I'd also be interested in a group buy.

What kind of saving is likely if it does happen?

Hi,

Unfortunately my Hermes seems to be dying, so I need to use one of my old phones for a while.

I have a backup of the pim.vol file containing my contacts info from the hermes, but copying this onto my wizard running wm5 did not work for me.

Does anyone know how I can get the data from the pim.vol onto either the wizard or a c500?

Thanks.

Thanks for all the help, finally got it working although I had to completely remove and reinstall both outlook and activesync before everything would work properly.
Knowing about the pim.vol file was the key.

There really is a serious problem with activesync though - there's no way that removing a partnership should involve any data being deleted from the phone.

I've been using an exchange server with my Hermes for about a year, no problems.
I no longer needed the service as I'm not travelling around so much anymore, so I didn't renew my exchange service.

I removed the exchange account from outlook on my pc, and all my contacts etc were removed from outlook, they were still on the phone, and in more up to date form as I hadn't synched with the exchange sever for a while, so that was ok.

What I didn't expect was that when I removed the exchange connection from Activesync on my phone and then synced with my PC, this would remove all the contacts from the phone (and without any warning) rather than copying them onto the PC.
This could have been catastrophic, but I managed to sync the phone with the exchange server and get my contacts back with literally about 10 minutes to spare before my account was going to be deleted.

So how do I back my contacts up on to the PC? If I connect the phone and go into activesync I can't sync with the PC as it will only let me sync contacts with one source, but if I go to uncheck the box to sync contacts with the exchange server, I get a warning telling me that this will result in all my contacts being removed from the phone. This is not an option as the only remaining copy is the one on my phone.

How do I get the exchange server connnection out of my config and get everything syncing with the pc again without losing my contacts?

Is there some kind of application that I can install on my hermes that makes it possible to share a PC's internet connection without first installing activesync on that machine?

It would be great to be able to connect via a USB cable to any PC and sync with my exchange server without having to put software on whoever's PC I've hijacked,
people don't seem to like me installing programs on their machines.

Looks good, got it set up already.
Suprised you don't have a referral program!

I'm travelling around the world soon and would like to set up an exchange account so that I can backup my calendar and contacts from my M3100 while I'm on the move, in case it gets lost or stolen. I would also, ideally, like to be able to access this information via the web in Internet Cafe's etc...

Can anyone reccomend a provider for this?

There must be a registry value that can be altered to disable the 'message sent' popup entirely.

I've seen this for other PPC's but the registry key that they point to does not exist on my M3100.

Anyone know where to look?

Every post I've seen regarding the button on a bluetooth headset seems to ask how to change it from activating the voice dialer, but I have a BT803 headset, and pressing the button on this just activates the dialpad - I suspect it runs phone.exe. Ideally I'd like to change this to activate MS voice command.

Does anyone know how to do this, or failing that, know of a registry editor that will allow me to search for all references to phone.exe?

Edit: It's not phone.exe, it's cprog.exe, the shortcut is called phone...

Why not just backup the whole device? Then you don't have to worry about losing anything.

Sunnysoft or SPB both make good backup utilities.

I might want to upgrade my device to use a different rom, and set it up with different programs installed, or even transfer my contacts with the voice tags on to another phone.

Will the backup software mentioned allow me to do this?

If I have to hard reset my phone, I'd hate to have to sit there re-recording all the voice tags I've created for my contacts, so does anyone know if/how they can be backed up?

I'm pretty sure that I've set up PPC Profiles Pro on my M3100 in exactly the same way that I had it set up on my Wizard, but it won't work properly.

First of all it was failing to get the correct ringtone to play - I kept getting the default one. I got that started, but now if I tap on the tray icon in order to change profile the phone locks up entirely and I have to do a soft reset.

Has anyone else experienced similair problems?

i have tomtom running on my m3100 while using a bluetooth headset. it all works fine, but the tomtom instructions dont come through the headset.

i'd prefer it this way. the speaker on the m3100 is certainly loud enough for my tastes and i wouldnt want "in 300 yards, turn right" interupting my conversations on my headset.

Well that wouldn't happen anyway, as the instructions are usually muted during a phonecall.

Is the speaker on the M3100 appreciably louder than that on a wizard?

Ok, thanks, that looks like a possibility, although it looks as though it would be dangling below the phone in a rather annoying manner.

I was thinking maybe a bluetooth headset might be a good idea, but I have no idea whether this will work with TomTom - ie can the phone be connected simultaneously to both the GPS receiver and the headset, and would the TomTom instructions come through on the headset?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere....

I'm expecting delivery of an m3100 tomorrow, but have only just found out about the combined USB/headphone port - I understand that I can't have the headset and the charger plugged in simultaneously.

Typically I'd use my Wizard in the car with TomTom running, with both the charger and headset plugged in.
I find using TomTom via speaker makes me miss instructions, particularly with music playing on my car stereo, and that running TomTom without the charger means I get where I'm going with less battery power left than I want.

As I can't plug both in, what do you reccomend I do with the M3100?

Hi
I was getting the same problem as you but after putting ppcprofiles in the tray instead of having a screen plugin it seems to work fine (and looks better IMO)

I've now tried using the PPC Profiles Pro from the system tray for a few weeks, I much prefer the home screen plugin with text buttons.

Does anyone have a solution for the problem with this though. The homescreen plugin is never visible after a soft reset.

Just to update on this problem, I've recently updated my wizard with the latest Imate ROM and installed the latest version of PPCProfiles Pro, and now this problem is occuring every single time I start up or soft reset the phone.
The today screen plugin never comes up and I have to uncheck and then check it in the today screen options to get it to appear.
Is there any way of solving this?

I just flashed my vario with the latest ROM from imate, and I'm very happy with it. One difference from my previous ROM that has been annoying me, however, is that I no longer seem to be able to access the call history screen easily. Previously I had call history mapped to the voice dial button so it would come up with one press, but with the new ROM it is not possible to select call history in the Settings/Buttons screen, and I can't see a link or executable for it in any of the directories on the phone. It seems that it is only accessible by going into the dialler screen and selecting the call history button there.

Does anyone know how I can get round this? I'd really like to access this screen easily with one button press again.

I have this problem too, about half the time I soft reset the phone it starts up without the profile buttons appearing on the today screen. Until now, I just kept resetting the phone until it loaded up properly - didn't realise that you could get the buttons back by going into the today screen settings.

This is happening on my Wizard, btw.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of the Brodit car mount designed for the Wizard in landscape mode with the keyboard open? I can see it on their site, but not on handnav.co.uk, and brodit's uk supplier (nemesis) seems to have a particularly unhelpful website. I'm after the 'passive' one.

Is it possible to sync my Wizard with my PC via WiFi? I want to do this firstly in my house - where they're both on the same LAN.

Apologies if this is dealt with elsewhere, I did search.

Ther article on the XDA developers site that you mention is the one that I used to get my MMS working. Obviously you can't follow the instructions precisely because you're starting off with T-Mobile settings and not O2 ones, but the settings in that article are correct.

Something that's been annoying me about my vario is that whenever I start up the Picture & Video viewer, or Windows Media Player, they will initially display the content on my internal memory. As I keep all such content on my storage card this is somewhat annoying because I have to select storage card from the drop down menu every time.

Is there a way of making these programs display the content on the storage card by default when I start them up?
