A few nice tones here guys, thanks! Here's a few updates to a couple of posts here. The AT&T Labs Text To Speech direct link is here: http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php And I've attached Coolmagic's CSI (Who are you?) Tone after amplification (2.5dB) without excessive clipping.

HTC says, that this is due to WM6 that puts the Bluetooth in sleeping mode to save energy after 5 minutes. well after thats stement I am defo sticking to WM5...I mean come on, how is WM6 an upgrade when Andre, Conan, I agree that the lack of auto WIRELESS STEREO headset pairing is a major pain in the arse, but as yet, I have not founf a work-around Unfortunatley, while HTC's statement about the 5min BT energy saving "feature" may or may not be true, it is not the reason why our wireless stereo headsets won't auto reconnect. They're telling you a furphy there. A paired, wireless handsfree headset (whether it has the A2DP profile or not) WILL stay paired and connected for as long as it is switched on, AND it will auto reconnect when it's switched back on. It's "just" the wireless stereo headset's (ie. A2DP music headsets) that are currently not giving us the auto-reconnect feature. Tim |

Thanks Menneisyys, your article got me searching again for better sound d7oad's settings improved the sound quality over the default settings, but in my searching I came across hardcore and Sleuth255's testing for WM6 optimum settings for bluetooth A2DP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308752 QUOTE These are applicable to the newer releases of WM6. Finding #1: ADD/CHANGE the following values from the registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings : Name: UseJointStereo Value (DWORD): 1 What this does is enable Joint-Stereo for the SBC codec, which is important and makes the biggest significant change to improve sound quality. (Note: In earlier versions of WM5 and WM6, Joint-Stereo was broken and resulted in a mono-output. This is not the case anymore with the newer WM6 ROMS.) Further note: Sleuth255 found that some of his A2DP headsets could not work with JS turned on. In that case, you have to set the value to 0 to disable JS (resulting in poorer quality sound with more "hissing"). Finding #2: REMOVE the following values from the registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings if they are present: - BitPool - MaxSupportedBitPool These values are used to manually set limits for the BT stack for the A2DP SBC codec. Previously, it was thought that these values should be set between 38 to 86. But if the values are removed, I think that the BT stack automatically chooses the best BitPool values for maximum quality. I've tried removing these values and the sound quality either improved or at least stayed the same. [ SUMMARY ] At this point, you should have only one value in the registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings: UseJointStereo = 1 Your A2DP audio should be very good at this point - almost indistinguishable from a wired headset. However, if you are still unsatisfied with the sound (you may notice some very slight "hissing" or "swishing" sounds on high frequencies of certain songs), you may want to try the optional setting below. [ OPTIONAL ] Finding #3: This is optional, and a matter of preference. ADD the following value to the registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings: Name: SampleRate Value (DWORD): 48000 (decimal) This forces the A2DP stack to send the audio to the headset at 48000Hz instead of the default 44100Hz. For some reason, I find that the 48Khz value makes the "hissing" sounds less obvious. Your findings may vary, as some people may prefer the slightly more forward sound of the original setting. But if you are game, give this a try - one thing for sure is that it definitely changes the sound quality. To reverse the change, just remove the SampleRate value. If you make this 3rd optional change, you should have the following values in the registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings: UseJointStereo = 1 SampleRate = 48000 [ Note - Quick tip on registry editing ] Of course, every registry change needs a soft-reset to take effect. And please take the usual proper care when editing the registry or risk damaging your device. Find that your settings dont "stick" after a reset? Make sure you reset the phone like this: After making changes to the registry, exit your registry editor. Then push the power button of your phone (putting it into standby, with the screen off). Wait for about 10 seconds (the phone will be saving the data to disk during this time), and only after that push the reset button. These settings SIGNIFICANTLY improved the audio quality again. I tried both default and tweaked SampleRates and kept the setting as 48000. There's no hissing or crackling at all with my HBH-DS970 'phones. The audio quality is still not perfect though. It's lacking somewhat in the low-end and the mid-ranges are a little washed-out, but without an equiliser for the HTC Audio Manager I don't know if there's much I can do about that... Thanks to hardcore and Sleuth255 if this helps you too Tim |

