One of the most useful tools will be a tool to turn Bluetooth on and off...instead of the three step process now... I have tried several ...none of them work on Q9H There was a guy who made a tool for Palms that would do this. In fact it would make the OS think that BT was on and would toggle it off and on as needed by an applications. It was appropriately named BTToggle. |

Newest Usb drivers I got from Motorola developer site. Also here is a full registry editor that rocks because trying to edit it using the Q is a serious pain in the ass. It has become my most favorite editor for the Q9h. I'm going to keep this going. Add some programs should you find them and they are freeware. Night. Jason I've had several problems with Mobile Registry Editor and I find it cumbersome to use since it has no search feature. Occasionally it will report an error when trying to access a registry key. My understanding is that this utility is no longer in development and has been abandoned by the creator. Pesonally I'd avoid it, although I agree that is is nice to be able to edit the phone's registry from your PC. |

QUOTE Enable MS Voice Command activation from BT headset Install Voice Command to the default location. Fire up a registry editor Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand Modify the string marked "path" from the default \Windows\SDDialer.exe to \Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe Now, when you press your BT headset connect button, MS Voice command will fire up and take commands through the headset. It's reponses will be played through the headset too. Checking my new Q9 I do not see this registry key on the phone and furthermore, MS Voice Command works with my BT headset right out of the box. Either this hack is incorrect or no longer required. |

Just noticed that in addition to the vibrate icon -- you also loose the "headphone" icon -- found this out when trying to make a call -- display showd call going thru and answered -- but never got any sound ??? -- found I forgot to turn my S9 off, and the sound was all going there, previous to this I had a headphone icon when ever the BT headset was paired. LEs I didn't do the Reg Hack for the GPS icon but I also noticed that the handsfree/headphone icon no longer displays when using my BT headset. I am wondering if something in the cab install blew that away? I've also had several issues with some of the settings. I temporarily lost my Internet and Email sync but a call to ATT and resetting the GPRS and Proxy Connections settings has everything working again. Windows Live can connect to GPS even though I have not set a Comm port with GPSID. Setting to Program Port to COM3 seems to work with Google and Windows Live. Life is good. |

I know that the GPS on the Q9h is not normally assigned to a COM port. There are cab files which can assign the GPS to a COM port, but I believe that leaves it on 100% of the time (which you would want if your phone was stolen, but not otherwise). I am not sure if there are cab files to switch the GPS back to factory defaults. As far as I have seen, any program which looks for a COM port for a GPS device does not work on the Q9h. I may be wrong on this, but it is my experience after messing around with several phones (only about half of which worked with Google Maps GPS). Thanks for the feedback. You may be correct as the application WIMP is trying to use a COM port. You can select which one it uses but it is definitely using a COM port. I noticed that Google lets "Windows" set the GPS and Windows Live uses the "Intermediate" driver. I'll have to pass this back to the WIMP support team. |

As Jason points out you cannot use a cellular phone to connect to an analog fax machine over GPRS. Since your cellular phone is a "digital" device it cannot directly connect to faxes or modems. What you need is a CSD connection. In the past there were cellular providers who would provision a Circuit Switched Data (CSD) connection which basically would emulate an analog connection thereby allowing for a connection between your cellular phone and an analog modem (dial-up networking for example). I don't know for sure but I suspect ATT has no interest in you getting a CSD connection and may not even have the ability to provision one. I supposed you could call them and ask. I think some sort of online fax service might be the only way for you. |

Greetings, I am testing an Anti-Theft application called WIMP (Where Is My Phone) which claims that they can send GPS coordinates from your phone by send it a simple text message. This would be very useful for both theft and/or lost phones. In testing the application I cannot get WIMP to record the GPS coordinates even after waiting for 10 minutes and setting the minimum number of sattelites to 3. I have read all the posts on activating the GPS on the Moto Q9 (ATT version) but it is unclear as to whether I actually need to load any of the COM Activation tools or GPS Test. I am able to get Google Maps and Windows Live Search working just fine with the GPS. Sat lock can take a few minutes from a cold start but that is to be expected. WIMP, on the other hand, can never seem to get either Sat lock or perhaps it just can't turn on the GPS. The support team for WIMP pointed me to this site for more assistance. I suspect they may not have a Motorola Q9 to test with. Is anyone out there using WIMP with the Moto and/or do you have any recommendations? Thanks in advance TC PS - Since originally posting this I have installed and used both Windows Live and Google Maps so I know the GPS is working. It appears that I need to get the correct baud rate for the COM port. I am defaulting to Com4 but maybe that's not the best one to use for the GPS. Google is set to "Let Windows configure GPS" and Windows Live uses the Intermediate Driver. Any ideas? |
