, the phone vibrates, then a few seconds later i here a click sound\or pop sound.. So its everytime after choosing a menu command that it makes this vibrate then click sound.

hi wondering if someone could guide me where in regedit. do i shut off the annoying click sound when i goto email sms, and choose menu\delete i get this annoying click sounds. even though I'm in vibrate\silent mode.. I'm in regedit sounds but not sure which one would shut off this annoying clicking sound. i woul dlike to keep the vibrate on menu popup if possible. but if there is no way to get rid of the click sound with out getting rid of vibrate on menu popup. then i will remove that if i have to. I need my phone to be fully silent when in meetings. these clicks are distracting for others when i have it in silent mode. Always happens when choosing menus\delete etc..
Just dont know where to shut this off or where to delete the key.

So i thought i would give back to the modaco community and to the USA users.
hope this helps some of you. i have also forwarded these directions to T-mobile themselves. and there tier 3 support, XDA\pda support may be able to give you further help if these don't work.
instructions are as follows

How to configure Smartphone for T-Mobile

(MY MODEL ORANGE SPV-C550) This may also work with other SPV models, c500,e100, e200, and newer models, if from the U.K and an orange network phone unlocked for T-mobile.

Go into data connections, Start, settings, data connections.

Internet choose t-mobile
Work connection - choose automatic
WAP connection - choose T-mobile
Secure Wap Connection - Automatic
Choose menu - options
Redial attempts-3
Idle disconnect after - 10 minutes
My desktop connects to - the Internet

Hit done, hit menu, edit connections, dialup connections hit joystick-delete everything hit done, VPN connections hit joystick-delete everything hit done
Proxy connections, delete everything, then menu, new,
Connects from -the Internet,
Connects to - WAP network,
Proxy (name:port) - 216.155.165.050,
Type - WAP,
Username\password - EMPTY. Hit done. Hit done

Should be back to connections use joystick select gprs hit joystick delete everything,
Then choose menu add
Connects to - the Internet,

Next go to to home screen,(this may be different on your spv, just look for similar steps to finding your mms settings)

Mine is ----> From homescreen, start, more, configurations gprs authentication - choose PAP authentication, hit ok then choose MMS Settings, select the following...Retrieve Immediatelly, no. Of attempts 3, photo resolution original resolution. Then hit menu, MMsc settings hit joystick under mmsc settings delete everything, then under mmsc settings it should be blank use joystick choose menu new,
Name - PictureMessaging,
MMSC URL- http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms,
Wap Gateway - 216.155.165.50,
Port - 8080,
Connect Via - Wap Network,
Max sending size - 100k,
Wap Version- Wap 2.0, hit done under mmsc settings should have one selection named pictureMessaging and should be check mark in front of it, if not use joystick choose menu then set as default.

Next Internet exploer, start Internet exploer, use joystick hit menu, under options use joystick hit connections select -automatically detect settings. Then use joystick select network- Wap Network

And that's required for my SPV on tmobile.

i have a c550, and i'm wondering if it is possible to shut off my call waiting ringtones, sms messages, email sounds. it's really annoying for myself and friends and family when i'm on a call and i get text messages, and my phone makes noises, not to mention blows my ear drum AWAY.

Any help would be appreciated!!

by copying all your ringtones from storge card to application data, that will fill up phones memory correct? anyway to have custom ringtones like one does in storage application data sounds, but have them all on storage card so that when a contact calls it will use there appopriate ringtone from the storage card?? or can you only set up ONE ringtone to work from storage card?

any way to see where the phones memory usage has went? i have erased all email\sms\call history\speed dial voice notes, and it still says total storage (flash) storage 26.97mn used 24.09 MB free 2.88MB.

in programs i have sp taskmanager, gpc media player tweak, gpc, mp3 fix, gpc sound fix, gpc volume dialog fix, gpc wma fix, mossywell copy files, tcpmp the core pocket player, and virtuoffice photoplug.

where can i free up memory? how can i tell where else it might be being used?

I just plugged phone in and under storage sounds i copied all my ringtones to desktop and the total file size is 17.6 MB. Can i transfer all my ringtones to my sd card? and will they work when people call? maybe this is my fix? if so... is there a link for a registry edit for my ringtones? so when people call i will still hear there ringtones but it will be coming from storage card instead of phones memory? When i mention ringtone, i mean all the ringtones. or is having a ringtone on sd card mean only one ringtone would work?

yes i have deleted all messages. my phones available storage is 2.92 mb total is 26.97 mb available memory is 31.36mb total is 51.60
any other ideas? would really like to figure this out, cause alot of people have been texting my pictures and i cant view them, or send them back.

Hi i've been a user of spv's since the E100-200

Recently here in the usa its getting to be a big thing to send picture messages via text. i have contacted tmobile and all my settings are correct for the network to send but every time i send i get a free up memory error.

All my sms, email etc are cleaned but still says free up memory. any ideas guys? is there away for me to default mms to my 2 gig sd card? what is happening here? is there a workaround?

I dont have internet access(payed access) but tmobile sayed i should be able to send and recieve mms via text messaging with the settings they gave me. and they said its a phone problem due to the memory error i'm getting

Hope someone can help me? or guide me in the right direction. i know it will be difficult due to you all being over seas, but from what i've read here many of you over seas have run into mms size issues as well. Any workaround yet? sure fire fix?

I have a 1 gig card and i'm trying to throw 689 mb's of songs on it but when i start the transfer w\ windows media player, or even if i put the card in my lappy, it will only put on about 300 mb, so i'm sitting here w\ and available 600 some MB's FREE? and ideas why they won't transfer?

Hi i use to have the E 100, and jus got the e200, and i forgot what the steps were to make my ape files, into ????? the correct smallest format w\ best quality for my my storage card on my spv, I'm using a 1 gig card, and can only seem to get about 150 songs on it?

Any ideas? i been converting all my music ape files to Windows media, can i convert them more? most my music files are around 3.7 to 4.9 mb'safter conversion? seems large to me?
