Gizmodo.com is claiming that the alpha version of Firefox will be released to the public in a few weeks time. Once Firefox gets released it will be cut throat rivalry between 3 major players Opera , Skyfire and Firefox. Lets not consider IE , unless they bring out some radical changes in the new version which only they are excited about rolleyes.gif .

By now you would have heard that WM7 is delayed...

Microsoft had to announce something to keep WM users happy so they are showing off IE6 for Windows Mobile 6. A free update is always good but with other free options like Opera and Skyfire ( Open beta in US, hopefully the rest of the world will get to use it soon ) does this news excite anyone ?

theunwired.net has got some pics of the browser in action. Trust me there is nothing to see there, if you are interested in this just jump on and have a look.

zzzz.. Wake me up when you have something to announce about Deepfish? Whatever happened to that project anyway?

@ encece there should be a separate Professional / Standard Pack..

Hi Pony99CA good to see you here mate, I am assuming you are the same dude from pocketnow

Paul , I think you should let people nominate application and then have a vote to decide which application should be selected for the pack

I potential problem i see with this is many of us might already have a licensed version of some of the application on offer.. One suggestion I have is offering many application for the bundle and letting the user choose the 10 apps he/she like ( might not be a feasible idea but users might find this more appealing )

EDIT : didnt read the whole thread , looks like my theory was already discussed wink.gif

I am new but I think there should be a utilities program or maybe Omnia already had one to use for cleaning all the junkie? Just want to run and clean up all the junk if any in my I900. Also, what's a good back up software?

There are may backup softwares from developers like SPB, but the one I use is a freeware called PIM BackUp ( not sure if it will work well the Omnia ) ( one drawback is that it dosent support MMS backup )

Since I upgraded to Vista I can no longer change files on my WM5 smartphone. I've been told that GSFinder+ was able to do this, but it looks like it's for PPC only and that it actually runs on the phone rather than what ActiveSync used to allow me to do which was edit it from Windows. Are there tools or whatever that would allow me to do what I want to customize my phone?

Sorry for the spam if this is a FAQ...

dekdout

I am assuming you are looking for a tool like Active Sync for Vista . Ms decided to change the name ActiveSync to windows vista device center

get it here : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-...ice-center.mspx

According to engadgetmobile.com. The SDK allows developers to create custom, interactive panels for the touchscreen QWERTY’s Panel Interface. Sony Ericsson claims that, “The Xperia X1 will offer the richest mobile user experience, putting the world at the fingertips of the user.” Sony Ericsson will offer a panel download service in the future, showcasing all the panels built by all developers.

The Panel Applications are meant to be simple, rich, and fully-interactive allowing quick access to your data — eMail, calendar, multimedia, games, IM, etc. Check the video @ engadget for more info

Now the wait begins for developers to get theirs hands dirty , so what Panel are you looking to get ?

Looks like Microsoft wants to jump on the bandwagon of a Mobile application store. Well eventually they had to because iphone has one Android has made it clear with the idea of Android Market. Its going to be called SkyMarket , @ least for now. It might end up being called as Windows Mobile 7 Mobile Application Download Center... yeah I am still mad about Vista Mobile Device Center why change ActiveSync ? WHY ????

According to the ad posted Sunday on Computerjob.com, the Skymarket senior product manager will head a team that will "drive the launch of a v1 marketplace service for Windows Mobile." Microsoft is looking to roll out its own centralized marketplace as soon as 2009 with the release of Windows Mobile 7 as a couple of job postings indicate.

Source : news.cnet.com & istartedsomething.com

So will Skymarket stop you from visiting Handango or other similar sites ?

If you own a Touch Diamond are are always on the lookout for G-Sensor enabled applications you would know Koushik Dutta, he has provided some excellent API for the other hackers to work on. Now his latest contribution the Stylus Sensor

He also promises to release an tool that allows users to launch any application, shortcut, sound file, etc, when the stylus is removed from the device.

If you are feeling brave you can play around with this Registry Key :

CODE
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Keybd\StylusOutStatus

( make sure you back the Registry First )

So what kind of feature do you this this can be used for ?

If you guys were to choose between Touch Pro / Diamond / S740 what would you choose ? ( Ignore the Price factor for this selection)

As you all might already know the HTC Touch Pro has TV-out functionality, unfortunately the TV-Out cable is not provided by HTC. Fortunately for us sub69 from xda-developers.com has put up a post describing in pictures how well this function really works.

When you plug it in the TV-Out you get the option to choose between NTSC and PAL. The device also automatically rotates to landscape mode. The Menu screen gives you quick access to applications like Powerpoint Mobile , the Youtube player and Internet using the Opera Mobile.

He also played a movie using Coreplayer and reported there was a bit of flicker when using the “Qtv Display” option, but the “DirectDraw” option was flicker free, and worked flawlessly! No slowdown or judder at all with a 700Mb file, and the picture quality on the TV was surprisingly good. ( so the Video Driver issue that plagued the TyTN2 might not bother the Touch Pro ).

Impressive...?

OK, I've download the NavDBG tool and played with it... strictly speaking this isn't multitouch, or not multitouch in the way that the apple looks at it. It's single touch but split into 3 areas. Basically imagine the button area at the bottom of the diamond is split into 3 columns.

You have 3 single touch areas:
1) On the left with the home and dial buttons
2) In the middle tracking outside the circle or also detecting a touch (not a button press) inside the circle. If you finger touches both outside and inside the circle, outside the circle takes precedence
3) On the right with the back and hangup buttons.

The multitouch impression comes from the fact that all 3 of these single touch areas can be used simultaneously.

This doesn't in my opinion open up brilliant options in terms of pinch to shrink spread to enlarge ala apple, but it does mean that a device fairly limited in terms of buttons could get a lot of good enhancements to useability.

My biggest annoyance with the device is when you are trying to gesture in TF3D or in an app (eg scrolling in opera) and it decides you've tapped mid gesture and follows a link etc, using the louch sensitive lower areas for gestures would eliminate this problem and make for a much better user experience (in my opinion).

Also, for games, the potential to use the touch sensitive lower area for a range of game controls would be great.

So all good stuff, but not strictly speaking multitouch.

oh.. there goes my multi-touch theory... do u mind if i post this info on my blog ?

I used it on Vista with Outlook 2007 , but my vista started playing up and i couldnt open outlook , rename , move files etc . I stopped emoze client and removed it from start up and every thing seems to be ok now.

This might be an isolated incident , having said that the service offered by them is gr8 for a free service...

I never tried it via bluetooth, but if you have connected your device to your laptop via Active Sync then you can do a Connection Sharing to get Internet on your laptop via your PocketPC.

Connection Sharing can be enabled / disabled from the Communication Manager Screen

What is the one thing that iphone users brag about a lot? Multi-Touch, which enables them to perform features like pinch zoom in and out. Well, if this video is anything to go by, we are going to get this feature too, well @ least the HTC Diamond / Touch Pro users will...

Using an internal HTC application called Nav Debug Tool, the video shows that the whole front of the device can track finger movements, and even ** drum roll ** two fingers can be tracked simultaneously. So far there is no know feature on the Touch Diamond/ Pro that exploits this, but once the good folks @ xda-developers get their hands on the API I imagine we won't have to wait too long!

So what feature do you want with Multi-Touch? I am sure Paul should be getting some crazy ideas on how to exploit this feature... biggrin.gif