Hey all, I've redesigned one of my favourite homescreens for use with my S710 - SmartHome v4 It's a fairly simple screen for display, but it has all the info I need on the homescreen.
ss001.bmp ( 225.05K )
Number of downloads: 858As far as I know there's no fancy DLLs needed to run. Just copy the XML file into your Applications\Home folder. You might have to manually define your background image if you're not using the HTC branded device. There's a also few additional *UNTESTED* features which have been disabled in the XML (commented out), like the Windows Live search bar, Alarm plugin, graphical WiFi status plugin and the SmartMonitor plugin (monitorplugin.dll needed). Feel free to play around to customise as you need. Features: Display CellBroadcast channel name. network dependant Carrier, WiFi Status + Date/Time display VOIP status - may require WM6VOIP.cab from XDADevelopers (google it) Call Progress Display 10 icon MRU programs bar Unread SMS, MMS, Email status Missed calls display (hidden if no missed calls) Display/Change Sound Profile All Day Event Calendar Plugin - hidden if no all day event Upcoming appointments & location plugin. Click here to download the homescreen file
SmartHome_v4.home.xml ( 8.3K )
Number of downloads: 143There's three things I know are issues with this plugin, and I'd love to have some feedback on how to fix them: 1. The VOIP "Internet Status" bar doesn't show as white when selected. I'm sure it's just an XML format tag I've missed somewhere: CODE <!-- VOIP Plugin --> <plugin clsid="{25997777-A9C7-4a44-AEA6-BE5EB0D97B81}" name="voip" height="25"> <format state="selected" fgcolor="#FFFFFF"/> <label fgcolor="#FF9933" halign="center"><text singleline="true"><voip/></text></label> </plugin> 2. Likewise for the "Phone Profile" line - I'd like it to display the profile name in a different colour to the text "Profile: ", but have them both go white when selected. 3. Whenever the CellBroadcast location changes, the phone breaks it's screen-saver. Kind-of an annoying waste of battery. Hit me back with any suggestions Tim. |

Have made the changes, but will have to wait till I get home tonight to confirm audio quality. For the record, the Default Settings are as follows: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\ BitPool DWORD 30 MaxSupportedBitPool DWORD 30 SampleRate UseJointStereo DWORD 1 HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\ Capability DWORD 37 Thanks again in advance d7oad Tim |

I've just received my HTC branded S710 and have attached my Sony HBH-DS970 'phones to the phone. And the music audio sounds like sh!t That and I didn't receive a pouch in the box I can't see any options to turn on/off A2DP on the S710. Any ideas? |

Exactly! It's a change in behaviour that I understand but I used to just tap the unlock button to get the time and date up and then after 60mins it would ask for password. I've always used it to quickly check the time whilst standing at a bus stop or something. Damn annoying that they change stuff like this. Agreed, very annoying. So how does one activate the keypad lock without invoking the phone lock with a password? |

Negative, at least not with WM2003 Smartphone. I set my iMate Smartphone 2 to lock the device after 60mins of inactivity. I could unlock the phone with MENU+# any time up until that 60mins. After this it asked for the password. |

^^ Both of you have nothing on how poor the Australian market is. Samsung AU has only JUST (like two days ago) released the BlackJack in Australia - That is, the original SGH-i607 non-HSDPA, non-WiFi version. All this for AU$899 (550 Euro, GBP375, US$750) outright! It'll be at least another 6 months, if not longer, before they release the Vox in Au. So I bought mine from the US 8-) |

This is all great news Can someone please confirm that any of these ROMs will work with any of the HTC Voyager phones? ie. If i have the Imate Smartphone2 (with Operator ROM v1.10.15.2, Manufacturer ROM v1.11.15.32) will I be able to apply the Orange Swiss ROM (or any others) without frying the phone, AND still be able use the phone in English? QUOTE(J273 @ Jan 13 2005, 09:52) When i install any of these and try and use them (the origional and modified versions) it always pops up on the screen no homescreen layouts can be found .etc any ideas as to what could be causing this,Thanks Im using a C500. 1st, (at least with the screen I hacked) make sure that the SmartHome_v3_bg.bmp file is in the same folder as the .xml file on your phone. after you've copied it, change to another home screen (making sure you've actually applied the HS change), then change back to the SmartHome screen. If that still gives you problems, try setting the Background manually, like this: ![]() http://image28.webshots.com/28/3/98/27/250...27JTmkLL_ph.jpg Also, if you're using Brian or My hacks, make sure that the SmartMon or WMP plug-in is installed. Thanks for that. The page is in german, but the rough translation is that the drivers are beta releases from SyChip, who manufacture the card. They have not been released to the public, nor have SanDisk released their branded ones. The card seems to work well with the beta drivers, and (from what I can translate) did not have a HUGE impact on battery life. If anyone can find and post\host the beta drivers (within an NDA policy), i'm sure there would be a few more sales for this card Now all we need is Niveus Pocket Remote to be coded for the SP, and we'll be laughing! |

Garth, just a minor thing - whilst the app is searching for a partner, the options menu is not available, so you can't exit or change the settings for those 10seconds (or whatever it is) until it's "waiting for discovery" again. No biggie though Tim |
