Hey, very nice! You did an awesome amount of work, writing your own assembler, copmiler, map editor, and game all by yourself! Its incredible... I have written games for the Z80 processor (in the TI-83) in assembly, but I guess thats nothing compared to you.
I'm one of the administrators of the forum of Maxcoderz(www.maxcoderz.com), a group that writes games for the ti-83(+). One of our members opened a topic about the Game King with a link to your website. The Game King is one of the few devices with an even crappier screen than the ti83(+): an even lower res, but with 4-level grayscale By the way, are you aware of any European/American Game King resellers? I want one! |

It must have been an enormous work to manually make a damn good optimized and fully working emulator for the GB© and GG! My respect I tried your latest build but the sound on "Zelda: Oracle of Ages" and "Zelda: Oracle of Seasons" is still much to fast. |

Whoa this emulator is good.
You asked for bugs. Well i found at least one, at some gameboy games. When you play Zelda: Oracle of Ages or the similar zelda, the music plays way to fast and sounds cracky. Similar in the overworld of Mario Land 2. I've only tested one gamegear game: Sonic and Tales. It plays perfect BTW, why would you want landscape mode? The screens are rectangular and fit in the regular screen mode... |

M$ wont put money into big smartphone games unless their's a reasonable market to sell it to. Our phones are mainly sold as business phones, so there might not be 'gamers' yet that are willing to pay the money for a big game. At least until MS-Smartphones will become priced in the mid-range, and i'm sure that will happen seeing how advanced phones are getting more cheaper and more common every year.
Our time will come And there are 3d engines out there that can do the trick, and as i'm a informatics student myself with some experience and interest in game development, i might try to make a simple 3d game on the phone. If this can be made on a calc: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/filei.../344/34428.html Then a similar game with better graphics can be made for our phone! |

One more bug. When i'm in level 2 and i enter the room with the pool table, the game crashes. I think it has to be something with the pool table code that crashes... |

Extremely well done. By far the best smartphone game yet.
Ever seen the GBA duke3d? Its extremely crappy in comparison to this! Ever seen duke3d for a Nokia phone? I dont think so! bugs I saw in the first few minutes of play: - in the 'low' detail level, there's a problem with the amount of drawn (vertical) scanlines (/rays). It seems you draw too much, the scanlines wrap around the screen.. - in the 'high' detail level, when you die, only half the screen is drawn. Also seems to be a problem of number of scanlines. Looks like the number of scanlines stays the same as in normal straight viewing mode, while they should be increased since there's a wider viewing window. - when descreasing screen size, the viewing window doesnt center correctly. - wrong colors at title screen and loading screen. - non-shareware episodes are selectable but crash - sometimes it seems to take forever until the speed stabilizes. |

One potential problem is that the levels seem to be of raycaster-style: for example, each spot on the 2d plane has a maximum of 1 floor and 1 ceiling, which would be the reason the engine runs so fast. Monsters etc. seem to be incorrectly drawn when partially walls etc. These problems may be existent because of problems blending the raycaster-level with real 3d objects (monsters, scenery etc). Framerates drop dramatically when monsters are drawn in full-screen (or actually half screen since only half the screen is used). |

I think it could certainly be used for racing, some kind of wipe-out game. That game even rocked on my 486.
And i'm also waiting for feedback from the more experienced smartphone programmers... I'm actually coming back here every hour, hoping for a reply By the way, the Yeti3D site seems to be down for the moment. Maintenance, or some kind of site update, i guess. |

The shoot button (the left function key) seems to work as the menu selector. Entering the menu goes with the back-arrow key.
Has anyone seen the bilinair filtering'ish magic, when looking at textures from close? By the way, the sounds/music sound normal at my mpx200. |

Yeti3D is a fast, portable 3d engine that's already been ported to the GBA, PocketPC, and even Nokia phones. Because there's a pocketPC port, i wonder if anyone has tried getting the source from the author and porting this to the Smartphone platform?
The source is free for any non-commercial use (GPL), so as long as you arent planning to sell it its free to use. Yeti3D homepage PocketPC Port homepage Quake'ish FPS demo from this page, works on smartphone: DEMO I tried to run the DEMO on my mpx200 and it WORKS! Although it only uses about 2/3 of the screen, I get +/- 20 fps, i can walk around, jump and shoot, and the music and sound works. The graphics quality is comparable to Quake but frame rate is about 4 times as high. See this for yourselves! Note that when you start the .exe, you'll see the credits for about 1 minute before loading is done and you can play. Walk around with the d-pad, shoot with left function key, jump with right function key, enter menu with back-key. Quit by going all the way down the menu and hit the left function key (shoot). |

The original doom music is included in the WAD file, right? I dont know what the possibilites are for extracting such music and playing it... In case of a midi'ish file, isnt it possible to convert and play it? I can imagine its quite some work, and myself i have no idea how to do such thing in C++. So just a nitwit talking here Oh and dont you hate these university books. I just bought two for 70 euro each, just to find out we only use about 10% of the contents :S Oh i almost forgot to say your doom port is awesome! |
